For comparison displays Sharp / Sony. Sharp is always a string and Sony panel is not :), but in reality it is really an even bigger difference. In the off state, and for me nicer compact black area.

That's a profound difference in between the panels from Sharp and Sony. The amount of difference qualifies to say it's not the same Sony product.

I am surprised about that. I am not really unhappy with the display, but did notice the puplish tint which is also visible on mijakhany's sample pics. And also the blackness depth is not what I was expecting. Now I see that the wallpapers are optimized to work well with that kind of screen, and that's why it looks good in the shop.

I thought matsusita was a panasonic thing. The screen on my t doesn't look that bad. Full brightness.

Well, TMD is a “collaboration” between us (Panasonic) and Toshiba. Matsusita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. is the old name of Panasonic.

My first V that i bought in December 2012 (Made 2012V47) had the Sharp panel. Accidentally drove over it with my car and got a new one from insurance. The new one was made 2013V13 and it has the Sony panel. Munch better blacks and viewing angles on the Sony panel. But mine looks like the one on the right but with the "red" camera from the left phone. My old V had a "black" front camera.

I've checked the panel and the one with two large sensors is Sony made and, from my point of view, it's better than the other one, which is Sharp made. I also like the "blackness" of Sony LCD :). So mystery is solved. There are at least 3 different Xperia V if we take into consideration the screen manufacturer.

Off topic: I checked my wife's Xperia Z and it looks like it has a Sharp panel :))

My toshiba panel on my t looks like the screen of your v. When it is switched off it is completely black (can't really tell where glass ends and starts) and the sharp panel of the v doesn't. My panel is bright and has good viewing angles. I think the toshiba and sony screen are almost the same

The Sharp panel annoying point is the lack of deep backs. Also, viewed only slightly tilted it looks hazy, or screen darks leak light so to say, making outdoors readability less than good, and to my opinion below average for a device in it's class.

Since I upgraded to Honami white style I can bear with it. But generally, I will keep this matter in mind when I will make a next buying decision in about 18 months time.

As if they'd care.

Do note that T has a larger screen and uses different display models.

TMD screens on LT25i are considered to be the worst among the three available options.

The screen pics and dmesg logs have been a big help. Thnx all involved.

Does anyone know where to find pics of the TMD panel?

Yea these are white from the factory. But colours may be user modded, that does not say anything.

The pics are lousy but from what I see, these two show subtle differences in housing design. They are not coming from the same factory. The screen quality seems is completely different. Anyway, don't buy from China if you don't like certain issues.

Both show up. Same phone. The strange thing are the extra sensors on the one from the right.

as i've checked, i'm pretty sure that both phone are original, not fake, i dont know why they are different, but i'ma show you some ways to test these phone (just to make sure).

    1. turn on the bravia engine 2 in setting/display, open a sam picture using Album on both phone and see which is more beatiful (set full brightness)
you can change the view angle to see which phone displays better.
    2. download the antutu benchmark on playstore (version 4), run it on the phone and see which phone will score higher, (they can only fake the phone, but they cant fake the real power of qualcomm snapdragon s4)
    3. type *#*#7378423#*#* and have a check.

    good luck man

@smooth_gl while i was looking at a chinese forum for a rom, i saw that there were 2 variants for the V. One is the LT25i and the other one is the LT25c. I googled it and saw that the LT25c is only for the chinese market. I didn't check the differences though between the 2 models.
Hope this can help you :)

V has 3 different display vendors: Sony, Sharp and Toshiba. With at least Sharp there's no visible second sensor window in the glass.

Checking which display it is can be done if you have root access; check dmesg output after a reboot for strings containing “panel”.
