Hello,

Very Good software, simple and smart. Congratulations.

I installed it on my HTC HD. It works fine, except that when I try to download the tiles in advance (by exploring, with the finger, the area I want to download), the software often ends prematuraly without any message.

Have you planned a tool to pre-download a complete area ? The exploring method takes time, especially if I want to download several resolutions, and is not very reliable so far.

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the feedback. could you please install the debug version (posted one page earlier) and explore the map with it until the program crashes? after that just post the \ommdebug.csv file...

i am going to write a tool to pre-download the tiles...

wow, this is really strange because there is nothing changed in the non-debug version except for the debug-logging.
I'll look over the code again, maybe I overlooked something.

EDIT: could you please upload the ommdebug.csv after heavy testing anyway? because it's possible that an exception was caught in the debug version, therefore it didn't make the program to stop. but it should be logged.

I will retest.

With the debug version I was "going east" from Europe to China and had no problems (zoomed in and out a little bit). But from previous runs I had allready a number or "tiles" in the cache.

Than after installing the last non debug version I was "going west" from Europe over the Atlantik to US. But the problem was I never "arrived" to the US somewhere over the Atlantik the program was closing without any notice.
This was the 1st time that I was going west and had therefore nearly none tiles in the cache.

The HD2 was connected to my laptop and the laptop had the internet connection.

With this version the HD was using the internet via the laptop I have not seen that the HD was establishing a seperate 3G or 2G connection

Hope that this more detailed description could help

Could it be a timing problem that the program tried to access tiles which are not totaly downloaded yet into the cache?

Best regards,

dingolino

Cannot fix GPS on Asus A696

I have several programs that connect and fix to the GPS just fine. However, OMM cannot fix GPS and always shows 0/0 sattelites, even under sunny open skies. Any suggestions?

runs well on my HTC Diamond Touch

Yes, an internet connection is needed to download the map tiles.

Installed faultlessly and runs well on my HTC Diamond Touch. :)

I think I have the same requirement as Citrix80 (Message 78) that is when I will most want to use OpenMobileMaps is while on foot in a part of the world where using my phones Data Connection to load maps simultaneously as I am moving would be very costly for me. But this is not a problem, as before leaving home using just OpenMobileMaps I can load via WiFi all the map resolutions I need for the area of my forthcoming journey, and then I can turn my phones data option off while overseas.

The only problem I have with my HTC Diamond is if I’m walking down a city centre street with tall buildings either side it has difficulty getting a GPS fix, and I had hoped to get a fix using OpenMobileMaps option “Allow GSM Location” with my cellphone connection on but my Data connection off, but this appears not to be the case?

I updated to v1.0.3640.29639 before a week or two. Since that the program closes itself after a while!

PS: here is my ommdebug.csv of the newest debug-verson (9.1.2010).

openseamap server integration

Hey,

as the openstreetmap server should be of th same communication like the one from openseamap.org it should be configurable, which server the software accesses.

could anybody verify which server / port details OMM needs and where it can be set up ?

Thanks for the hint. I will consider that option to change the server.

Right now I am very busy learning for my final exams so I am not able to work on OMM for a few weeks from now.
Sorry for the delay...

    --- NEWSFLASH ---
Yes, finally I finished work on version 1.6! Go and get it! ;)
Watch OpenMobileMaps running on HTC HD2
and on my good old HTC Wizard !
    --- NEWSFLASH ---

A development blog for OpenMobileMaps is located here: HERE!

I wrote an application similar to GoogleMaps but it's relying on OpenStreetMap.org.
It's finger friendly and showing the map on fullscreen.

GPS support and GSM triangulation (if no GPS device is present) is built in.

The downloaded map tiles are stored on your phone/storage and only new ones are downloaded.

It's tested and working with all possible resolutions, with internal GPS and external GPS. And it should work on all Windows Mobile devices with .NET CF 3.5 installed.

Tell me what you think of it and please find some bugs!

To all others: bookmarks and lots of improvements await you!
    2
    Long time no see.

DynDNS is shutting down free domain services and omm.mine.nu got a victim of it. This is why I had to release a hotfix version of OpenMobileMaps with a new webservice URL.

I also included the extended maps.xml in this version. But it will be only generated on a fresh install (if no maps.xml exists).

Have fun and thank you for all this support over the last years! This is a great community!

    Thanks for the reply
I tried it and it works great
I wonder if it exists in Spanish?
how it works with GSM or GPRS, I have no GPS

currently, there is no spanish translation. but, if you want to, you could make one. this way you don't need to donate anything to get a registered version.

Very interesting. Are the screenshots updated? :)

Now, the screenshots in the first post are updated and here are some more which didn't fit into the first post... ;)
