Sorry to annoy you again. Unfortunately I didn't find any PDF file or a link to a PDF File at the first pages of the tread. I also didn't find a decompiled MCU.img. What I found were decompiled MTC...apks.

It was @darkleo2000 that decompiled/decrypted the 1.86 MCU here.

P.S. The only downgrade I did not do was that for MCU. I still have (KLD) version 2.08, while before I had both mcu & update images of version 2.03. But the MCU should not matter, should it?

MCU version shouldn't have an effect on Android apps.

Although I downgraded to Android 4.2.2, the cracked TomTom app has now the same issue as under KK 4.4.2 - it asks for network access and fails licensing if granted.

Buying TomTom from Google Play store is not possible: the TT app is NOT listed, probably because it is not supported by our devices. Obviously, that is not right, since the same TT app had run OK before my unfortunate upgrade to KK.

If someone succeeds in installing TomTom, please share the recipe!

P.S. The only downgrade I did not do was that for MCU. I still have (KLD) version 2.08, while before I had both mcu & update images of version 2.03. But the MCU should not matter, should it?

I think your problem is the fact that you are using a pirated app, nothing else, not the Android version definitely not the MCU, just that you were able to get away with it for a while, but not any longer. KK has more advanced security features than JB, so somehow I think its let TT know that the app is pirated and now TT has your device id and will no longer allow you to use it, even if you downgrade to JB.

I think the way round it if you dont want to pay for an app, is to use a free and open source nav app, like Navfree, BeOnRoad or OSMandMaps etc, or maybe try and change your device id ?

My button backlight is on all the time as well. It came with MCU V2.02

Did your factory head unit have the button lights on all the time ?

My factory CD/Radio did not, but I retro-fitted the factory sat nav and the button lights on that were always on.

I m sure there was a box with some code in it from the MCU in the post I remember.

Edit: just done a thread search and someone mentions the MCU from an AN21-U being de-compiled, I was reading both threads for a while, so maybe I m remembering a box with the MCU code in it from the AN21-U thread ? Its worth checking that thread and asking who-ever de-compiled it for tips, even though its a different MCU he might be helpful.

GPS Location Problem and Google Maps

Hi Everyone
,
I'm still having problem with the GPS after upgrade to KK. I made some test today and download some GPS fix from Google Store with not luck..

My problem that Google Maps while navigating looks like it stop every four/five seconds for two seconds and repeat that all the time.

On IGO run a litle better but for example I'm driving at 30 Milles by hour but in IGO show I'm at 40/45 milles by hour, normally must be a little bit slow, never more faster.

Another problem with the GPS is that for example the app that comes with the KK 4.4 never found my location, for this reason I think that the GPS never lock the location...

Any idea about what can I do or test?

The most important for me is Google Maps because I use everyday for work purposes.

Thanks

I'm using Google maps version 9. It's working fine for me. Which version are you using? Have you tried using earlier version 8?

It's a MCU problem for the button backlight.if you use mcu till 1.77 the button light wil vork as it should.

That whoud be awsam if we could make our own mcu images

Bricked Kit Kat

The first one semi-bricked kit kat upgraded!!!! Please Help!! :(

I have KGL-7620G Universal Unit (without knobs). I've came from 1.99 software and 1.86 MCU.
I've decided to start with KLD2_KK_800x480_141110_rooted_light.zip and 2.09 MCU. I've put update.img and mcu.img on the SD root as always.
The unit finished to flash and reboot, and from this moment it become to be totally worst.
All the screen go black for almost everything!!
The weird thing is i can't see even the recovery screen!!.
Anyway it still like working because i've learned the button pushing sequence of recovery (one short push change to update, one long push confirm). In this way i've tried to flash every version i've could. I do it in "blind mode" because the screen is totally black, but the backlight button respond to commands: (in recovery it smooth fade, in flashing mcu the change colors, etc).

Here comes the most weird part. Doing a "blind flashing of KK 4.4.2":putting the update.img on root and doing the pushing button sequence even with the black screen (one short push, other long push).. after a few minutes the screen goes to rear camera view and i have a Android toast dialog saying that it find a firmware update!!. That's weird, the screen is not broken!
Trying to apply this update doesn't help.
Trying to flash every combination of MCU+Android (4.2.2 and 4.4.2) doesn't work.

I'm totally stuck. Can anybody help me?? I don't know what more to do! :(

I thought the 1.3.2 release of TomTom was specifically to allow it to store maps on external SD on KK devices?

Thanks for the code for dimming, I will give it try tonight or tomorrow.

