Yea this is intentional. The navdrawer is more a center for calls to action. Where as the dropdown is meant to let you navigate the hierarchical sections of the app.
I think in general if you're used to using the navdrawer to switch between forums (like I was), using the dropdown takes at least a few days to really get used to, but for example I've been testing it now for over a week and the dropdown seems more natural (to me). At any rate the previous method didn't let you flip from Forums -> XDA Labs, unless you clicked the "Apps/Xposed updates" line, which applies a filter, wasn't as consistent and not clear to new users.
This way it's more consistent across a larger majority of the app.
It's not set in stone yet and things may change, but think of it this way. Before you'd have to swipe the navdrawer and press Forums, now you press the dropdown and press Forums. It's a different way of switching between the two main sections of the site with the same amount of actions.
In a perfect world it's even more seamless than that, but the reality is that the app has 2 major separate sections and we're still trying to figure out an approach that works well. I'm personally partial to more of an icon -somewhere- that kinda toggles, but that's not the most intuitive approach.
EDIT: I may change the behavior when hitting Back while viewing Quotes/Mentions, but it's tough to decide what to do. On one hand, if you're browsing Xposed and just want to read a new PM, hitting back should take you back to Xposed and not to the root of Forums... but on the other hand maybe that's what you want?
EDIT2: Er, hitting Back in Quotes/Mentions takes you to Forums.. did you try that @theminikiller or was it just not intuitive? I'm trying to understand the process in order to improve the user experience and not just putting you on the spot
EDIT3: I personally don't like the look of Android's built in PopupMenu and would love to switch to a slicker, smoother type of dropdown that just slides down and remains flush/the same color as the title bar..
I personally don't like having two different ways of navigating. For all options other than forums one uses the hamburger menu (navdrawer), but only for forumsone has to use the drop-down list.
To me this is not intuitive, confusing, and hides access to the forums.
Please, pretty please, put access to forums back in the navdrawer.
I'm a bit jealous to not be first editing here :crying:
Congrats to @TonikJDK ! :
Edit : ok, done. :good:
Thnks for the great update, really love is.
One thing though; when opening the app it shows a weird opening animation, looks something like the animation that a screenshot makes when taken and fades out.
Yea I noticed this when opening to Forums. I'll look into it. Offhand I'm actually pretty sure I know what's going on, I just need to check and do some testing.
Well considering its avast then I would say most likely a false positive.Avast reporting latest version as APK:cloudrep. False positive?

yes in general I'm sure you, as an individual, may not believe it on face value, nor did I, which is why I came to ask if anyone else got a similar flag (preferably from a different program). However, as you yourself quotes, "security is an illusion", thus perhaps haphazardly marking false positive without proper investigation, or at least confirmation/denial would indeed be false security.
Edit
Okay in the interim I found
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=179031.0
So I'll report it false
