Really hoping for some progress on this. My new phone is basically useless since nothing it optimized to use the extra processing power.

How's it looking for that?
VLC already has armv8 builds, and it should be based on ffmpeg too?

Kindly look at the date. My comment was made on Jan 2015. Lot has changes were made to NDK & ffmpeg as well. VLC has started supporting Arm v8 builds from the past few months.

I was able to play 1080p (mkv, DTS) video from my PC over the wifi without problem. But it only works with three conditions:
1) Custom Codec
2) set to SW acceleration (video and audio)
3) color set to 16bit

So optimization is needed.

I have Asus ZenFone 2 Laser ZE500KL

Any another player can not run it without lags...
If you have x86 you are out of luck man !
Dev section for that architecture on Android is far from any good. I don't think you'll find any codec optimised.. not from my anyway

According to the my previous conversation with the developer, there is an issue with gcc (from Android NDK) which leads to the failure while compiling ffmpeg.

He may build a x64 codec as soons it's fixed or he find a work around.

According to Google's Android 5.0 documentation, any app written purely in JAVA will be automatically compiled as 64bit. Gotta love Android :D

So now, all we need is a 64-bit ARMv8-A codec pack for MX.

Would be happy to have native ARMv8-A codecs available for my Nexus 6p :)

Well, seeing as how close Android L is to being released, I was wondering if there's a 64-bit MX Player in the works.
I believe that FFMPEG already has a 64-bit ARMv8-A optimised version.

I, personally, am planning to get a (64-bit) Nexus 9 as soon as its released.
I'd be willing to help/test as soon as I get my hands on one :)
