Alright folks,

I got small news that ill update tomorrow with. I'm out of town and ill be back in the AM.

I've had a some time to mess around with this. So I don't think the root will come with the update.zip file. I have been unsuccessful with getting the tablet to run my modified update.zip file. Im guessing that honeycomb has a special digital signature but im no expert lol. So the root is going to have to come else where. I'm about 95% sure that I have a working su file but the task comes to copying it /system/bin and changing the permissions.

Also, when acer releases an update; it will shed some light on the image. If anyone has any ideas shoot me a PM because 2 brains are better then my one.

Ok first of all, the a500 def needs a dedicated forum. I think with the requests in this thread: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=998123 and the fact that the tablet is just coming out is good reason enough......

Ok, so I got mine yesterday and I just started tinkering with it today. It appears there is some type of bootloader to say the least. I don't think rooting will be difficult at all.

If you press the Volume up and Power button, the tablet apperas to look for a file called you guess it, update.zip! It then says "rebooting recovery image"

So I know this is not much progress, but im going to be working on making a root method...

z4 is for froyo. I think the key lies in the recovery image. I've been supper busy with the wife, I'm hoping I can sit down this weekend and mess with the image and file structure.

tried power/up volumn - nothing

Hi,

I have had this for a week, we got them early in Australia, and happy with it, but would like to get root access so that I can apply some of the apps that require it.

I tried the power on/volumn up button on start and it only loaded as normal, so maybe they have something even more sinister here in Australia verison!

Hope you find the way in.

Also, this does need its own forum as it is a great little device and will have lots of action in the near future.

The version I bought in Melbourne boots into recovery okay.

Acer A500 tablet USB

I hope this question has gone to the right place. This is my first ever post.

I'm in the UK and I bought an Acer A500 yesterday and it is obviously not rooted. I tried the Vol up + power on and it does go through a boot sequence looking for an update.zip.

My main question is - has anybody had any sucess with plugging in a USB stick and being able to see it?

Also any ideas on how to access the plug-in SD card. I used EStrongs and Astro file managers to see it and it appears as though the the internal memory is referred to as SD card. I can't see the plug-in SD card although the machine knows it is there.

For the zoom hack the first step was to get to bootloader. On A500 when you do

adb reboot bootloader

tablet reboots without indication of "support for fastboot"

Power Vol+ takes you to SDCARD based (update.zip) process.

Format the External HD FAT32, but it has Size limitation, I use Swissknife to format it FAT32

Received my A500

Good Morning!

I just received my A500 (my 5th tab in just over a month, ask or don't hehe), and I love it.

I'm a senior linux sysadmin, and have been coming up to speed on android at a fast pace.

Put me to work! I want this thing rooted.

My mac is fully decked out with (most) of the development tools and sdks (Including the Tegra nkd, etc) (planning to develop a killer app.

I know such enthusiasm, anyways let me know what I can do to make this happen, system dumps etc.

SIM slot? Here in Europe the A500 comes without network, the A501 is the 3G version, are you sure the US A500 has the 3G module?
