Downloaded this from but auto screen brightness doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas?

What do you mean it does not work?

It does not work at all?

Please explain more, so I can try to help you. :)

Try covering the light sensor on the top left hand of your phone, and see if the screen dims at all. If it doesn't then, you should probably re-flash the kernel. Did you wipe before flashing VI? Wiping is pretty much a mandatory step, it has solved many issues for many users.

Try re-flashing the kernel first, and then if this does not work, wipe everything, and start from scratch.

Auto-brightness does work well enough in this ROM even though it is not perfect. However, a known issue is when playing video, the on-screen brightness changes according to the video content rather than the light sensor / static brightness level. (This MAY be fixed in the next release, although don't quote me on it.)

I don't know which one came with this rom. Also as I said even with the stock kernel like I said I still didn't get buttery smooth scrolling it was just way better than it is now. Also this has to be a bigger problem since I have never had buttery smooth home screen scrolling on my sensation no matter what rom I have used. I want to fix the root problem since other people say they don't have this issue with there phone. Also this is my third sensation to have this issue so I don't think its the phone. I have used stock aosp roms and sense 4 roms and even cm7 and it was the same issue. If wallpaper scrolling is enabled I will either get major lag or maybe just a little lag but never consistent buttery smooth scrolling. I can't find anybody that can help me fix this issue permanently or even anybody else that has the same issue as consistent as I due that's what's frustrating and makes me hate my phone.

Since it's the same problem no matter what rom and kernel you're using, I think you need to check these:
How many home screens do you have?
How many icons and widgets do you have on them?
How big is the wallpaper you're using?

Try using different wallpaper, remove widgets, decrease number of screens.. I'm pretty sure one of those will do the trick.

Hey Socali,

I was flashing your ultimate quad lock v35, and I'm noticing that if you select this path:

\ultimate-quadlock-v35-vi401-socali.zip\lock-yes\vol-no-notify-yes\mms-aosp The notification pull-down is still disabled even though it shouldn't be based on the options selected.

I went ahead and flashed \ultimate-quadlock-v35-vi401-socali.zip\lock-yes\vol-yes-notify-yes\mms-aosp instead and there's no issue anymore.

Just wanted to give you a heads-up! Keep up the good work, you keep this ROM running smooth for me. :)

Interesting catch! I will fix it soon.

---
Hey socali would the script to fix freezing also work when using other kernels? Or is it just ROM modifications?

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using xda premium

The script is removing rom related scripts, will work with all kernels.

---

Thank you! This is very helpful, since I never got this issue.
I will try to post a fix soon.

Thanks for your reply dude. I didn't see it. I reflashed the rom and kernel and all is good now.

By not work, I meant it would be stuck on full brightness when set to auto weather the sensor was covered or not.

I've found another bug with the launcher. For some reason every now and again my 5 quick access apps at the bottom keep dissapearing, reloading nova sorts it though.

Are you sure you aren't just swiping to a different "quick access" (dock) panel? By default it has 3 pages of dock. The ones to the left and right are just blank til you add apps.

Weird issue with quad lock. Both camera and phone open the camera and both mms and unlock, unlock :/

I think you flashed the Service Pack after the Quad Lock.. Reflashing the quad lock should fix it.

You can also prevent this from happening by going to Nova settings -> Dock -> Dock pages -> 1

Phone FC Fix for VI 4.0.1 by Socali

Phone FC Fix for VI 4.0.1 by Socali

This is a fix to the random Phone FC (crash), based on a logcat captured by Shagman68.
Since I do not experience this crash myself, please test and report back.

Download Flashable: phone-fc-fix-vi401-socali.zip
md5sum: 76c401ebc030e050d7d6f25277c4cdb4

EDIT: Original fix had a cosmetic issue with notification background color (as designed, but I did not like it). Please download and flash again.

