Simple way to root and unroot stock kernel without flashing insecure kernel.
Don't worry about custom counter and yellow triangle, with this method they never appear, because we only rooting, it's a rooting script not a custom kernel.
This rooting script included Busybox installer.

Rooting
  • Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
    - MOD EDIT: Links removed as its the unsafe version...
    or download zip from http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
    - SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
  • Reboot to recovery.
  • Choose apply update from external storage.
  • Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
  • Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
  • Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
  • Reboot
  • You are done and now your device is Rooted

Unroot
  • Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
    - MOD EDIT: Links removed as its the unsafe version...
    or download zip from http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
    - SU-Uninstaller-Signed.zip
  • Reboot to recovery.
  • Choose apply update from external storage.
  • Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
  • Choose install zip from sdcard
  • Choose and Install SU-Uninstaller-Signed.zip
  • Reboot
  • You are done and now your device is Unrooted

Tested on latest stock Galaxy S II ICS rom.
Tested on latest Galaxy Note by some user (thanks for report)

Note: This method should work for other device with ICS rom, check CWM that compatible for your device here http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager

worked perfectly on LPH. I reset my counter with Jig, updated to LPH(the bootloader too) and used this to use CWM and root. I ended up restoring my CM9 backup and now I'm on the new bootloader(feels faster, may be just me) with no triangle. Thanks!

Do you loose the ability to install apps to sd card like when you use CF-Root kernels or is it a safe method?
Thanks

About the bootloader that came with lph, when you select it, do you also check update bootloader in odin?
Thanks

You may have the Holy Grail here - a rooting method that doesn't need USB/PC connection.

As far as I know, there is nothing else that can do this.

Market it as such, and you're on a winner.

Any reason why someone without said connection abilities couldn't root with this ROM and then change accordingly?

Still many who don't want ICS, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone's rooted via this method and then successfully changed to GB.

Will work on 2.3.6 ?

I'm on official XWLA4.

If it does first i install the CWM.zip and then the SU-Installer-signed.zip ?

It still says "signature verification failed"

Any luck boys?

My bad! Works fine...
For those who are still stuck, please flash the CWM first and then flash the SU Signed zip file...

This works on ICS as well...

Thanks mate, you ROCK!

Why do I get no answers to my questions?

Are there so evident? Are they answered yet?

    There are bad questions?

I just want to learn what the software does!!

    :(:(:(

Yes they are evident and answered many times (in other threads, and on interwebs). Questions asked are NEVER bad, just that the place you are asking is not appropriate for those questions.

Let me try this (but promise that you will do the research on your own now, and also in future, before you tweak your device):

As far as file 1 is concerned: You really need to read across the internet. Just Search "What is Clockworkmod recovery" and you will get your answer. Basically it is a custom console to recover the OS. The basic job is to install OS updates, and delete user data if required. CWM gives you more options than the standard recovery on any device.

SU (superuser app) controls the superuser access to applications. Once this is installed you can control which apps get access (It will ask you for permission).

Busybox is a collection of utilities from Linux. These are utilities that are not available on android by default. If you have worked on linux you will have separate executables for each of these utilities, busybox combines them in one.

So effectively they do modify stuff on your phone. Although, in my experience, nothing that will damage your device. These have been written by true masters and used by millions.

    Regarding question 2:
Read the post 1, and with the answers already provided to your questions above you will be able to figure out if this will work with your device. It has worked with ICS on my device.
If you are not comfortable with/do not know about tweaking/rooting your device, please avoid making changes until you learn more.
I understand your hesitation, I spent a month reading hundreds of posts here before I rooted my device.

Hit thanks on Rachmat's OP (and this post if you like :D ) if this helped you. :)

    Super Method for Rooting SGS2

    I Fully Appreciate your work
    ,:)

Superb Way to Root without Triangle!

    Thanks you very much!;)

---------- Post added at 10:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:25 PM ----------

Im abit confused here... How can I flash those ZIPS if I have no recovery?

My SGS2 is BRAND NEW. I want to root it but I cant find a unsecure kernel that matches my current one (XWKI8)

Also, if I do flash the unsecure one, how the hell do I get the original one back (as Im unable to back up because im not root...)

    HELP please...

First of All, you should update your stock rom to LPQ (4.0.3) ICS version, then

    download all zips from following:

    http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-galaxys2.zip

    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/34053267/SU-Busybox-Installer.zip

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34053267/SU-Installer-signed.zip

After downloading, you should copy these files in to your Phone Both Memories (SD CARD & Internal Storage)

    Turn off your phone
    and follow Rachmat3 steps
    1. Go to recovery.
(Vol-UP + Home + Power> release power button after Samsung logo appear)

    2. Choose apply update from external storage.

    3. Choose recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-galaxys2.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.

    4. Choose install zip from sdcard.

    5. Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip

    6. Choose and Install SU-Installer-signed.zip

    7. Reboot System.

You are done and now your device is Rooted!

    Hope you understand!

    Thanks