REgarding TomTom. I managed to install it and get it working. The problem is well known for KitKat, and is what you actually mention. KitKat has some extra security measures and does not allow non-primary apps to write on external SD cards. That is why in principle you need TomTom 1.3.2, which was supposed to overcome that. If you install it and you keep the maps of the previous version (3.96Gb in Europe...) it does not find them. The reason is that Tomtom 1.3.2 is looking for the maps on the internal sd card and not in the folder "tomtom/com.tomtom.europe/" but in "Android/data/com.tomtom.europe/". So, here is the problem. There is no 4Gb in the internal memory. But, I found a "partial" workaround.

How to install tomtom
1- clear any previous version you had in the headunit
2- install tomtom 1.3.2 but do not run it, it won't find the maps
3- create the following folders in your internal sdcard "/Android/data/com.tomtom.europe/files/files"
* instead of "europe" you must use your own maps
4- copy the file ".metada.xml" that you have on your GPS card under "tomtom/com.tomtom.europe/.metadata.xml" to the folder "/Android/data/com.tomtom.europe/files"
5- open this file and modify the path that you find there to: "/mnt/internal_sd/Android/data/com.tomtom.europe/"

At this point you have the right file structure, but there are no files in the internal sd card.
You cannot copy all the maps there because there is no space. The solution is to create a link.

6- Download folderMount from play store
7- Create a link from /mnt/internal_sd/Android/data/com.tomtom.europe/files/files/ --> "/mnt/external_sd/tomtom/com.tomtom.europe/files/" (or wherever you have your maps in the GPS card)
8- "run the link, it is the pin icon. WHen created, you will see a green pin next to the link
9- run tomtom
This works. But I found a problem.
Tomtom is running and you turn off the car and the unit. When you restart, tomtom starts before the link is created, so it starts and finds no maps. After a little while the link is created, and then you can see the maps again but the settings, address, and everything that you set up earlier is gone. So, I guess tomtom is not writing the settings or because they are written on the folder that is linked, it does not find them and restarts as fresh.
The solution is to create the link before tomtom runs. Best option would be inputing the link code before anything is running. I do not know how it can be done, but I am sure it can. It is just an easy linux command.

To fix:
- create a link between internal_sd card and external_sd at boot before any app is working
- fix settings writing.

WARNING:
If you uninstall the application when the link is on, it will erase the maps on your GPS card.

Hope it helped.

I have just installed the KK 4.4.2 Pre-rooted + V1.86 MCU on my BMW E46 unit

At the first install it got stuck in a bootloop. I reflashed it again and now its working.

Now, the Xposed module is working correctly (before, on 4.2.2 I could not get it to work), everything moves very fast, sound and radio seems a bit improved and I like the new Menu style.

Downsides:
-when I press the Mode button, it appears the logo on the screen and it gets stuck and it is only working after I press Reset button (I checked all the modes manually and they are working)
-the Music application, as in other versions, I would like that somebody makes the song list larger (exactly as in previous 4.2.2, the MTCMusic List Style)
-boot time, is around 35-40 seconds

All in all, I am happy with the update. If I could fix the above bugs it would be awesome.

Does anybody have a solution for my problems?

The MODE button bug I can ignore, but the rest of them?

This is how my current unit is set up..... I have not had time to tweak it lately been busy but will take some time over the weekend

yEXOlU7.jpg

More Pics: http://imgur.com/a/k7ggS

Current Config:
MCU 2.08 GS
Android 4.2.2 (Rooted)
App Storage: 3GB
Internal Storage: 5.7GB (I dont use this)
SD: 64GB MicroSD (MP3, Music Videos, GPS Data for Sygic, CoPilot, Navigon, TomTom)
GPS: 4GB (iGo on it Don't use for nothing else)
Rear USB: 60GB HDD (Mp3 Full) lol
Front USB I don't use

For Mobile Internet I use a T-Mobile WiFi HotSpot with 5GB/mo, I think this is better than 3G dongle at least for me, you can also use your mobile phone to share internet, but you will have to program yourself to always activate the Phone hotspot or you can use a simple app like Tasker and tell it when ever the phone is connected to the Radio activate the phone hotspot and when it disconnect shut off the wifi hotspot, it simple, then everything for there on will be automated as to internet to the unit, you will need to make sure that you preconfigure the bluetooth between the phone and radio because this will be used as the trigger for this automated process, and also make sure your phone plan has wifi hotspot activated or hacked.... I do recommend initially setting up the radio on a home/office wifi internet connection.

