Quick question- don't know if it's a mod-able thing or if it's part of the ROM.
When I hold the PWR and get the options to reboot, shut down, etc., is there a way to have one of the options (maybe a sub-option) be Reboot into RECOVERY?
I have had this on other devices and it's a nice option.

Sure thing! Here! I made this just for you! It has almost all of the same apps, all of the same and more features, and a nearly identical theme! I even made it based on two different GB leaks so you can test which one will work the best for you... with a full and lite version each! That's 4 Gingerbread roms! They even use an official based kernel!

I hope you like them!

It's launcher pro, so yes, you can pull it from the market if the rom you're using doesn't have it.. it's just skinned/themed...

So I just sold my Epic (well, traded it plus some cash for a Nexus S 4G), and it had Phoenix on it.

Noticed something a bit... annoying. After entering the new MSID and phone #, the phone rebooted and tried to start the activation wizard. Which promptly force closed.

I tried formatting/reflashing, same thing. I had to reflash on top of that to get it past the activation wizard, and force a manual profile update to get it working properly.

Aside from that, I've loved Phoenix. Now it's off to root and hack away at my Nexus S :p

ThunderHawk 3.0 with EI22 is already under construction, with the Volume hack and Hotspot hack updated and built in.

I tried EI22 but had to go back to EC05 bc this Phoenix rom is so nice. Can't wait for the update.

[Edit: Waiting for your EI22 version, that is.]

RandomROM Phoenix Final

The end of EC05 is here. With EI22 comes the uphill climb of Epic development once again. This means that the journey of RandomROM Phoenix ends here. I will be uploading one final version with some minor tweaks, updater-script, build.prop, and archive updates. Mostly it will just be some perfectionist adjustments before I declare it finished. From this point on, I will be focusing my attention on Gingerbread roms for the Epic 4G. As many of you know, EI22 may still not be the final official Gingerbread (recall DK28, EB13, EC05?). As such, it is just too much effort to focus on so many versions of Gingerbread while dragging Froyo along with it.

For those of you still hesitant towards climbing out of your comfy, cozy Froyo cave, let me assure you that Gingerbread is greatly improved over EC05. It comes with battery improvements, interface enhancements, smoother performance, and just some great changes overall. The only drawbacks up until this point have been random reboots and Google Framework FCs which thus far seem to be solved with our new source-code. With that, it can only improve from here, leaving Froyo to go the way of Eclair.

It's a little bit sad, as RandomROM started on Froyo with the original RandomROM, then Final, then Plus, then Phoenix, and then Phoenix 2 and the original AIO mod. But this time, Final is Final.

If EI22 proves to be as stable as we all hope it to be, then ThunderHawk 3 will be the foreseeable future of RandomROM on the Epic 4G, leaving behind EG22 and EH17 versions. Pushing 8 rom .zips for one phone to the internet was a huge undertaking on my part to provide all current possibilities, and it was fun, but it's time to refocus.

As far as Serenicity, the EC05 version of that will likely also be discontinued as a Gingerbread version is solely pursued in its stead.

I will continue to support my Froyo creations as best I can for dedicated downloaders.

Thank you for your patronage and please enjoy ThunderHawk. :D

Happy Veteran's Day!

One more time!

It turns out I couldn't help myself. As Gingerbread grows in support on our phone (officially and unofficially), Froyo becomes the distant past much like Eclair did. However, many users seemingly still hold on to the old ways, and with good reason. Functionality wise, there is little available on Gingerbread that is not also available on Froyo.

As such, my wife and mother-in-law are distrustful of the new system. I also admit that on occasion I as well revert to Froyo out of stability. So it is for these reasons, that I will shortly present Phoenix II. If you're wondering "Why the roman numeral?", it's because there will be no more revisions. That's it. It's done.

So what am I giving you? I'll be honest, not a heck of a lot . A revamped installer script. Several app updates. I've finally tweaked the phone app so that the contacts button isn't obnoxiously different, although it's not perfect, but I'm not a full-time themer. I've brought the pull-down menu of ThunderHawk to Phoenix to make the experiences feel truly similar, as well as a new custom hotspot icon and adjustments to the Settings app. I also present a Sprint Carrier patch for those of you that need it for Sprint NFL or whatever.

That's mainly it, the main goal of this was to bring Phoenix more in line with ThunderHawk and polish it one last time.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the latest and greatest Swype!

Came back to Phoenix after a week with Thunderhawk. Random reboots and phone freeze started to get annoying. I know those issues are common in all gingerbread roms.

Updated to Phoenix II. Its working flawless. Great job once again.

The color combination of the way this rom is themed is probably one of the best I've seen. With all the problems gingerbread is having ill probably go back to this. Thanks for updating randomking.

