To get a TMOUS HD2 to work with AT&T do I need to flash a different radio? With a TMOUS radio the phone won't connect to AT&T.

Sent from my HD2 using xda app-developers app

Is the TMOUS HD2 sim unlocked ?
Have a look here for more info on sim lock.
With a sim unlocked HD2 you should be able to use all the gsm & edge functions of AT&T service but 3G will probably be no go as AT&T did use 1900Mhz band last time I checked & the HD2 TMOUS has 1700 & 2100Mhz 3G bands & this is hardware related so not changeable via flashing radio software.

Check the phone settings>Band with a sim card installed & make sure you are on GSM option or Auto, if on WCDMA then it would not connect I expect due to reasons mention in previous post.

I can't seem to find such an option. In case it matters, the OS is Android 4.0.4. I had the same problem with WM though.

As above check sim in another phone & also try a few other sims in HD2 as if can get no sims to register with a network it either software issue/settings/simlock or at worse hardware.
being an eBay handset chances of hardware is possible as many bad handsets get offloaded through eBay.

Is the HD2 detecting sim as such ! if detecting sim then hopefully it is phone band setting is on WCDMA then it can not connect to at&t as TMOUS HD2 does not have the 1900Mhz 3G band.
Check phone band settings on your android rom & the rom thread for an known band issues.
Personally I would flash WM6.5 and test device fully on WM & if ok then proceed to android roms.
WM6.5 has far more setting controls for phone radio & most other functions compared to android .

Okay. It's back on WM6.5. Network type is set to GSM and Frequency is set to Auto. It still doesn't work though. :(

Couple things to check:
If you flashed a stock TMOUS ROM you will have simlock.exe in the windows directory folder. Find this & try running it, if it runs then phone is likely not unlocked properly, if it does not run then handset probably already unlocked correctly.
Try some other network sims in the HD2 & see if any connect, you should get calls & edge internet if GPRS settings for provider are entered correctly.
You can try putting a few layers of tape or piece of thin plastic on back of simcard so pushes on sim slot contacts firmer as sometimes helps .
If all above fails to conclude much then very likely hardware issue with sim slot or radio/mainboard :-/
Have used an at&t in a TMOUS HD2 myself so know in GSM mode you should be connected for calls & can have Edge data.

I tried a few other AT&T SIMs and none of them have been successful. I tried a T-Mobile SIM and it connected just fine. I'm fairly sure it it's unlocked though. This is quite inconvenient

You need check the simlock.exe app in windows folder, find it with file explorer & run it.
Also worth checking with at&t in case they are blocking that handset for some reason.
really need try other network provider sims besides t-mobile or at&t for testing.
Hopefully it is simlock issue & you can either get it properly unlocked by code or cable.
Speak with at&t support first though, for sure 3G is a no go on TMOUS HD2 but at&t 2G services work fine on unlocked handset as used them myself on my TMOUS HD2 while in the US :-/

I'm sorry that this is totally off topic from radios, but you all have been very helpful here: could I buy another HD2, probably a euro one, with a busted screen or buttons and put its insides into my TMOUS HD2? I say a euro one because the prices for broken ones seem to be pretty cheep for both US and international HD2s and an international one would be more likely to work with AT&T. Is this logical, or am I just being ridiculous?

Yes you could do something like that.
The Euro HD2 mainboard will fit in TMOUS but is a little shorter (about 1.2mm) so the usb jack & audio jack sit more recessed in the TMOUS housing.
You could also use your screen/lcd on a euro HD2 so something should be possible by rebuilding one or the other.

Okay, i know this is a really dumb question, but here goes:

I bought a HD2 on eBay (finally :D) and it has the HSPL and WM6.5 Energy ROM but how do I find out which radio I have? So i know whether i need to upgrade it to install magldr :/

Thanks :

Either reboot device & you will see the Radio string at bottom of screen while booting or with WM6.5 running go to:
Start>Settings>System>Device Information>Software Information

    Installing:
For installing a RADIO ROM you need HardSPL installed to your device.
Rename the extracted file to "RUU_Signed.nbh" and flash with the CustomRUU: it won't hardreset your device.

    FAQ:
*-What is the .7z extension? How can I decompress it?
    * The .7z extension is a 7-Zip compressed file. You can decompress it with the latest version of almost every (de)compression software. Anyway, the best for decompressing 7z files is 7-Zip (Freeware).

    *-What is a Radio ROM?
    * The Radio ROM is the software part of your device that is powering on/off and controlling your radio interfaces. This includes Bluetooth, 2G/3G Phone, WiFi, GPS..... And it also includes the OEMSBL (Radio BootLoader) and other device specific firmwares needed for using your radio interfaces and for interfacing them with the OS (Windows Mobile/Android).

    *-What is rilphone.dll?
    * rilphone.dll is a Windows Mobile "driver" that tells to your OS what are the commands suitable for your Radio ROM. When a new Radio ROM is released, sometimes a new rilphone.dll will come with it because a new radio may contain a new command for a different scope (battery optimization, best signal calibration, etc..)

*-How can I install a new rilphone.dll to my already installed ROM?
    * You can make a CAB or use Resco Explorer... However, it has to be put in \Windows\ directory (and, of course, you need to reboot after the installation!)

    *-Why change rilphone.dll?
    * Replacing your rilphone.dll is a dangerous task and it should be done only if you experience real problems with your current one. Remember that rilphone is an essential library for your phone to work correctly, so.. you can break the phone part of your ROM or make it to work correctly with your current radio (but in any case this can't break your device's hardware). In short, replace it only if you know what are you doing!!

    Happy flashing!

thanks to everyone for dumping and creating the nbh's (3.14 htc rebuilt nbh myself).
i also renamed all nbh's and repacked them into rar's with equal name for overview.

hspl is needed to flash the radio roms independent from main rom.
leoadvancedruu highly advised to flash radio rom without hard-reset.

for now, those can be used until kholk reuploads them elsewhere.

    RADIO Mirrors added

    Hello everyone,
i'd just like to inform you that i have added all Radios mirrored by HD2Owner (thank you, Sir!) to my own MediaFire HD2 Repository, which anyone may access to their liking. The Link is in my Signature.
By the looks of it, the 2.09 Radio versions are gone from HD2Owner's mirror, so i cannot provide links to them either. I suppose they must be flawed or something.
    Hope it helps anyway.

I didn't check if the actual download link was still good. I have re-uploaded an archive with both radios http://www.multiupload.nl/3AXAACB5CG, just flash the radio that doesn't say TMOUS :)
