We can agree to disagee. But I'd bet my tablet that what I hear is sticky adhesive - it's not a clicky sound, it's a sticky one. If you ever used double sided sticky tape, or anything like that, you'd know the sound. Especially if you tried to remove it and reuse it.

My screen is very slightly raised on the left side. Not enough for most people to notice (that don't know the issue is there). Touch screen wise it works fine. Mine doesn't sound like that video at all.

For me it looks and sounds like adhesive issue. First it wasn't that bad. At the beginning when I have pressed screen it stays for a while then pops up. After 2 hours of usage (mostly typing) it became what you see and hear on a video.

So far no word from Google, even after posting that video :\

When you return to the play store do they send you the new device first?

Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

Over the telephone, I was told they would send me a replacement first. I don't believe anything they say though. The people at customer service seem to have no knowledge and just exist so google can claim they have customer service.

The telephone call basically resulted in them saying "we will contact you in a few days." They didn't even bother to say how they would contact me. I had to ask "By email?" and they said "Yes."

Hopefully I'm wrong but this is what I think will happen if you need to send your Nexus in for replacement:

1. Google sends you a prepaid postage slip via email 24-48 hours after requesting an RMA.
2. Google instructs you in the email to print out the postage slip and place the Nexus in the box which UPS shipped it to you in. Apply the new label and drop off at UPS.
3. Upon arrival at Google, they will examine the Nexus 7 and determine if you are qualified for warranty service.
4. 3-4 weeks later you will receive your new (might be refurbished if they actually have to repair them) Nexus 7.

Here is my ordeal!

Bought Nexus 7 16GB from Canada Computers -- Glass separation (Returned)
Bought Nexus 7 16GB from Future Shop -- Glass Seperation (Returned)
Bought Nexus 7 16GB from another Future Shop -- Glass Separation

Keeping the Nexus 7 I have for now. Future Shop offers 14 day return policy, so I'll see if my 16GB from Play Store ships before then if so I'll return the one from Future Shop.

FML!!

I'm swapping mine for one staples is bringing to my house tomorrow. When mine arrived yesterday, it was hot. The ones in staples may have been shipped in better conditions...we'll see.

Also, my shipping conditions were poor. The nexus 7 came bundled in a much larger box than it was and lacked packing foam/cushioning that you see with newegg and Amazon shipments

This is exactly what I'm talking about re: exchanging them at this point. It's a waste of time. I'd love a Nexus 7 but have held off so far because I'm afraid of buying anything Asus after my experiences with the Prime. If I did end up getting one and had this issue, and if it didn't cause any "real" problems (i.e., touch sensitivity), I'd keep the device, monitor it to see if it got worse, and exchange it months down the line if it got worse and if there were reports that Asus fixed the issue (unlikely - they're a garbage company).

Anyone get through to customer service lately? I'm curious as to the on-hold times. Yesterday I got through in 5-minutes.

Read - potential fix for glass separation!

Hey guys, this was posted by "Emily Chu" on NeoGAF as a potential fix for Nexus 7 glass separation problems, please read and check it out, it seems like a simple fix! I'm at work right now so I cannot try this myself, but if any brave soul is willing to do it, it could potentially fix our problems. I attached her images below:

I was getting downright depressed, the left side of my 7's screen was becoming very loose and creeky from the silver lining.

Was going to exhanged it at my gamestop they told me they only had enough for preorders
I visited Ifixit and saw that there were some screws inside where the loose side of the screen was. could that be the problem ?

they had this 2.99$ opener thingy but I was like hmm **** that just carefully gentlely nudged the backside with my fingernails and lo and behold....
tighten up the screws a bit all around NO MORE CREEKY ****TY LOOSE SCREEN ON THE LEFT SIDE!!!! tight as a button
wtf asus and google and china.......

OMG.... back cover was just a shell..... zero internals
I also liked how there was no "this may void your warranty" **** stickers that connected the two shells together....
now if there was a way to hack a mirco sd card slot and rear camera in there.... hmm...... the plot thickens.....
hell there even seems to be a slot for a rear camera for **** sakes.... .

good as new and right as rain : D

oh and I consider the battery user replaceable now :p

customer service sucks

I have been trying all morning. On hold for 30-50 mins and sometimes even an hour.. Didn't get to speak to any specialist who seems to be speaking to all other customers except me...

Frustrating, I was on hold for 30 minutes before I gave up. I have more important things to do today. I regret preordering from the Play Store now, as it will be a ***** to return. Plus I doubt they can keep up with the demand of preorders and those asking for an exchange. At this point all I want to do is return my N7, then maybe pick one up locally a month from now.

Well I just posted a tip to Engadget about the poor QC done by Google and Asus, and how their support is horrible in helping us RMA/return our devices. I asked them to dig into it some and put some publicity on the matter. Hopefully they do, then Google will have to save face and give us proper support.

