Welcome to the stock backup thread.
Here you'll find all the stuff that you need for your M8.

What do we do here?

We want to provide stock backup's to return your HTC One M8 back to factory stock

Where do i find what?

There will be sections where you can find the necessary files.

* If you can't find the files you can also go here as it is a massive collection too ! Thanks to @ckpv5 !
* All TWRP recoveries available
* Stock backup's
* Additional Stuff

You want to provide us RUUs, OTA's and Firmwares ?
Thats a great decision.
Please only provide MEGA and Android File Host mirrors. Thanks.
Dropbox and other hosters will remove files, if they got downloaded to often.

Where do I find the correct files for my M8?

In cmd type: fastboot getvar all

You'll get something like this (I removed the unneeded stuff!):

Code:
C:#HTC ADB Fastboot>fastboot getvar all
< waiting for device >
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
(bootloader) version-main: 4.16.401.8
(bootloader) product: m8_ul
(bootloader) modelid: 0P6B10000
(bootloader) cidnum: HTC__102

Now you only have to compare these things with the files and you'll easily get your correct Backups and Firmware.

Note:

The following CID's are all WWE .401 CID's, so if there is a Backup from CID HTC__102 you still can use it on HTC__001.

Code:
cidnum: HTC__001
cidnum: HTC__J15
cidnum: HTC__E11
cidnum: HTC__203
cidnum: HTC__102
cidnum: HTC__405
cidnum: HTC__Y13

Q : How do i find the correct info on which stock nandroid i need for my device
A : You perform these fastboot commands to get the needed info

- fastboot getvar all (gives the whole devices info list)
- fastboot getvar version-main (gives only the main version number as output)
- fastboot oem readcid (gives only the CID as output)

Match the main version number and the cid with the nandroid backups and you will have the correct one !

Q : How do i restore the stock nandroid backup
A : In general :

- Place the nandroid backup unpacked on the sdcard of the phone in the right backup folder

* Philz touch uses - Clockworkmod\Backups\
* TWRP uses - TWRP\Backups\ or TWRP/Backups/serialnum/ (replace serialnum with your device's serial number. To have TWRP create the proper directory structure for you, just do a simple backup of just the boot partition and put the backup files in there) thanks to garyd9 for the additional info :)

- Flash the boot.img or boot.emmc.win file from the nandroid backup
- Make a full wipe in the recovery
- Restore the nandroid backup and reboot

Q : The restored nandroid backup is still rooted but i want to unroot it
A : Download this unsuperuser file and flash it via the custom recovery Thanks to jbeez & SaHiLzZ

Q : Can i apply an official HTC OTA on my stock rooted rom
A : Yes but the system apps (carrier branded apps included) has to be 100% intact

Q : Can i apply an official HTC OTA with a custom recovery
A : No you need your stock recovery (at least one that starts with the same base number)

Q : Are stock recoveries compatible to nandroid backups with other main and cid numbers to install official OTA's
A : At this point i believe so (it was on the hox) but they have to start with the same base (IMPORTANT!!!!!! THIS WON'T WORK WITH LOLLIPOP BASE RECOVERIES SEE HERE thanks @ckpv5

- Example :

stock recovery 1.12.771 is the same as 1.12.401
stock recovery 1.54.401 is the same as 1.54.206

Q : How do i flash a recovery.emmc.win file made by the TWRP recovery
A : you flash it with the following command :

- fastboot flash recovery recovery.emmc.win

Guaranteed method to update from 2.22.401.5 nand to 3.28.401.6 via ota thanks @ahsan64

Ahsan64 wrote this small guide HERE but was closed as it was a offshoot to this thread, nontheless i will politely take this up in this thread.

Thank you @ahsan64

NOTE :

This is ONLY for S-ON International(WWE) with base 2.22.401.xx users ....... If you have S-OFF just flash the 3.xx firmware .

I am seeing lots of people want to update their M8 to 3.28.401.x firmware/software but most of the CID's haven't recieved the official update yet so this guide will do that and counts for ALL these WWE CID's

So here is the solution to get OTA if you are S-ON with main version 2.22.401.xx . Although i tried it on 2.22.401.5 but it should work for all 2.22.401.xx .

Download this nand(official CID Y13) from HERE and restore it using TWRP recovery .Then flash the stock recovery from HERE .

Search for the update it should be available , download, install and enjoy the new software/firmware ......

NOTE :

The list of CID's posted below are all compatible with this small guide to 100% succes of updating the phone to 3.28.401.x

HTC__001
HTC__E11
HTC__102
HTC__203
HTC__405
HTC__Y13
HTC__304
HTC__A07
HTC__002
HTC__016
HTC__032
HTC__J15
HTC__M27
HTC__A48
HTC__K18

Nice idea mate :)

Allow me to be the first then:

stock_1.54.401.5_odexed_2014-04-05

MD5: 3662eefd13d583069ff98fc5c31b95e8

ODEXED

OS 1.54.401.5
HBOOT 3.16.0.0000
CID HTC__001
TWRP 2.7.0.3

Just to clarify, I've zipped the backup for ease of upload. Download the zip file, extract the folder that's inside and place that in your TWRP backup folder on your phone (sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/<device id>/), then boot into recovery and choose that backup from the list.

These are not firmwares. But nandroid backups. You push them to sdcard and restore. ONLY use if they match your cid mid..

We can't restore stock recovery with these backups though, could you include stock recovery in the OP with an unlocked boot loader it should be easy to pull it off the phone onto the SD Card. Anyone who wants to go to stock with any of these backups and have full OTA update capability will need stock recovery. Also system partition has to be fully untouched, so no root or anything.

I know that. As soon as i get them and the time i will provide the links. And as additional information.....you can update with root access and an unlocked bootloader as long as the rom is fully stock.

Don't worry i know what i am talking about here ;)

I just want to start collecting because it will be useful in the future. And the people that want to go back to their own stock rom with or without root can do that easily via this thread. So i hope many people will start uploading them !!!

Can we still use fastboot boot "revovery name" to make a stock backup? I thought they had locked out this command in the bootloader.....

Ah you mean to backup the stock HTC recovery, haven't tested that as i don't have the device yet. But i will when i get it. Also the stock recoveries will be available through firmwares and ota files.

Edit :

From what i have read it's still possible
