I have a problem with setting adaway up after updating to android 10
oneplus 7pro
magisk 20.1

I have magisk systemless hosts module enabled but still see adds in some apps, where there were none when I was on pie.
I did multiple reinstalations, cache clears but no success.
Any help will be apreciated. Thanks

Note that none of that matters if an app bypasses the hosts mechanism and calls a numeric IP directly, builds in their own ads or leverages a proxy. Those direct calls, common in some games, don't go through DNS at all and therefore can't be altered by AdAway or the hosts file. The same applies to processes that use an external DNS resolution scheme, such as the Chrome proxy ("reduce bandwidth usage") or the DNS bypass used by some ISPs (Satellite providers, for example).
Like the random ads that still come on in YouTube Vance...
It does work with A10. Start with, is the systemless hosts module installed in Magisk? Magisk manager -> settings -> tap on systemless hosts after install, reboot and try applying Adaway again.
What device?
Are you rooted with Magisk? Have you enabled systemless hosts in Magisk settings?

About the root access not requested, killfrra proposed a patch to no more try to find su binary from known paths but call it directly from PATH.
It is how work ChainFire's libsuper and topjohnwu's libsu so it should work. I just hope it won't break any compatibility (but I honestly don't think so).
I merged it and it should resolve root request. May be it remains some old su binary or broken link to it and the past behavior triggered the wrong one. I will rely on PATH now.
Changelog:
....
- Fix root not requested
- Improve support for systemless hosts Magisk module
- Update translations

Thanks, will try canary or roll back to older version of Magisk. There is a bug in Magisk Manager not prompting for root access upon the clean Magisk installation.
Reported many times in Magisk and Magisk Canary threads - unfortunately, people got bored bt answering to every new user, so please read/search some days back to find the workaround
Sorry, I don't recall cronology of (partial) fixes and workarounds anymore, was it fully fixed in the latest Canary, is it enough just to allow to MM to draw over the other apps, or is it (still) required to update Magisk over itself (same version), to get it fix the database access
PS: First of all, Systemless hosts must be enabled in MM
Thanks, I thought it was adaway. I'll try the older version or canary.MIUI has been particularly bad about having problems with the recent releases of Magisk. If canary doesn't help you, you could try an older release. Maybe 19.2-19.3. Those versions are prior to the "System as Root" changes.
Any adblocker app for non-rooted phone which don't drain much battery
Hi,

No problem here with AdAway 4.3.0 and Magisk Canary. Systemless hosts activated in MagiskManager.Adaway works now but on magisk 19.3
Cam I update magisk to latest version? Or I should stay.
If it helps, an example of that mistake of trying to run (non-rootable) two VPNs at a time would be to try to use both of these at the same time.Non root uses VPN, hence make sure you don't run another VPN in parallel
Followed the guide. It's simple enough until I try to find the hostname I am supposed to white list - there are probably 50 entries just clicking on one article. Plus the names don't give any clue what they are related to. I tried white-listing about a dozen different entries but none allowed the comments to be read. At this point it's still easier to turn off Adaway and scroll the articles then turn it back on when I'm done.Do it by logDNS. Check the Wiki:
Start the log and open your preferred site.
Whitelist what has to be whitelisted.
GitLab, like GitHub do not set LastModified HTTP header so update status is not supported... yet!Is anyone using a hosts list hosted on Gitlab? It keeps showing "Unknown update status".
It works well here. I failed to reproduce as I change the HTTP client library and how I use it.Hmm, not working for me for this URL, v4.1.0 shows something like not updated in -360 days (some large negative value). Can you please see if you can reproduce?

Not really. You could choose a lot of different mode. All the F-Droid apps I know of have manual push updates to the store.
Isn't automatic build basically for nightlies?
Thank you so much! :highfive:I exist still... do you know what i have to do to transfer ownership? if i edit project it doesn't let me change the primary author so i assume i have to PM some higher up to make this happen?
Thank you too!