For Music I use MediaMonkey, it is FREE and categorize music by artist, genre, year, album and best of all keeps a database of this information, so when every you get back to your car it doesn't have to search the USB, MicroSD or Hard Drive again, it remembers everything unless you add or remove music, and it has a search bar you can find a song in seconds, I have over 10,000 mp3's and its a breeze the Stock Music Player don't have this and it will search every time you start the car, this is NOT good especially if you have alot of music. Media Monkey also plays videos, how cool is that... they have other apps like power amp but its not FREE, and does the same as mediamonkey. I also use MX Player for Video Because its good if you have videos in folders it will list folders and its hardware accelerated.

I Have Pandora Installed, I use this because for one its free streaming on my T-Mobile plan and two you can set up your playlist on a pc and it populates on the radio, and Pandora just works, how ever it does have ads if you're not a premium user, which I am :) but hey the regular radio does have ads so its ok I guess. I also have another app call Internet radio it has a wide variety of preset radio stations, All the channels are divided into categories - electro, dance, pop, relax, rock etc - and available 24/7. The list of stations includes not only the radio stations (online and FM) but also full discographies of different artists., Then there is tune-in, spotify, rhapsody etc.

For Internet Videos, I use the good ol NetFlix, Yes it works perfect, but it used alot of DATA so be aware. but I have watched movies and TV shows on the go fluent. I also use CBS and Hulu.

The Stock GPS App is fine its iGO Primo. honestly it works fine, updated or not but its better to have it updated, since some street change. other than that its ok. there is NO Live Traffic,
Other GPS Apps that works flawless is Google Maps, you can download it from Google Play Store, it does need data to work and navigate but it does give Live Traffic,
Waze is also a GREAT GPS App its a little bit better than Google Maps because it has community reported incidents and they're usually on point.

I also have TomTom, Sygic, CoPilot and Navigon all works!!!

USB Dash cam that works maybe alot of models works but I had HP KQ246AA 8.0 MP Deluxe Webcam lying around and it worked... but I'm pretty sure most usb cam works.

Im able to use the hardware buttons with the latest car service

let me hear about other users setup.....
does MediaMonkey works fine if you set it as default player via XposedMTC? can your skip tracks? it doesnt't work on my unit. when i press next, music pauses. But poweramp is working fine.

Moderation Announcement (added by @dark alex)
Hi together this is an important announcement!

As you knew Mike an me we were talking about a dedicated section.
This is now achieved and I am requested by him to sort things out from here.

I will split out some Key knowledge posts, for example malaysks Firmware-Post, to new Threads in our subforums.

    Developers
Please if you create new work open you own Thread in the new forums. If you already have posted here probably wait until I split your post out or write to me to ensure I will split you out if you think I missed you or you have a critical release.

    Questionning Users
Please open your own thread for your questions in our new section. I can not split out every question from here. This thread will be left over for searching so please if you have current questions just ask in our new Q&A-Section.

I will start splitting up this thread in about one hour.

You can find the new section at the bottom of this link:
    http://xdaforums.com/android-auto

    Thank you!

This is a new thread for this car dvd that was first reported on comment #2224 of the AN-21 U thread.

    Probably you are here because:

    • you want to root your unit. Only units with ROMs 4.2.2 can be rooted (see below how). The only way to have a rooted 4.4.x is installing a pre-rooted ROM (see below how)
    • you have a problem (no internet, no sound, buttons do not work, bad mic quality, rear camera image not showing, door opening not showing, etc.
    • you want to upgrade your unit to a newer software that has sleep mode, personalized music app, personalized functions, root, xposed, can remap buttons, etc.
All this is covered in this post and most of the problems that you can have are summarized in this post too. Please read this first post before asking. And use the search function of the thread, before asking. Thanks.

TRICKS THAT MIGHT SAVE 1000 QUESTIONS ON THE THREAD
Read below and here for basic questions asked and answered 1000 times.

How to root my unit. Only 4.2.2 can be rooted with an app (see below). To have rooted 4.4x you must install a pre-rooted ROM (see below)
Get sound when in reverse (thanx to @Keylo Lo)
    here
    Engineering/Factory settings password "126" (thanx to @blankers)
This allows you to change logo, sound volume, SWC codification, etc.
Activate USB debugging --> Go to Factory Settings and enter password "adbon".
System sound is low compared to Radio--> Go to Factory settings and change volume levels
GPS button does not trigger GPS app You need to choose predefined GPS app, in Settings--> GPS

    Get Into Recovery
1 Press reset button and power button together
2 After about 5 secs release reset button, but keep pressing power button
3 When booting screen appears release power button.
    4 It boots into recovery.
--Update 1-- some units without front USB have a different procedure
Firstly power on the unit and then long press the power button and then reset. Then the unit will get three rings and you loose your hand on the power button and short press the power button again. (thanx @netay)
--Update 2-- some others have this procedure (thanx @R4D3N)
    1. Turn off the unit by holding 3-4 sec the power button.
    2. Hold the RESET button + POWER button for 5 sec
    3. Release the RESET button and keep pressing the POWER button for 2 sec
    4. Release the POWER button and wait. The Recovery menu appears.
    5. With the Volume knob you can move up/down and long press on Volume/Power button to select the option.