This is the result of hours of effort researching, fixing and testing. You're welcome! :)

Nice work again! How did you end up resolving it in smali? As in, what was the technical solution, really curious. Also, ping me offline if you can, would like to discuss something with you.

Cheers. :)

Thanks!
This is what I noticed in the logcat:
E/AndroidRuntime( 7683): android.app.RemoteServiceException: Bad notification posted from package com.android.phone: Couldn't expand RemoteViews for: StatusBarNotification(package=com.android.phone id=1 tag=null notification=Notification(contentView=com.android.phone/0x1090098 vibrate=null,sound=nullnull,defaults=0x4,flags=0x11) priority=0)

The kicker was that the exception comes from systemui, not from the phone itself.. I think Shnizlon missed it when he ported it over (like the USB dialog messages). I'm not 100% sure this is the only root cause, as there are other errors there, but that was the fatal one.

After fixing that, I got gray background on some of the notifications.. What's interesting is that it seems to be as-designed. Hopefully I didn't break anybody's notification that will now be black text on black background.

Forgive me if this is already the case. Socali, can you start thread with all of your VI fixes/mods? It's hard to find them sometimes.

Virtuous Inquisition is a an ICS (4.0.3) Senseless ROM, meaning essentially all Sense components have been removed in favor of their AOSP counterparts. Everything except the camera app has been replaced. Any work, such as mods or fixes, you would like to contribute would be gladly accepted. The project has one goal, to provide a ROM which is as close-to-AOSP-ICS as possible.

    • Based off the HTC 3.32.401.5 *release* base.

    • Sense has effectively been removed. Some components may be coming back (such as the camera and music player), as they are better than their AOSP counterparts. I'll provide an option for purists who want AOSP-only-no-matter-what.

    • Remaining HTC framework beautifully themed to match ICS by shnizlon.

    • Stock kernel, not overclocked.

    • Pre-rooted with the latest version of Superuser and modified ramdisk to allow adb remount, mock locations, etc.

    • IO optimizations including the use of ext4 with writeback journaling for all mounts and larger read-ahead buffer for improved sdcard performance.

    • Automated battery calibration. Just plug your phone in after a wipe and charge it to full (preferably overnight), then let our script do the rest.

    • Over the air updates via ROM Manager.

    VI 4.0.2 Goodies by Socali

This post will kept updated with Fixes / Patches / Notes for VI 4.0.2 by Socali

Important Kernel Files Reset for VI 4.0.2 by Socali

SebastianFM Kernel v1.4.1, which is included with VI 4.0.2, comes with Sebastian's own thermald.
This thermald includes, in my opinion, extremely high temps settings. The problem is that those settings are hard-coded and are not read from the thermald.conf file.
Other kernels are expecting the default thermald and not this custom one, so they are not overwriting it.

I strongly recommend flashing this before flashing any other kernel. Even in-between flashing different kernels, as different kernels might include other files that need to be replaced/removed.
This patch will reset kernel related files that exist in the ROM's partition to the original HTC v3.32 default files.
This does not include an actual kernel - you must flash a kernel after this patch and before rebooting the phone.

Sebastian Kernel v1.30.2 Underclocked to 1.242Mhz for VI 4.0.2 by Socali

(This is the same kernel posted by me before, but in a new package that includes the Kernel Reset Patch, so you can simply download and flash one file.)

This is Sebastian Kernel v1.30.2 hexedited by me to underclock it to 1.242Mhz with a safer (or more conservative) thermald.conf file.
This gives you kernel closest to the original HTC v3.32 one with Sebastian's MultiTouch fix and ZRAM support.
I prefer keeping the CPU clock at 1.2mhz so that the CPU stays stable and cool and doesn't drain the battery as quickly.
I hexedited it instead of recompiling so that I stay as close as possible to Sebastian's build.

Note: This kernel will give you lower benchmark scores (about 5700-5800 AnTuTu score on my phone). This is not a bug, it's a feature..

    Download flashable: kernel-v1.30.2-uc-1.242mhz-socali.zip
