I don't see why everyone is obsessed with trying ART. Dalvik is running perfectly. I've tried it on my gnex, nexus 7 and 10 and haven't noticed a difference.

Feels faster to me - might be my imagination, but I don't think so, and I don't think Google would be pursuing it just for grins without the expectation of an improvement over Dalvik. Also - I'm seeing 751mb memory (between ART and mpokang kernel). What are you seeing with Dalvik running?

It's not an obsession -- it just feels faster, seems like a step closer to the direction that Google is taking Android, and it's appealing to see the 2 year old GNex get there.

The reason Google is doing Art is because Oracle tried to sue the **** out of them over davlik.

no Backup Account showing in the Settings-> Backup & reset menu

same in my RastaKat Grouper build.

apparently it's due to a Google code flub. for more details, here's SlimRom's revert to fix the issue

https://github.com/SlimRoms/frameworks_base/commit/2794d5d4447c4405c0dbc1e31c904f41c9a78817

Yes I know about that upstream change, was trying to find a different workaround. Reason why when r1.2 was dropped I didn't push the build the very first day.
But thanks yes I'll revert that change and give up my stubbornness

100 percent reason why they built ART was because of Oracle. They starting making it before the trial was decided. It is their backup plan and since they built it they are moving forward with it

Dalvik is being replaced because it's time. It's old and not worth building on top of. They thought they could build a better runtime from scratch, and I think they obviously did.

Strange one. Hoping someone here has some ideas about this.

I've been using Rastakat with PA GApps and its been great until last night. I started getting the GApps FC's that are being reported in various KitKat threads. So...I tried wiping the N10 again, including data, flashed latest Rastakat again along with 11/26 GApps and SuperSU, rebooted and used TiBu to restore user apps only.

No more GApps FC's, but I also don't have the AOSP camera or gallery. Any ideas about this?

Yeah - same thing happened to me with the PA Gapps, installing the full package or the separate Photosphere/Gallery doesn't install anything. I confirmed the apks are in /system/app, but they won't run. Nothing shows up in App Drawer, and other apps don't recognize them being installed either.

The root cause, reading other posts in the latest PA Gapps thread, seems to be switching b/w Art and Davlik, which I was doing.

The fix for me was to install Banks Gapps Photosphere/Gallery package over top of the PA full Gapps package.

I just re flashed Rastakat and this time used the modular PA GApps. The camera and gallery are left intact... They're back. Must be the install script in the giant full GApps trying to replace regular camera with photosphere. I'm OK for now. Thanks. Must read up some more.

Edit: modular GApps definitely fixed it. I've used chrome, email, tapatalk, calendar, maps, etc and not a single fc since installing a little over an hour ago. I'm guessing the install script in the big / full PA GApps gets confused if it doesn't find the regular camera and gallery as it expects (or something along those lines). Modular full works fine.

It's a known issue with the N10 Photosphere camera. It appears that there are other non-obvious N10 files that are needed for it to work. TKruzze knows about it and I've been trying test zips for him (unsuccessfully)

Modular Full keeps the AOSP camera & gallery.

Banks' Photosphere zip is using the N5 files which work, but aren't exactly the same as the N10 Factory Image camera & gallery.

It's mentioned in the Changelog, but that's down in the 2nd post

•Photosphere camera and Google Gallery binaries updated to KRT16S factory images (where applicable)
Camera still broken on Manta with Full Complete GApps or Photosphere Addon (still seeking solution)

Thanks. I'm using the PA modular full gapps right now, and I have far fewer FC's, but they're not gone altogether. There seems to be a connect to Chrome, but I get them also some other apps like tapatalk, and some when no apps are obviously open. Frustrating! This so close to being 100%, with ROMs ready for heavy customization -- but these nagging issues still linger. Fingers crossed for a solution soon.
