HtcDev bootloader unlock for ChaCha

INFO: unlocking the bootloader will NOT give you s-off but you will be able to root your device and install custom roms.

You will not be able to flash hboot or radios and your device won't be network unlocked.

http://htcdev.com/bootloader

Tutorial here written by theq86: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1432199 for people that need help with the process.

Report back if it worked for you guys or if you have any problems.

Use this thread for all your discussions relating to official bootloader unlocking rather than making hundreds of topics for the same info or problems.

That way anybody needing help can come here and ask rather than digging through many pointless posts.

AFTER YOUR UNLOCKED

Once you unlock your bootloader grab yourself clockwork mod from here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=15560528 follow the directions to install.

Read the instructions carefully.

Download the file and place in the root of your SD.

Turn off your phone and remove battery.

Replace battery and hold volume down and power until the bootloader opens.

It will scan for the file you placed on your sd root and ask if you want to update

Say yes by pressing the button it says to confirm.

When finished reboot.

NOTE: Delete the clockwork mod file from your SD root or it will keep trying to flash it when you try getting into the bootloader. Do this by either card reader or with a file explorer on your phone.

TO GET INTO CLOCKWORK MOD (CWM)

Power off your phone and remove battery

Replace battery, hold volume down and power, bootloader will open.

Select recovery.

You should now be in clockwork mod.

TO GAIN ROOT ACCESS

download super user package here: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip and place on your SD

Boot into clockwork mod and choose install zip from SD

Then select the zip location for superuser file you placed on your sd and select it and confirm.

When done click back then reboot system.

You should now be rooted.

To check if you are, open your app drawer (all apps) and you should see a superuser icon.

You also install custom rom's this way (choose zip from SD etc).

Good luck!

For any info on any aspect of your ChaCha be sure to check Alex C's 'everything ChaCha' page:

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=17396419

He's done a great job putting all the information needed in one place.

Whether you need help or info about battery life, s-off or custom roms that should be your first port of call.

PS. please don't make tons of pointless threads without actually searching current ones for an answer or you'll just make your forum a jumbled mess.

The RUU Updater is giving me a "model ID" error (possibly due to me having S-OFF/SuperCID via the XTC-Clip) - gonna try extracting the rom.zip from the RUU and applying it manually from the bootloader.

EDIT:: Manual application by extracting rom.zip and booting into bootloader got it to apply. Us people who are S-OFF via the XTC-Clip might need to do this to get it to apply. YMMV.

Can anyone confirm if this is also valid for the AT&T version of the Cha Cha, the HTC Status?

Unlocking the bootloader will NOT s-off your device.

You will be able to root and flash custom roms.

You won't be able to flash hboot or radios.

Your phone will not be network unlocked.

Your warranty will be voided, for any software related problems at least.

Why is that important to get it S-OFF?
With the bootloader unlocked you can flash custom ROM and have root access.

How can i proceed to update to 1.54 ?

It think that the solution is to use a goldcard when flashing the RUU. You can use this guide: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=970157

hi!! Is there any way to get it S-OFF, other than with the xtc clip ??

    Not right now mate.

But it may be easier to find an exploit now.
