About Carbon

CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.

Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub. and on our Gerrit CarbonDev Gerrit.

We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.

Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.

While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

Support

We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:

1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.

2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ

3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.

4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

Who is Team Carbon?

Remember, every penny you send to us goes right back into the rom. It's used for hardware, server costs, etc - all the things that help us make Carbon better with every release. Your support means the world to us! If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

Under Carbon Fibres -> Device Tuneables, The page is blank. Is this expected or did I mess up? I assume this is where you would toggle Halo, Ribbons, DPI, etc. No worries if it just isn't there yet! Looking great!

Thanks

Ah. That section is meant for devices that need/have special functionality. Kind of like vibration settings etc... It's device specific.

Yeah I'm testing this now, Carbon is an awesome ROM no matter what version I've tried previously. The community here will embrace this undoubtedly. Can't wait to see the progression to stable but looks like the ROM has some pretty neat features already including active display.

I plan on using this with no scripts or tweaks for the time being either, see how it does.

Only ROM with both active display and lock screen notifications atm.
Some dude is probably reading this right now and kanging it.

Well we read it here first! Also the new boot animation is great, and boot time is phenomenal. Boot only takes seconds and I have not had that with ONE single ROM yet. Boots have normally been about a minute or so with other ROMs.

I'm going to try some things I haven't tried in a bit like ART although previously my experience with it hasn't been good. But again, a lot of time has passed since the last time I tried it.

Edit: Well never mind, ART couldn't get past the first 10 apps. That is pretty much what I thought would happen so no big deal. It's almost at the point ART might as well be removed altogether from KK ROMs but that is only my take, so in other words that isn't happening.

Art works. Try doing it without gaaps. Some gaaps don't have art support and that's why it gets stuck.

    Camera/Other Comments

Just reporting that Gallery2.apk gives this ROM working video recording as with a few other 4.4 ROMs. The procedure is a little harder than just using TB to uninstall the current camera. You have to go into system/apps and remove camera, Google Camera and gallery apps. Place the gallery2.apk file in the system/priv-app folder, fix permissions and reboot. Now you have a full working camera.

This ROM really deserves Beta status, and if you throw in the camera fix it's stable. Certainly good enough for DD. I've tried 90% of the extras, turned them on and off, used themes and all my usual apps. Active display is awesome too. No FCs and everything executes flawlessly. Another huge bonus was when the stock browser synced my Chrome bookmarks. The stock browser would not do that on the other 4.4 ROMs for whatever reason. This is important to me since Chrome is still very laggy and sloooooow. Other web browser apps are fine but don't sync my bookmarks like I want or don't do it at all. Plus you can block ads on the stock browser.

The other surprise has been that ART really works very well, another first for me. The Banks' Gapps are essential as @Somcom3X suggested. It solved all my issues with ART. It's funny how so many defend PA Gapps and will swear by them. Far as I'm concerned, there is proof they are very buggy. Before anybody says anything, I first tried the very latest PA Gapps which are all supposed to be ART compatible. Well, they aren't. Least not in this case. I'm sure they are great for PA ROMs but for others not so much, that's my experience anyway.

Overall this been a surprise because while I thought this ROM would be pretty good, I expected some bugs too. I won't say definitively there are none but I have yet to find one. Carbon has really grown on me and become my favorite ROM whether it's 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4. I appreciate their developers coming here to bring us an official build. We really have a helluva development group here along with @Cl3Kener, @ThdDude, @prbassplayer, @bryan2894, @Rushing, @soupysoup and @shalkith. The race between the ROMs for me is close but this one just went ahead of the pack IMHO.

Thread lightly cleaned...quit the arguing and the self-righteousness in here.

Read, study, use search, and help others. There is no reason to be nasty, we are here to learn and share ideas.

If a member needs help, then help them or ignore them, posting editorials about opinions and how the way things were or should be really detracts from the reason we are here. And, for those who think it is cute to say "thanks for nothing" - You are welcome, welcome to learn how to do things yourself, keep that type of snark out of threads too.

Short and sweet...be nice or get out.

    I'm your maintainer
on a side note: delta has been added, it downloads only the changes in the ROM and you one click flash them from the app. It's basically ota

Just reporting the latest build is working great here, Slim Pie works but I turned it off since it's a useless feature in my case. FYI if you plan to update using the browser on your phone, use either Opera or Chrome. Other browsers are FCing when trying to use the Carbon download site. For those who want to use the Carbon app or Delta, those things are still being worked out.

Seems some users ran like scalded dogs at the first hint of trouble and went elsewhere. Hardly have room to talk myself in many cases but I'm glad to say I stuck around this time. I haven't had this kind of stability with a 4.4 ROM since I've owned this device. I should also say I haven't had this much free time since I've owned the phone either. A thank you to Carbon devs for that alone.
