You cant change the actual User Agent by editing the registry any more as MS have locked this down with the settings now stored inside browser.dll in the Windows folder so OEM's can only append to the string. I just found a post on the IE Blogs site that explains why they have made the changes here: http://blogs.msdn.com/iemobile/archive/2006/08/03/Detecting_IE_Mobile.aspx. The blog doesnt mention it but it looks like it may apply to the more recent AKU's of WM5 as well as all WM6.

There is a post in the Hermes - Upgrading forum (dont have the link handy but do a search and you should find it) that explains how to hex edit the browser.dll which i have had some success with as Vodafone Live in Oz is now able to detect me as a Nokia6630 and loads some of the pages although its still not working 100% as i cant get MobileTV to work :(

Never used Xseries so not sure exactly how it works or what settings will work for it. I would first try changing the enties in browser.dll exactly the same as what you used to change in the registry and if that doesnt work try other variations or you may need to research it a bit more. I only found this in the last week or so myself so am still playing around with Vodafone Live as its the only user agent dependant site i have tried to get working.

There is no point going to the site you sent as they don't show you how to get it. If you ring them they ain't going to tell you.

The Dopod 838 is not even supposed to get the x series so it doesn't come in the planet three settings. you have to alter the registery to do it, which is what I did when running wm5. I upgraded to wm6 and and I need the setting to enable it again on my ph. You can't just change the registry to do it. You need to alter the .dll file first then the registry. I need the setting to change the dll too.

This is the easiest way to get X-series on 838pro.

Get Netfront 3.3
install
then under browser options u can change the user agent to DopodD810 and viola.... u have a Dopod D810!!!

that was so much easier than changing DLL files and u can have multiple useragents and switch between them. i have Dopod 838pro, Dopod D810 and the Nokia N73 just for fun!

guys, how can i make a .cab file for my operator's settings ?

what i did is google for wap-provisioningdoc gprs and got this
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa456052.aspx and around that area.

Further searches in the forum got me to look&browse in the other files already made; helped a lot in doing mine! credits to wpbear who lend me a hand!

It should get you to a xml file that can be tranformed into a cab.
A bit of warning: is a lot of trial&error and frustrations - took me about two weeks to make it from scratch. I am not specialist so a bit of luck is needed also. It is best to try on a fresh OS install or after a HR.
Hope it helps.

cheers,
dan

Thanks Dan! :)

I just downloaded WinCE Cab manager and tried to find out what is in the cab files posted in here, almost all of them had a .xml file inside, that started with <wap-provisioningdoc> ...
but there were also many other files inside the cabs. the only "clean" one was shogun's , merely one dll file! no .xml, nothing else.

so, what do i need to include in the cab file? will the .xml file do the job? or maybe i need some special .dll file too?

I think this is possible to...the first step is to find the wright registry entries on our devices and than edit one of the operators CAB file attached in this thread....but the question is which reg files must be included in the CAB to work properly...

Primoz

I have not used any .dll
My file is this

<characteristic type="HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction" translation="filesystem">
<parm name="GPRSAuthenticationMethod" datatype="integer" value="1" />

There is only one registry entry that I needed; took it out just by fishing in the files. You can try editing this file with your data and see the outcome.

How to use it

I am really noob here...

I had upgrade the 838pro to WM6 and my gprs/mms settings are all gone.
Can anyone direct me on how to enter the settings into my phone?
