If it is not working for you (either the z4root itself or the apk is not copied) -

please run z4root, dont press the 'root' button, connect the device to a pc and run "adb logcat", wait until all the log is shown, press on the device the "root" button, and paste here the relevant logcat messages.

one thing... as long as they use linux, there will always be bugs that can be exploited to root your device. They might want to make it a tad bit more difficult, but when you have the machine in hands, you're root.

I so wish i had more time, i'd completely tune this baby to my needs! :)

ps. why doesn't anyone modify the values/options in /etc ? afaik there is no reason not to...
pps. ryanZA: maybe some error checking in the rooting code? ;)

Root access cannot be found

ChewyWade
I just ran the root process from my Evo 2.2 in about 15 mins. very simple as stated by dev. Once it was done it self rebooted and root was a success. I'll post back if any issues.

Thanks to the dev @RyanZA for making this simple process extremely simple and @mic_888 for initially posting the story.

I ran the the root process shortly after reading into it, installed a couple known root required apps ie; shoot-me and overclock they installed nd worked. When I installed and tried to run titanium backup and cryogen nd rom manager I was unable to run them.I keep getting a root access failure message. I also installed busy box via titanium cause it mentioned I might may have an outdated version, no luck there either.

I was also curious if this root came with nand unlock?

works on motorola droid x

I just downloaded and installed on My motorola Droid X 2.2, it hung the first time i tried it and had to pull the battery, everything rebooted fine and i ran it again. this time it took less than 30 seconds it rebooted on its own and when it started up i had so far as i can tell full root functionality.
awesome and easy, keep up the good work.

i noticed that when i select the download unsuccessful notification it says "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone". I have a
D2 that is stock running System Version 2.3.20.A955.Verizon.en.US. Android Version 2.2. Baseband Version BP_C_01.09.07P. Kernal Version 2.6.32.9-g462500f dbretzm1@il93lnxdroid22 #1. Build Number VZW. ERI Version 5. PRL Version 52031. But I quessing that you already know that.

I went as far as downloading it on my computer and putting in the download folder on my SD card and tried running it but no luck. If anyone can help that would be great, thanks.

hello,

works flawlessly on a 2.2 Samsung Galaxy S

I never tried rooting it before because I didn't want to do anything that needs a PC (yeah I'm lazy !)

and on a side note, I installed OCLF just after that, no problem so far

thanks a lot for your nice work !

Froyo is a bit of a pain to root! Well, this fixes that.

    What this does

It is an app you install from the market or by side loading, that has a single button that will root your device.

    How safe is this?

Should be 100% safe - nothing on disk is changed besides the root binaries, so if something goes wrong, simply rebooting the device should fix up any and all issues. Let me know if you find any bugs!

The new temporary root option works on 99% of available Android devices - no list yet of which specific devices are incompatible with the temporary root option - I am still trying to find out.

Here is the list so far of known compatible and incompatible devices for the permanent root option. I haven't actually tested these myself - I only have a Galaxy S device - but this list has been created by reports from users.

    Compatible with PERMANENT root option