Edit: As an owner of the OG Droid, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 you could say I am a big fan of Google... but their customer support is horrible and something needs to be done about it!

Units from UK only

My N7 is on its way (finally), I am based on UK and I would like to know if users from UK are experiencing problems like the ones reported from USA and Canada. Good luck to all affected by manufacturing problems.... and waiting for my N7.
Thanks

Just got off the phone with gamestop, at first the manager tried to send me to Google for repair, then told me I would have to wait till September to get a new one. I may be calling gamestop corporate to see what their opinion of all this is. Considering cutting my losses and selling this cheap junk, I don't even need a tablet bad enough to deal with all this. Glad I didn't pay full price for this thing.

He guy at my GameStop told me to hold mine until there we shipment came in.

Unfortunately, this is EXACTLY what I expected with this device. I own the Prime and Asus is simply terrible when it comes to designing and supporting their tablets. TERRIBLE. Part of me is mad at Google for choosing crappy Asus for the Nexus 7, however I'd bet almost anything that Asus was the only company that was able to meet Google's $200 price point (it's not that hard to do when you use crappy parts and have zero quality control).

Just took the cover off mine and tightened the screens around the edges and it fixed the screen separation issues most the the screens were a little loose on the left side so it looks like this does fix it. The easiest place to start taking the cover off for me was starting at the top then going around the side without the buttons.

After the fix, it is still slightly raised, but much less squishy. I really don't think doing an RMA is worth it.

Was it like this right out of the box? Is it possible you installed a crappy app that is running in the background? I'd do a full factory reset first before returning it.

I have a theory too, nothing in life is perfect, or pristine. Even the hottest super model gets a pimple on her ass from time to time, and I wouldn't ship her off just because of a blemish. No company makes a perfect product, and people, due to an irrational OCD with electronics want it 100% perfect, and as long as people are assembling these products, there will be imperfections. The sad part is, the vast majority of the things people return electronics for do not impact the use of the product, and are barely visable to the naked eye. We love to put everything under a microscope, though. Gotta have something to freak out about, I suppose.

Soooooo everyone should just be happy with their defective N7's because a product working 100% the way it is supposed to is too much to ask for?
I pre-ordered mine from the Play Store on the 28th with the case. I have received no word or email or nothing yet on when/if mine is being shipped. Not a peep. Though it does bring a tiny sparkle to my eye to see all the people that bashed Google just because Gamestop was giving them out so early, only for so many of the GameStop ones to have issues thus far.

I hope mine is flawless. If it has lightbleed issues, Ill return it depending on how severe. If it has flickering issues, those wont bother me unless it is severe and happening with just about every page refresh etc. If mine has a little separation from the back of the device, I'll first try to push it back in place, if that doesn't work, I will throw my cover on there and see if that helps with the issue. If not and the squeaking becomes a nuissance from just normal use rather than being a very very occasional thing, I'd probably return it.

For me it all depends on the severity of the issue I may encounter if it is worth the trouble of having it replaced.
But my original point: It is not unreasonable for every single person that ordered a Nexus 7 to have a completely defect-free device.
So your "not everyone or everything is perfect!" argument is just flawed and invalid.

My screen doesn't lift but I'm noticing a little creaking on the left side. It only happens really when I squeeze the tablet which I normally wouldn't do. Am I being picky thinking about returning it or should I be happy my screen is level and just live with it?

Take my advice. If everything else is working properly, keep it. It's not worth nitpicking over something like this and then getting another unit with worse problems. You'll regret it.

Excellent device but mine isn't flush on the right side of the screen. (Portrait)
After a few hours of use it's starting to pop if you press midway on the bezel.

The problem seemed to be getting worse today but after hearing it's just a clip (not glue) - I resorted to force.
I needed to put quite a bit of pressure (more than seems safe) to do it, but it has properly clicked back into place now.
Smooth the side back into place then pinch it firmly with your thumb and forefinger in the middle of your 'rise'.
(turn your screen off if you're squeamish - you will hear a loud click when it goes back in)

    DEFINITELY FIXED :good:

WARNING: THIS CAN BREAK YOUR SCREEN

For clarity, I didn't have any dents in the bezel. Try to spread any pressure on the screen side. Pinch the bezel together, not the lcd panel.
Your problem might be different to mine, so try this at your own risk.

all those sold by the play store were recalled from their shipping hubs due to ASUS's defects. Hence the delay. When we receive our devices, they should be defect free.

Please stop making things up. People might start believing it.

They may have had a flaky bunch initially, but my personal theory is that these defects are occurring because it's been so hot this summer (at least in the us). Just hear me out out on this one: they put your pristine N7 in the back of xyz shipping truck, which then promptly heats up to over 100 degrees in the summer sun. At that temp, the metal starts expanding, the glue softens, you get a timely bump in the road, and BAM you have a damaged device. That seems plausible, at least to me. Another thing to worry about, as my N7 is coming fro. CALIFORNIA into the hot south.