    Get Into Bootloader
The process is basically the same, with the difference that you need to have the computer attached to the unit via the front miniUSB (if you do not have a front USB, you will have to ask your seller how to get into bootloader mode)

1- boot the unit as usual.
2- plug the front usb of the unit to your computer usb.
3- Then, push the reset button and the power button at once and keep them pushed. The reset button is the tiny pin next to the mp3 sdcard. The power button is the volume knob. You will hear the power cut throught the speakers.
4- Release reset button and keep power button pushed. Now the unit will reboot. You will see nothing, just a black screen. Do not release the power button yet. Your computer will detect a " new hardware", that is the RolckChip. When you hear the windows noise of new detected hardware, you can release power button. It will automatically install the drivers.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    HOW TO UPGRADE YOUR SYSTEM
BEFORE UPGRADING YOUR UNIT YOU MUST KNOW
    • MCU your unit, there are many (KGL, KGL1, KGL2, KGL3, KGL4, KGL5, KLD, KLD1, KLD2, JY, GS, KYD, MD, BN, HA, MX), If you install the wrong MCU, you will brick your unit.
To know which one you have. Go to Settings -->About
If still not clear, see: here or here.
If you cannot find it here, it probably means that you are in the wrong thread.
    • Resolution of your unit. 800x480 or 1024x600. If you install the wrong ROM, you will brick your unit.
    • Chip of your unit RK3066 or RK3188. It does not really matter, ROMs and MCU are compatible between chips.
IT IS ADVISABLE TO BACKUP YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE PLAYING WITH IT
Upgrading is supposed to be a safe operation, but you never know what can happen. So, before updating make sure that:
1- To backup of your system the easiest way is download nandroid root from google play, and do a nandroid backup with TWRP format). Save it in your external SD.
2- make sure you can enter in bootloader mode (see below how to)
3- it is recommended to backup your apps and data (use titanium from google play). The update will do a factory reset.
FOLLOW THIS TO UPGRADE YOUR ROM AND/OR MCU
0- Do a back up (copy the files somewhere safe) of your internal SD card memory. It will be wiped during the process.

1- Download the ROM (Resolution 1024x600 or 800x480) and MCU (KGL, KLD, JY, GS,RM, MX, BN, HA) for your unit.
ROMs--> repository This will get you a file named update.img. There are different "flavors" of ROMs.
    Code:
    - [user=853627]@coudu[/user] (rooted, stock). Early v4.0 and v4.1 have some problems.
    - [user=3590033]@Malaysk[/user] (rooted, with very useful mods, some come with NEXT launcher)
    - [user=6041319]@dsa8310[/user] (rooted, almost stock)

MCUs--> Latest MCUs by Malaysk are here . This will get you a file named mcu.img

2- copy the update.img you have chosen to the root of your GPS card.

3- copy the mcu.img for your specific unit to the root of your GPS card (if you do not want to update mcu.img, you can skip this step)

4- insert back the GPS card to the unit. If no window pops up, reboot the unit. At boot, the presence of update.img will be detected and a pop up window will ask you whether you want to update your unit. It will automatically reboot into recovery mode and update your unit. Once done, remove update.img and mcu.img from the root of the gps card or you will be asked every boot for an update.

5- In some Coudu´s (sd partition of 3Gb) and Malaysk´s ROMs versions, it is necessary to do a factory reset just after the first boot so that everything works properly.

6- If you lost buttons or radio after the upgrade --> Go to Factory settings (password 126) and choose the proper canbus for your car and the radio chipset. You can change boot logo if you want.

