It should work. Do a cwm backup, then test the mod and if it doesn't work, you can restore your backup.;)

Hi Flix123, please camera.apk with 16:9 photos!!! Today is standard. Please. 4:3 picture format on 16:9 plasma TV or LCD PC is ugly. Please ..... ! Also 2 year old Nokia N8 have picture 16:9. I thing no problem in pixel. 6Mpixel is good for 16:9 mod.

Oh no... Please not again. 16:9 formats only, if additional resolutions can be added. Don't mess up the stock resolutions! I hate that!

If someone wants 16:9, edit the photos with any photo editing software.

Yep! I think so, too.

My mod isn't a heavy mod, it's stock camera without all the bad things of the stock cam. I don't want to change the resolutions. This mod should stay stable.

For me, the mod is final.:)

I won't do this, sorry. I don't need it and think it's better to activate it manually.

Like I said before, my mod seems final!:)

Hi,

I would like to know whether it is better to record 720p at higher bitrates or 1080p at around the same 720p birates? For example, What benefit 720p@11mbps gives that 1080p@13mbps cannot provide?

Is it true that recording at higher resolution and/or bitrates translates into more battery drain?

Thanks.

Recording @ 720p @ 11 mbit is better than recording @1080 @ 14 mbit because off the bitrate needed at the 2 resolutions for best picture/video quality.

I ALWAYS record at 720p because that give me fluent video and very good picture.

For example record a rollercoaster video with 720p result in better picture quality because the bitrate contra resolution needs to be high enough because of the many movements during recording.

1080p i use (sometimes) to record "non action" video's and therefore the bitrate does not need to be high and does not produce macro/compression blocks in video.

Thanks for the input!

Another question though...

What kind of video recording conditions do I need to use Normal or Fine or Super Fine settings?

Of course I would prefer lowest filesize output at the end of the day, but I also do not want to sacrifice too much quality, so knowing when to switch between quality settings for every specific recording will save me overall sdcard space (eg. recording a person sitting down giving a talk using 1080p@Superfine doesn't make sense right?, I can just use 1080p@Normal and won't see much difference, is this theory correct?).

I have not yet tested alot of video recording, just because I don't use it that often. But to have the knowledge when it counts is a good thing for me.

@Flix123
Is there a way to make the front camera picture quality abit better? The quality is not good enough for casual self portrait pictures.

Thanks. :)

Record an conversation at lower bitrate is okay as long as there's not much movement.

Its like finding a balance between video quality and space on sdcard.

For me 720p @ 14mbit is perfect during daytrips with wife and kids.

I would not sacrifice quality because some moments in life is a "one time recording" and its worth buying a big sdcard for that ;)

For practice and results record videos and view them on your laptop/computer.

My laptop has a fullhd resolution 1920x1080 screen and quality is good to judge on hdready (720p) or fullhd screen (1080p) screen (judge quality on your optimus is not :D)

Happy recording ;)

Is it a bad thing to make this camera app remembers its last settings?

I know this feature has been added for previous version (prior v20q) by other developers (forgot who...). It may make some users happy like those who wants tag locations always on or flash always off instead of having to change them everytime. :)

This is my first camera mod and I want to share it with you.

First of all, big thanks to somemadcaaant who helped me very friendly!

The mod is based on V20s (the old one on V20q), very fast and stable! It works on V20s, V20q, maybe on V20l,r,h,i and o too, you've to try for yourself.

I made following changes (in both mods):

    - disable shutter sounds when recording a video

    - increased sound quality to 96kB/s

    - increased audio sampling rate to 44.1kHz

    - .mp4 video recording instead of .3gp

    Quality steps:

    1080p:
Set FPS from 24 to 30
    1080p Superfine from 9 to 17mbps
    1080p Fine from 7 to 13mbps
    1080p Normal from 5 to 8mbps

    720p:
    720p Superfine from 4 to 15mbps
    720p Fine from 3 to 11mbps
    720p Normal from 2 to 5mbps

The rest is stock V20q, so the camera is very fast and stable!

There's an additional "stock" Mod with these quality steps:

    1080p:
Set FPS from 24 to 30
    1080p Superfine: 9mbps
    1080p Fine: 7mbps
    1080p Normal: 5mbps

    720p:
    720p Superfine: 4mbps
    720p Fine: 3mbps
    720p Normal: 2mbps

    ToDo:

    - maybe heavy-tweaked version with upto 40mbps if the hardware allows this
    - disabling camera not starting on low battery charge (can someone help me with that?)

Maniacdave's mod is based on V20l, so it's slower and the picture quality isn't as good as in this mod (because of V20l base, too).

The quality steps are not the same, you can compare it by yourself.

Btw: I used maniacdave's mod for a long time. I made this mod as a successor of maniacdave's mod.;)
