Got the same problem, I have poor reception, imei 0 on rom, correct imei in fastboot. Cell reception is bad and often interrupts. Trying a new provider now, seems to work a bit better...

You could all try this new method claimed to be working but as I have not lost my IMEI I can't say, please report back if it works for you?

http://xdaforums.com/moto-g/help/how-to-test-restore-lost-imei-imei0-t2860481

Doesn't seem do work...maybe reflashing stock without sim inserted works at some point, i tried it once but it didn't maybe, if you do it repeatedly...I read twice that it would. Just don't have the time to flash my phone over and over again.
In the meantime, i found "/proc/config/imei/", a folder in wich my imei is actually stored correctly. I also found reports of a file "/data/property/persist.radio.imei". I tried to set it by "cat [imei] > ..." but it didn't work.
Does this help any of you?

Do this completely at your own risk. (Mods if this is violating the rules, sorry, and feel free to remove it. I am just trying to help a user) You the owner agree to take full responsibility by using this method.

First go to bootloader mode. Type fastboot getvar all. Look for your imei. If your imei is listed in the command window: try reflashing stock firmware. Boot and your problem may be solved.

If your imei is 0 or if its blank or anything else, there is a command to manually set it. I can't post in this forum though because its against the rules.

I have found the solution!!!

In first, sorry for my BAD english. So:

1) Download Falcon XT1032 Kitkat ROM from here (I have download the OPMITIZED EU versione 4.4.4):
http://xdaforums.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-rom-collection-t2854688

2) You must have a RECOVERY and you have to flash the zip file at "1)". You can found a recovery here (download the GPE version):
http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=57672469&postcount=1

3) Download the version 2.6.1 from here (show older versions):
http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer

4) Install the APK. I don't know why but when i download the OPMITIZED version that has ROOT this is simple gone away. If you need, reflash it with this link: (versione 2.4.6):
http://www.andromods.com/download-files/get-latest-version-apk-flashable-zip-supersu.html

5) Install XPOSED framework from the app. After the reboot, download Phone ID Changer FREE.

6) Active the module in XPOSED and after the reboot inser your IMEI. Reboot another time.

Works for me. I hope for you, too.

Cannot believe my eyes!

Unfortunately my carrier cannot believe me either, phone still doesn't work. After a few minutes, mobile network gets disconnected.
Seems like the GSM system cannot be fooled such an easy way :(

Mine was fine for a couple of minutes, but no call was possible - no messages, no ringing echo.
After a few minutes went no-network.

off: after this failed action, I have tried to go back to my old Euphhoria ROM, but device didn't boot at all. Also tried complete oinstallation of GPE 5.1 - same result. Currently half bricked, not even recovery can be booted, only bootloader. :/ (the same state that resulted in lost IMEI back last year, after trying to revert 4.2 from OTA 4.4) I couldn't use the phone anyway, but it is still kinda pain in the ...
