If you were upgrading to a new phone tomorrow. Would it be the sexy Nexus-S, with the beautiful Super AMOLED screen and stock Android, or a jailbreaked iPhone running custom themes and apps ?

I prefer Android lately, I have the EVO rooted with CM 6.1 and it is pretty darn cool. But my Brother currently has a 2yr old iPhone3G, and it is flaky and running like poo lately, he wants a new phone this week. I told him about the Nexus-S, and he is not to sure about going Android yet.

He said there are some cool features with a jailbroke iPhone 4 ? He likes the thinness of the new iPhone and great battery life, plus the screen res is amazing. To me the screen is too small for a cool smart phone, and no widgets blows, but that's what jailbreaking is for I guess.

opinions ??

Nexus S... Don't make a bad decision.

Are you reading more random things on the internet again and believing them? It's almost the exact same hardware as the Galaxy S. Don't tell me they changed the board to have lesser bandwidth just for the Nexus S.

That's from an Android developer ( http://twitter.com/dnaltews ), I wouldn't call it "random" :)

dnaltews @supercurio clock rate limitation of the SoC. Galaxy uses an external image processing part as a work around. Not enough PCB space in N.S.

We'll see soon enough. I remember something similar being said about the N1, though I can't find it because all I can find is links on the 720p fix for the N1.

Bumping an old thread, but anyone still spotty on this? I've been contemplating after getting my AT&T Nexus S and comparing it to the iPhone 4, but its seems like other than a few more games and larger storage, I actually am siding with the Nexus S.

there is no point getting the IP4, SNS is so much better in every way

specially SAMOLED
Android Market
All the apps you can ever dream of
not locked to itunes
you can sync and do anything you like with the phone
you can play any media file you want, not locked to itunes
etc...

and the list just goes on and on

Yes and I agree. I had my SNS listed but removed it. The only thing that's a plus for me with the iPhone at this point is its camera is superior. But ive been asking myself if loosing all that I like in android for a camera on a phone. Battery life used to be a big one too but id put the SNS at 90% of what the iPhone's battery can hold. As far as apps, there's a lot of fluff in the market thanks to wallpapers and ringtones being considered apps. However, of all the apps that i have on my iPhone, id only really miss Tiny Wings and PvZ. Admittedly though, I have an iPad 2 that will hold all of those.

Regardless of apps. Even though Android Market doesn't have the same number of apps. Everything you're looking for is available. If a particular app is paid, you don't have to pay for it, instead you can go for a alternative free version.

Remember, quality of apps > quantity. And open market ;) no restrictions

Almost every app that I want is here. Alternative keyboard / desktops are so much better.

ESPECIALLY when it comes to development. Rooting/flashing ROMs > jailbreak.

Yes. i was running the i9023 odin on my 9020A and it was flawless. good battery life and never had a force close on anything other than MIUI music. However, i couldn't get certain market apps, like paypal and ringlert. Any other suggestions for max battery life ROMs? currently on NSCOLLAB current version.

Hm. what carrier are you using? Try market enabler, you should be able to get those apps.

Max battery tips (hopefully j0hnz wont come here and troll me on the battery topic again):
- Use DARK Wallpapers (Super AMOLED doesn't use power when displaying black)
Various applications such as "XDA" have a skin to theme it black. Check settings for apps you use to see if there's a dark skin of it available.
- Brightness set to 0% (Maybe its too low for you, but I like it.. I find 0% to be still very bright).

okay... as expect of any iphone-ish topic it was bound to be a titanic

time to let it sink to the bottom of the forum floor

I'm on AT&T and tried market enabler as well as market access with Verizon and T-Mobile. No luck on either. there must be something deeper than just that with the i9023 backup. No matter, NScollab fixed it. :)

Oh okay. so it works now.
I edited my previous post with some tips for battery.

oh yeah.. if you have any apps that are syncing, set the intervals longer (1 hour+)

im seriously stunned at your biased post.
    1. VLC for iOS... HMMM. lets take a look at this, the App Store took this down because it violated rules or whatever. This blends in with Android Market, I think I prefer a market that has less restrictions on what can be put up on the market.

RockPlayer / MoboPlayer are good alternatives. If you have a regular Android phone, it most likely comes with the codecs, so THEREFORE you could use the stock video player and get the same thing, if not better.

VLC for Android is also in the works as well.

Oh yeah.. have fun watching videos on your 3.5" screen ;) I got 4" and 4.3"

    2. Open Market -> More customizations
Android is all about customizing the phone to you. Whereas iDevices look all the same.
    Quality of apps > Quantity.

    3. Whats a ratina? I've never heard of it ;)

    4. Voodoo Sound is on the same level as iPod/iPhone/iPad's sound, if not better.

In the end, Android will reign supreme. Why? Android is attacking iOS from all angles. Android is coming with a new phone / tablet every other week.
iOS? 1-2 devices per year (maybe just even 1).

and while im here lecturing about this. I hope you have a good morale about yourself buying iDevice products when people in China are being exploited to make your products -_-
    heres the latest post: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/world/jan-june11/china_04-13.html

e.g. child labor, poor working conditions

1- please read the OP.. nevermind. read the TITLE. its JAILBROKEN Iphone. meaning i am not stricked to itunes. Apple can take down whatever they want. as long as i can install it. i am fine with it. hell the whole Cydia is not in Itune.

at least, the VLC was free. Google took down N64 emulators plus others and people PAID For those. meaning if you switch your phone to newer one. you cant have your app that you PAID for it. google isnt different than apple in this regard. rules are rules. both google and apple saw something is illegal or wrong and they took it down. and no. app store is million times better than market place. but whatever

and please. please. please dont talk to me about rock player or Vplayer. i have used them both. the iphone 4 can play a 1080p Videos without any slowdown or hicups. the Atrix i used was dying while reading a 720p video. the nexus S was able play 720p but it was dying at 1080p. dont bring your rock player for your porno movies you download from netflix to determine what is a good player and what is not ;)

3- LoL. nice way to run from a bullet. but yeat. lets just say this is based on preferences. i love more high rex texture while others love better colors. both are good. both have negatives things.

4- no its not the same level as ipod. however i think the samsung galaxy S has better sound and 5.1 surround sound on than nexus S and iphone.

and looooooooooooooooool @ giving me a morale advice about buying an electronic device made in china because people in china have a crysis. yuh... umm. i am not supporting them when i am buying their factory product ? maybe we should all stop buying from china then and they close the factories and have bigger crysis ?

    dude wtf
regarding who DO you THINK will win or not is a different topic that i am not intrested to go to.

and btw. regarding apple releasing a phone every year is what makes apple fans loyal to them. and getting more and more people to join apple. because they wont feel cheated and left out when you spend you hard earned money on a phone just to find out the next week that a newer better model coming in 1 month.

so yeah. what you said is negative not a positive thing.

i think iOS has way more QUALITY apps than android, that run smoother and crash less. but i think the android vs iOS decision comes down to one thing: are you willing to play apple's constant cat and mouse game of sealing jailbreak exploits? or would you rather have slightly inferior apps but a much more customizable phone experience?

P.S. MOST big apps are there on both platforms anyway, so it's not a matter of function, but iphone apps almost always seem to run smoother than their android counterpart. Owning an iDevice and a Nexus, I almost never touch my Nexus for gaming/apps if my iDevice is nearby
