Frankly, you shouldn't root until you feel comfortable with it. There are numerous methods, read through the Captivate Android Development section, the stickies at the top in particular, understand what you are doing and go for it. It's a bit scary, but trust me, if an old lady like me can do it, you can do it.I'm a relatively new captivate owner. I did a manual update to put froyo on phone. I'm guessing I have the drivers I need to root, because my laptop recognizes my phone and I transfer files back and forth. Would someone walk me through the one click root method? M dumb it down a little. Please help, would like to root, but don't know a lot about it and want to do it right
Great thread. I've managed to root my brand new captivate using SuperOneClick and use Titanium backup but the How to guide fails at that point when it comes to Clockwork.
I'm sure the info is all here in this forum somewhere. I will eventually find it!
Put in an AT&T SIM; the Captivate does not come with the T-Mobile US 3G bands.I've rooted my phone and unlocked it to allow my t-mobile service with the phone. I'm receiving service via EDGE and would like to know what to do to get my 3g speed back? Please help me and I apologize for being such a noob!!!
I'm running Froyo 2.2
Samsung SGH-1897
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Pease help me!!!
Hey guys still trying to figure this out..!!! any help is appreciated
I would like to suggest that the roms be seperated better Froyo roms , Gingerbread roms, etc. I'll see a rom that look nice , only to find out after reading its a Froyo rom.
I couldn't agree more, it would have to be standardized within the forum posts for devs to be able to post new roms. Not sure if that is possible but I hope so.Personally I think we need to get a standardized way of writing the Thread Title that includes all the info we might be interested in. And encourage the Devs to stick to it in their posts. Maybe something like
[ROM][firmware version][baseband version][kernel version] name and latest build number: cute message if desired
I'm sure it has been suggested before as many Devs are already doing something very similar. If all the Devs titled their threads that way it would make it easier to pick out the threads we are looking for. Maybe the Devs just need a little gentle suggestion.
I would suggest using superoneclickroot to unroot your phone and see if you still have 3g service, then trying the root process one more time. If that doesn't work, try one of the fantastic roms that the site offers CM7 or Continuum or my favorites.Put in an AT&T SIM; the Captivate does not come with the T-Mobile US 3G bands.
The good ROMs are Froyo already. Serendipity, Cognition 4, Paragon, Firefly, etc. are all Froyo.Hahah.. sorry man.. first time with the android and first time in foruns...
1- update to Froyo, 2- Root the phone 3- install a custom Rom (like Serendipity or other).
You think i should jump to step 2??
so i got the captivate with the android 2.1. if i root the phone and install the custom rom, you think i dont need to upgrade to froyo??
Your steps are wrong. You would root, then install the custom ROM. Download whichever ROM you decide on, then just follow that tutorial step by step (you can skip the going back to stock step, because you are on stock). You will root in the steps, and then install your custom ROM. Once you've done that, if you have questions, you should post your questions in the appropriate Captivate Q&A thread, there's a sticky for each ROM.Ok.. im doing right if i: 1- update to Froyo, 2- Root the phone 3- install a custom Rom (like Serendipity or other).
Did i miss something? Do you recommend anything else?
Thanks for your help, its my first time with this Os and i appreciate some tips.
