[GUIDE] Root your HTC Desire 816!

I decided to create a clean tutorial for those who want to root their HTC Desire 816! I will be editing it as new improvements appear.

Disclaimer - This will void your warranty and unlocking bootloader will also erase all your data in internal storage!

1. Install HTC Sync Manager

(Required because it packs in the drivers essential for PC to recognize the device)

http://www.htc.com/in/software/htc-sync-manager/

2. Unlock your phone's bootloader

Follow the steps listed here : http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
You need to select device model as "HTC One"(Don't worry, it all follows almost same steps)

3. Download and Install a custom recovery!

> Download your recovery exe file(I recommend it so that it doesn't causes any troubles for newbies) from here.
> Boot you phone into fastboot and run the exe file, it will install the recovery(CWM 6.0.4.7 as of the date of writing).
> Boot into recovery by selecting HBOOT(Select using Power button and scroll via volume keys)

4. Download and flash SuperSU!

> Download the latest SuperSU zip file from here!
> Place it in the root of your sd card(Internal or External, your choice)
> Boot into recovery and select "Install Zip from SD Card".
> Select where you kept the flashable zip(Internal/External storage)
> Select the file when it shows all your files and then select "Yes" to let it flash.
> After flashing completes, reboot!
> Use the wp_mod.ko module from here!
> ?
> Profit! You finally have a rooted HTC Desire 816! Yay!

Can i again unroot my htc desire 816 in case of warranty issues like to avail warranty services in future.. if yes then how.? Does the .exe setup have a unroot option too.

HTC Desire 816 rooting

I tried to unlock the boot loader but not working for me
My device HTC Desire 816/Dual sim
When i try to unlock there is not bootloader word when entering the fastboot mode i have instead HBOOT
Please advice by email: eihabo70@aim.com

Attacg your phone to PC, run adb reboot bootloader. Run the mentioned fast boot commands there.

Please be patient with me, I'm new to all of this and I need full procedures from A-Z in details if possible

who ever are geting problem with unlocking bootloader..check the unlocking videos of htc one m8..i did follow some videos and went on with the process and unlocked it...

From the Hboot screen, select recovery by changing the up-down arrows and hit the power button. It will take you to cwm recovery. Enjoy

does anyone know if this will also work on the htc desire 610? they have almost the same specs and run the same software (6.0, and 4.4.2 kitkat) i cant find a root method anywhere :/ thanks,

i dont want to try it as it may brick my phone and i dont have a spare one, my bootloader is unlocked through htcdev though. I dont know how to submit a request to open a new forum for desire 610, thank god im not the only one who has this phone, i cant find any info on it on the net anywhere, although tbf it only came out a few weeks ago...
