Thanks for the guide! I helped me a lot on understanding the Defy and Android's internals.
Also, it helped me on a problem that had been bugging me since I began using Cyanogenmod 7: WiFi dropouts. My connection would often freeze, even thought the WiFi icon on the top was still visible. I had to disable and reenable WiFi to get it working again.
After I flashed the recommended 3.4.2-179 CEE Deblur SBF, the problem seems to be mostly gone, at least on 802.11
g networks. It still happens a lot on 802.11n, so I disabled it following these steps:
1. Use the Root explorer, open this file path: “/etc/wifi/”,
2. Use the file editor to open the “tiwlan.ini”.
3. Find this two lines below, change the value if it is not 0.
HT_Enable = 0 # 0=diable 802.11n support
BurstModeEnable = 0 # 0 - Disabled 1 - Enabled
4. Save the file, then reboot your Defy.
(Can't link the source because I'm new to the forum ¬¬)
Funny enough, I first tried a "fixed" SBF + the nandroid backup and it didn't help at all. Only the full SBF fixed it for me.
I'm still having dropouts when trying to copy files through SSH. But at least I can finally download large files and watch Youtube again.
Edit: I rolled back to stock 2.2.2 for testing purposes and found out both SSHdroid and 802.11n networks work just fine.
