Also what Is the headphone output level for version i? +1 for higher max speaker output and headphone output. To me the louder option is better because if I need it I can use it or else use less volume (well... I don't want my speakers to blow)

+5011

I've been wondering if it's possible to bump up the output volume levels. After using AudioBoost, I know it's possible, but maybe with a custom kernel it's possible to do it without having it put such a strain on things. With AudioBoost it's quite noticeable, especially if you have a live wallpaper running.

I'm currently using K12K, but I agree that battery life seemed to be better with K12I - I retained the zip file just in case I want to switch back.

I am running Phoenix 2.5; Modem JK4
Cool thanks. Do you feel that this Speed kernel is better than the Firebird kernel that came with Phoenix?

There's no difference in the code between I, J and K that could affect the battery. So I think it's just the usual case of the battery meter being inaccurate after flashing.

It's best to use it for a few days to see if there's really any difference in battery life.
Ahh, thanks for the info. Ive used the Firebird kernel now for 4 days, hoping that it would straighten out for me, but its still killing my battery awfully fast. I think Ill try K and see what happens. Thanks.

OK
Never seen too much of a change in battery life between versions. Just put on "J" 500hz version the other day so heres my current.. 16 hours and down to 82% ...you wont see me complain:D.. and this is after the 98% percent full charge bug everyone is talking about in the 2.2.1 roms.

Going to move to K as things did feel a bit weird on the audio in J. Thanks Harcore for keeping it up over here for us captivate people:p

The first thing I notice almost immediately is it's not as fast as Voodoo, however I'm going to test this and report back on the battery life, thanks.

Bluetooth Headset Static

I Have Flashed This Kernel Over Cognition 2.3b8 And Have Tried Every I9000 Modem. I'm Now On JK4 And Still Have Static. I Have A Samsung WEP870. Is There A Fix For This???

Have you tried the TLJL3 modem? Also see if the headset itself has a factory reset function, and use Titanium Backup or a similar program to wipe the user data from "Bluetooth Pairings," then reconnect it.

You need to ref lash to stock and install a i9000 rom like perception. You cant use a captivate rom with an i9000 modem.

This simply isn't true. There are several people, myself included, using this kernel with the latest Cognition, a Captivate ROM. I can tell you that the JJ4 Captivate and T959TLJL3 modems both work well with this kernel/ROM combo. I can't speak to bluetooth functionality as I've only used the OEM headset thus far.

Same here I experienced more idle drain on J. So I went back to I.

Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
You should only make a final judgement on battery usage after a few days' use, because the better meter can be very inconsistent.

Anyway version K is significantly faster than any previous version because I stopped using the bfq scheduler.

But is your battery life as a whole better for the sake of saving that 2%? Right now on kernel version my phone has 39% battery life left with 35hrs of moderate usage which means it could easily break the 48hr barrier if I leave it over night lol. So if you're saying setiro's kernel has better overall battery life then that must be a good number :)

r u serious? My battery is only less than 1 day. Which rom are u using?

I looked did not see anyone with this issue.

I install using CWM, install rom menu selection. On the recovery install it fails with a verification issue.
I power off. I restart and it installs just fine on the reboot without intervention?
What am I doing wrong?

BTW great battery life. I have lagfix off and it is fast enough for me.

Not sure if this is old news to anyone, but whenever I update my kernel (be it speedmod or others, but lately all I use is speedmod ;-) I have to go back into the WiFi settings and re-check the box that tells WiFi to goto sleep when the screen shuts off. For some reason, each time I update my kernel this gets reset to "Never" turn off and I have to re-tick it - no big deal, but thought I would mention it for those wanting to stay on the latest kernels (H, I, J, K) and ensure they are getting the best battery life they can after each update. HTH someone.

I am sure this is posted somewhere but hope you don't mind if I re ask. I am using "i" version and it the only Kernel I have Flashed. If I try "k" do I have to reset the 'Tweaks" and should I recalibrate battery and wipe battery stats?

Thanks

I am having a weird problem with the WiFi Sleep settings. I go to Spare Parts app and when I check the Wifi Sleep setting there it shows none of the 3 options checked at all. So I "check" the Android Default option and it Highlights to Green so it on. But if I Power Down the Phone or reboot and go check Sleep Option again nothing is checked and I have to redo. Does anyone else have this Problem? I am using Ported Darky 8.0 ROM on my Captivate and it may be a Darky issue and I will ask at that Forum also.

Thanks

If you're flashing at full charge then no to both questions.

If you don't flash at full charge you might get some unpredictable battery drain but it should even out anyway.

Recalibrating never hurts.

Thanks for reply. I know this a stupid question but does it hurt to Flash or do anything in Recovery with the Phone plugged in and charging?

Thanks

    Updated test: K12Q-T7:

    This version is unbelievably smooth!

Android Logger (logcat) disabled by default.
Kernel debug messages have been disabled.
Fixed the super loud notifications with Voodoo Sound.

    Changes from K12P:

    - Disabled Android Logger (can be re-enabled via Tweaks)
    - Disabled all kernel debug messages (printk) for efficiency
    - Changed boot logo to I897 logo for AT&T Captivate version
    - Changed /cache to ext4nj in recommended ext4 lagfix to fix large Market downloads
    - Optional IPv6 Privacy support in Tweaks
    - Voodoo Sound v2 compatible
    - Fixed loud notification problem with headphones
    - Fixed popping / clicking noise when music and FM radio is stopped / started
    - Better FM Radio sound:
    - - Really removed the high pass filter and DRC from FM Radio (restores full bass)
    - - Turn on 4FS mode for ADC in FM Radio (smoother high frequencies)
    - - Turn on 128x oversampling for ADC and DAC in FM Radio mode
    - Adjusted volume of FM Radio and Media Playback to be similar
    - General sound quality improvements:
    - - Maximized digital mixer output to improve SNR and resolution
    - - 128x oversampling option in Voodoo Sound enabled by default
    - - Explicitly disable DRC and NG during media playback, if +1.5dB mode is NOT selected

For the AT&T Captivate version, ignore changes for FM Radio.
    8
    Reserved for future use.

    Test version K12S-T3:

    - Added 3-pole headset calling support: voice calls go via normal stereo headphones if attached, otherwise they go via the earpiece
    - Fixed mic problem, now the mic works
    - Voodoo app headphone amplifier control also controls headphone output level for headphone voice calls
    - Voodoo Sound v3

Credit goes to xcaliburinhand for some of the source code changes.
Unfortunately xcaliburinhand's patch didn't work out of the box - the mic didn't work. I had to modify the driver further to get the mic to work.

*** Note: The voice call sound doesn't automatically switch between the earpiece and headphones if you plug-in or unplug the headphones while the call is in-progress. You have to toggle the speaker mode to make it switch.

SpeedMod + Voodoo Sound test version!

    K12L-T5:

    Changes from K12K:
    - FM Radio sound quality improvement: removed Dynamic Range Compression
    - Voodoo Sound v1: FM radio bass fix, controllable headphone output via app
    - rear speaker volume +1 for media
    - light sensor polling interval changed to 2s instead of 0.5s
(saves battery, more stable brightness levels)
    - light sensor sensitivity adjusted so that the screen doesn't turn bright so easily
(saves battery and reduces screen burn)
    - adjustments to IO Tweak (super smooth now!)
    - changed battery level polling interval to 60 seconds, from 5 seconds

Note that you need Supercurio's Voodoo app to adjust the headphone level. If u don't install it, the default level is the same level as K12K (+1 from Nexus S, or +3 from SGS).

PS. The FM radio sound is really awesome after those voice filters have been removed!
