That's because of the mismatching of the modems.
Follow my guide. When you have successfully updated to Android 5.1 then flash the network fix for XT1033 from the files given above.

Hey could you please upload only XT1033 folder for network issue? I don't wanna download the entire gpe folder, as i already have it
And those who are unable to enter stock recovery after 5.0.1. Press power button for few seconds and then volume up button. Combo is changed in lollipop. :)
Thank you :)

i am using xt1033, so if we flash 4.4.4 gpe directly will it leads to any issues like bricking, and lastly if we do a network fix, what about the future updates. will i continuously recieve updates, and if i install any updates in future will it leads to any issues, since we have already fix the network drivers..

You won't brick ur phone if u follow the guide step-by-step. Whenever new update is released (which won't be released since Android 5.1 is the last update for Moto G) you can flash back stock Android 4.4.4 and then update it using the usual method easily.

That error if due to incompatible network modems. If you follow the guide step-by-step, you will not get that error.

Your XT1033 with Android 5.0.1 GPe has XT1033 network modems installed which will not allow you to update to Android 5.1.
So, just flash 4.4.4 GPe >> 5.0.1 GPe >> Sideload 5.1 and then flash the network fix for XT1033 as given in the Guide.

You are basing your assumption on the track record of Motorola during the "blur" days. Maybe along with the days owned by google and the use of near stock android, the length of support will also extend as well.

    Let's hope so...

Hello, thanks but I need more help. I was in 5.0.2 on a XT1033, installed a CyanogemMOD 5.1 and lost my network. So I did your tutorial and everything was perfect but my network didn't work, the device show "out of service / TIM", do you have any idea about what is the problem? How do you change the modem firmware? Thanks a lot!

    Is TIM your cellular operator?