    FROYO ROM

    2.2.1 EC05 "Phoenix" II [Journaled]
From the ashes of RandomROM Plus, Phoenix rises.

    EC05 AIO Volume/Hotspot/Lockscreen
The first rom to combine ALL of these great mods!

    Updated 11/29/2011
Updates, Important Notices, and General Information Posted Here!
I'd like to extend a special thank you to anyone who has donated!

I maintain RandomROM as a distribution across multiple forums. As such, the bulk of the information, details, etc. is maintained on my site. Rest assured, the links below will take you to aforementioned site where you will find all of the information you require regularly updated on how to use this rom. No subscription required. Always free (donations appreciated, never required). All of my roms, mods, themes, guides, etc. can be found on this easy to navigate site as well as my blog for upcoming updates. As always, I will still answer questions here.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, divorce, bankruptcy, acne, etc. Please do some research if you are a first time flasher BEFORE flashing this rom. YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at me if something goes wrong with your device, I will laugh. By downloading, you agree to have read all pertinent information provided and to accept any and all responsibility subsequently.

Home Of The AIO Mod For EC05.
I have updated and merged necrosan's wifi tether mod and mkasick's volume rocker mod together, as they change the same framework.jar. This means that Sprint Hotspot will work freely without an additional Wifi Tether app, and that your volume rocker can now seamlessly transition from silent, to vibrate, to loud. Included in this conglomeration are also maddoggin's lockscreen mod. This will currently remain known as the AIO mod, and version 1 is the latest. It is included in the Phoenix Blue EC05 theme.

To any rom/theme developers: Feel free to utilize this mod but be sure to reference myself and all aforementioned developers involved. It took a lot of time and effort to make these great features play nicely and it's important to keep the original creators in the loop.

    Why Should You Use RandomROM?

    Alternate names considered: BatteryROM, BurningROM
This rom is a personal hobby of mine to maintain the greatest battery life that I can. I've scoured the forums searching for the newest and greatest tweaks, mods, etc. to include, and then carefully tested them all for battery performance. I've also made additional changes and additions all my own. As such, this rom has compiled the excellent work of many great developers into my own ideas and configurations. Contained within are many useful apps pre-installed as well as an effort to replicate my exact setup which has yielded me 1-2% battery loss per hour maximum when idle!

All included apps have been RandomKing-Approved to conform with the best battery usage. I'm always on the lookout for more tweaks, possible thematic changes, etc., however this version is the last major revision last based on EC05. There should be no issues, but should I happen to find one, I may simply release a patch or quietly switch out the upload version.

Many of you have complained that others achieve much better battery life. The goal of RandomRom is to provide MY setup that's provided me with great battery life. Further details possibly important details will be made available in post 2. Any other information can be found on my site along side the download links.

    Quick Updates, Notices, Fixes, Etc!

You've got questions, here's some answers!

When should I use the AIO mod?
    • If you're on a rom that doesn't have it, or you flashed an EG22 theme that doesn't include it.
How do I update my SuperUser Binary?

    • Check out this link and Rodderick will save the day.
      Or remove the update.
How do I use my own ringtone, alarm, and notification mp3s?
    1. Create a folder on your SD card called "media".
    2. Inside of that create "audio".
    3. Inside of that create:
      • "ringtones" for ringtones.
      • "alarms" for alarms.
      • "notifications" for notifications.

    Taking Time Off

I will no longer be supporting this thread daily. This includes PM's. I believe I have currently reached Epic Nirvana, and until Gingerbread is official and more fully developed, I'm staying right where I am. As such, my two rom versions will be remaining final. I have recently been married, and am working to focus more time on my new wife and job.

As a reiteration, if your phone is freezing and/or discharging it's battery over night with either rom version, try flashing VisionKernel 1.1.

I'll be in from time to time to make sure the thread stays on track. Almost all answers you may need should be provided in the first 2 posts.

    -RandomKing

P.S. Almost 2000 downloads between the three rom selections and three themes. Thanks Everyone!

Can an update be made to make this compatible with the ACS Updater app? It seems like this is related to the script that calls the recovery is pointing to the stock one rather than the CWM recovery.

    http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=15873557&postcount=66

I have not tested this myself, although I have submitted the Plus version w/Visionkernel to the ACS Updater. The TV Shows app has been removed, as it no longer works (it's server has changed). ACS Updater has been included. And the volume rocker patch has been included. This updated version is not currently available through any other means atm.

Apparently, the older kernels like Genocide 1.0 and Vision 1.1 do not have the proper "reboot to recovery" option included in them and will default to the blue recovery when you use the ACS Updater. Aside from trying a newer kernel, here's a current solution:

Hit reboot and then perform the 3 finger grip immediately, you'll see some scrolling script go by, and then the update should take over.
