Quick question if you have a backup of your stock rom cant you go back to that recovery and then use ez unlock to lock your bootloader?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. You have a nandroid of your stock ROM and you want to know if EZ Unlock can unlock or re-lock the bootloader? You have to have your phone be rooted to use EZ-Unlock so if you're nandroid is 100% stock(without root) then you can't do that.

Well its a backup with root but if i restore to that then lock the bootloader wouldn't that remove root?

Updated/corrected the OP. It seems flashing the regular stock image via Odin doesn't re-lock the bootloader. You do have to do it manually.

GREAT.... I just returned a refurb S3 to verizon cause I read that the odin package relocks the bootloader and now I don't know what they are going to say....? I followed the guide to a T but I did not relock using the playstore app cause I thought the odin method re-locked it.... :(

How will they be able to tell if it's unlocked cause I never had any indication on my boot up screen showing that it was unlocked like some have...? I just went into stock recovery as explained and reset settings and rebooted... I am def paranoid now... Verizon can def be dicks about it and say they are going to charge me for the phone... Hopefully I get lucky...

If it was a refurb just play stupid and say the owner before must have done it. Act like you have no idea what a boot loader is.

The way to tell without examining the boot image is just the first Samsung splash screen goes by in a split second instead of two or three seconds. That's how I figured it out cuz I went to return mine yesterday and noticed that.

If its unlocked it goes quick and if its locked it take a few seconds, right?

Well that is weird cause I am in the process of returning my 3rd F'in S3 because their refurbs are JUNK and the one I returned a few days ago was not re-locked and the one I am about to return is fully re-locked using the "updated" updated method.... :) But the Samsung splash scteen still only stays on for a couple seconds and I KNOW I relocked it before flashing the images through Odin...? Weird... Hope it all works out! :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed: Thanks for the quick response!

I definitely would like to know how I can "examine" the boot image myself just to be on the safe side...?

Correct.

@shojus: When it is unlocked it literally just flashes on and off the screen before going to the boot animation. When locked you can see it for a couple/three or so seconds before the boot animation.

So what does the custom mean then? I've seen people saying they were stock getting this

I haven't gotten a solid answer one way or another. I had thought the custom came from flashing a custom recovery but others have said they got it when running stock. Then again some peoples definition of stock is different. You can be stock rooted with a custom recovery but still call yourself stock in the ROM sense.

That's what I am stock rooted with cwm and stock rom and I have the custom. On my other s3 I would get the custom then after a few reboots it wouldn't be there and then sometimes it would pop up again. It was weird

my device had the custom unlock screen bone stock, no mods. thats how i know section 6 of my guide locks bootloader because the custom unlock screen comes back, which actually means the bl is locked.

It doesn't lock it. The tell tale sign is the fact that the Samsung splash screen goes by in a split second before going to the 'Samsung galaxy Siii' screen. I did it myself following this exact guide and it didn't work until I re locked the boot loader

A lot of people have been starting new threads asking how to reset their phone to stock in order to return it to Verizon with all their modifications undetected. It's really simple and easy to do.

This is to remove any ROM you've installed, un-root and re-lock your bootloader. I'll also post a link to reset your flash counter if you've tripped it.

Basically I'm just going to post a few links to guides that are already here.

    -First is to backup:

Backup literally everything on your phone and external sd card just to be safe. Just imagine that if you lost your phone what you would've wanted backed up. (I'm not saying you're going to mess up your phone, just that the internal sd card will be wiped clean. Pics, settings, videos, etc... all wiped off the internal card. Backup up your ext is just to have your bases 100% covered, none of this process actually uses your ext card. You can just remove it if you'd like also.

    -Second, Check your Flash counter:

More than likely unless you've been flashing custom stuff through Odin you haven't tripped it. In otherwords if you haven't used Odin or just rooted your phone using Odin and then flashed everything else in CWM or TWRP, you haven't tripped it.

To check your flash counter you need to enter download mode - 'Vol down+Home button+Power button'

You will need to be in download mode for the next step anyways, so just doublecheck the counter first.

If you have tripped it, use this app from the play store Triangle Away

-Third is to flash the stock rooted image via Odin:(This image version will re-lock your bootloader and un root you)
Go to section #5 of this Guide and follow the instructions. Use the UN rooted official version and Just to clarify, there is really only ONE option to choose if you plan on returning your phone to Verizon.(Official VRALG1 4.0.4)

(Shortcut to the file if you are familiar and already have Odin, Here)

-Lastly, perform a wipe via recovery just for safety's sake:
Hold 'Volume up+Home button+Power' from your phone being power off. And do this BEFORE you boot up the stock version otherwise you could get stuck in a bootloop and have to do a battery pull.

It's that simple and this will leave your phone in an "out of the box" state therefor safe to return to Verizon without them catching on.

so can I flash backwards to 4.1.1 ? Things are different without rsd

You can flash to any stock image (doesn't matter what version) using odin.

Yes, you should be able to. What's "rsd"?

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

I assume hes talking about rsd lite, which is kind of like odin to flash images to phones.

It does? I'll remove the re locking part then.

yes because the stock odin package has the secure aboot.img. the relock function on the ez unlock app is pointless. the only time the bootloader should be locked is when flashing back to stock.