    * If you get Google services error after upgrading to KitKat see this and this
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THINGS YOU MAY WONDER BEFORE BUYING A HEADUNIT
    Code:
    [B]- Boot Up:[/B]: time is around 30s.
[B]- GPS[/B]: GPS positions very fast. TomTom, Navigon, Sygic, and regular off-line GPS work. Navigon and Sygic have some problems with some ROMs
[B]- Stand by mode[/B]: Latest ROMs and MCU have the possibility of choosing stand by mode with various times chosen.
[B]- Radio:[/B] radio stations are saved as frequencies
[B]- Bluetooth contacts:[/B] contacts are saved on the device.
    - Works fine with Bose system (Audi)
    - Possible ground loop noise that needs some tricks to be removed (see section problems)
    - Torque works and can run in parallel with A2DP
    - ELM327 works (might need special app like CarService in very weird cases)
    - Camera works (might be better to get the one with RK3188 chip)
    - There is no automatic brightness control because the unit does not have light sensor, but there are apps that can help
    - The touch screen is extremely responsive. It works as good as most phones.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW TO ROOT AND INSTALL TWRP
Instructions to get root (thanx to @webdude12)
It only works for Android 4.2.2. If you want to root 4.4.x you need to take apart update.img and inject SuperUser app (this is only for experts as @coudu, @Malaysk, @dsa8310 ). The alternative is to install a 4.4.x pre-rooted image and you do not have to do anything else. See below in HOW TO UPGRADE YOUR UNIT section how to do it.

If you want to root your 4.2.2, download Root Master 2.1.1 here
    Code:
    1- Install the APK.
2- Make sure you are connected to WiFi and you have an internet connection.
3- Open Root Master (do not upgrade to newer version unless you can read chinese, The newest version has different options, all in chinese. Version 2.1.1 just has a button that says "root".))
    4- Press root button
5- Chinese characters will flash across the screen.
6- A second popup box will appear, press the purple button.
The app will automatically install SuperUser.
This program connects to servers oversea sending hardware information. The downloads a script that will attempt to root the device. If the first script fails, it downloads additional ones. Future goal is monitor this communication with a data logger and find which script works, so that a unique program can be written to achieve root.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to install TWRP recovery (thanx to Abdul_pt from Freaktab and 1-2-Hak and coudu)
You do not really need to install TWRP unless you wanna mod the rom yourself, if you mod roms you will know that already.
    - a.t.m. you need a mouse to use TWRP because touch is not working yet
    - if you install TWRP, you will not be able to update the update.img and mcu.img the way it was explained above.

If you still want to install TWRP:
    Android 4.2.2 800x480

And follow the post by 1-2-Hak

TRICKS AND MODDED APPS THAT DO WONDERS
    • Install app without adb when regular install does not work
Sometimes the app won't install normally and you need to sideload it.. This means that you need a computer and adb wifi. There is another way with which you won't need a computer. You just need to install a terminal emulator (you need root ).
1- Download the terminal emulator app you prefer
2- Download the app you want to install to /mnt/sdcard
      3- Open terminal emulator
4- On the terminal navigate to /mnt/sdcard by typing
      Code:
      - cd /mnt/sdcard
      - su
      - pm install "NameOfTheApp".apk
Done, you are app is now installed.

Good news for Sygic users :)

I have found solution how to make Sygic to work on ours devices.
It is wery easy and it finaly works for me, and I would like to share it with others. You can make it in two steps.
First of all you have to install rooted ROM. I have install update_4_4_4_RK3066_1024X600_7_MAL_14_05_2015.rar
You can find rooted rom for your device on this link https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BxmzvLRI7-eNeVA2SWkwM1pLZ28&usp=sharing#listv
When you done you have to install Xposed IMEI Changer. You can find it at Google Play Store and start the app. Xposed Installer will prompt up and you have to give permissions to IMEI Changer and to install Framework if you did not already.
Than yo have to open IMEI changer and copy IMEI code from your smartphone. (I have HTC M7 and IMEI code you can find in Settings-Info-Tlefon identity.
After that you have to reboot device and open IMEI changer to see is it new IMEI applied.
If it is, than you have to go to Google Play Store, install Sygic and download maps.
Result you can see on attached image.

I hope that it will work for others.

    NEW from 27 October, 2015
    Only for RK3066 800X480

Most global firmware update from me, perhaps a few months to 800X480.
Changes, updates, deletes, transfers, etc. lots of. I write about everything I will not. Here are just a couple:
+++ Android part of 10 October.
+++ New NEXT launcher - a slightly redesigned our radio me :)
+++ The new boot logo (the very first - that appears when you download a few seconds)
+++ Added gradient Status Bar (Settings - System)
+++ A new panel ext. programs and recently run (Settings - System)
+++ Added new tab in Preferences - Advanced Settings screen (think there will understand)
+++ Fixed program MTCBlueTooth - incorrectly displays the number of the incoming call
+++ Well, and so on. D.

Firmware I have not done a simple upgrade - erased all the data. Make a backup of your applications (System Settings then do by hand - not to restore from backup !!!)
