V6 is really stable and it flows with no lag.

I'm trying to download version 5 and it keeps going bk to 0% after getting to about 8-12%? Is there an alternate mirror is is it my internet?

Hello guys, sorry if there isn't much update details in a while! :)

Anyways, v7 will be based on Samsung 4.2.x firmware whenever its released.
I'm personally still satisfied with v6 and see no reasons to make a new rom based on 4.1.2 with nothing new!

I've set up a poll so you can vote for the features in v7. Though poll results will not completely affect the final outcome of v7!

I had a weird incident yesterday, the phone had been running fine all day but the wifi suddenly changed from 'on' to 'switching on' all by itself. I couldn't get the wifi to change status so reset the phone. It then stuck on the initial boot loader screen and wouldn't progress onto the Samsung animation. A battery pull didn't help but recovery was still okay, I formatted system, data and caches then restored a nandroid of v6.

It's been fine ever since, I've reset a couple of times to check, but this is the first hiccup this phone has had - it doesn't sound like SDS to me, anyone have an idea what could have caused this?

What's the point of including into rom stuff from google play? Is it so hard to download YouTube and maps?

If it turns out good I will make an VikingWay v7 Preview/Beta.

Stay tuned and vote the feature poll! :)

EDIT 2: Changed my mind again... the v7 release preview could use some testing and thoughts after all! It is "done" anyways so why keep the 4.2 preview experience to myself. ;)

Well, I guess most users, incl. me, like these apps and its just another step installing separately rather than have these apps from the start. Thats why you can tell in the poll if you want to save some size or get these apps from start.

I know it kinda conflicts with the "slim idea" of VikingWay but if major users want them I don't mind including the apps.

We'll see when I've made up my mind how v7 will turn out :)

EDIT: There will be no preview release - even though leak works ok.
I will wait for official release or an leak that feels more complete... though I might be wrong but it feels like Samsung havent added all stuff for 4.2 update yet.

i agree with you and i think you should add svoice v7 because voice control getting FC without it. thanks for good news.

v7 RP will not have any detailed changelog and the release does not count as a normal & polished release! Its for testing purposes but should work great.

- After some votes the poll gave me some statistics of what users want. Its always a mess to consider what / what NOT to include when both choices are equal in my head.
- Equal voting on keep/remove will keep the stock stuff since the 3rd party apps can be easily installed from Play Store!

v7 RP info:
- FC in settings when pressing Voice Control options (Kinda obvious eh? ;)
- Samsung account is now removed which causes "Settings > Safety > SIM card change warning" option to FC.
- By default android 4.2 creates a "0" folder within internal SD card folder where Android puts all new 4.2 stuff, which means stuff from 4.1 will be "hidden".
- No extended power menu yet. You'll have to enter recovery the pro way. :cool:

4.2 Leak impressions:
- Home button does not exit current app when screen turns off. Yay, finally!
- Lockscreen water ripple grey tint seems to be gone. Yay, finally x2!
- Bright & white statsbar icons. Not all have changed yet though. I think Samsung is on their way to make them all white for 4.2
- Statusbar auto brightness control is improved. Also the damn little dot is sharp as it should be!
- Some apk's size is reduced, which is a good thing.
- Overall on the right way!

4.2 Leak fails:
- Samsung keyboard still doesn't auto correct words. Has been like that since JB update, on ICS it worked perfect...
- No app quick shortcuts or extended settings for lockscreen. (Atleast not yet.)
- Statusbar quick toggles order can not be changed. (Atleast not yet.)
- No official flashlight / torch toggle yet. I see no reason why Samsung haven't added this function yet...
- S Planner FC's.

Please, make a small rom without a lot of things from samsung, there are a lot of rom with full samsung and other apps but not a lot with a small clean good rom :cool:

Maybe, you can have some zip that we can install in cwm with samsung parts like touchwiz, smemo, yahoo, etc...
It make more job but also more user of the rom with only what we need.
As i can see on the pool, there are more people with remove vote for all samsung app !

    I have bought a new phone (Xperia Z) so VikingWay for I9300 is now discontinued. I would like to thank everyone that enjoyed VikingWay on the SGS3! :)

    VikingWay is a light & fast rom that focuses on keeping the greatest parts of the stock experience and functionality.
    Everything that I consider as bloatware or crap is removed and I personally think it gives the rom an amazing clean feeling.
    With all crap removed, VikingWay is among the lightest Samsung firmware based roms avaliable - but fully functional and stable for daily use.
    I'm personally NOT that interested in modding the rom like a freak and apply tons of tweaks. I think Samsung did most of it really good!
    I just don't like all the extra crap that is forced upon the user. VikingWay leaves you at a truly clean scratch with some "schoolsux touches"!!
    Mod whatever you like yourself or enjoy VikingWay just as it is - simple and slim with stock solid quality. :D

    1. Download base rom and latest update if there is any!
    2. Copy downloaded zip(s) to phone internal/external sd card.
    3. Google how to root your SGS3 and install recovery using Odin.
    4. Reboot into custom recovery and do a full wipe.
    5a. Wipe cache and dalvik if you have a previous version of VikingWay installed.
    5b. Full wipe is always recommended for best experience, especially if coming from another rom its necessary!
    6. Flash VikingWay rom using latest ClockworkMod recovery and then any updates on top of it.
    7. Done & enjoy VikingWay! :)

    * Samsung Keyboard does not auto-correct words. Contact Samsung support and tell them!
    (Problem is across all Samsung 4.1.2 Jellybean roms!)
    * Home button wake and exit current app. (Use power button or Smart Stay for now).
    (Also a problem across all roms when S Voice is disabled.)

    This rom is based on stock Samsung Jellybean firmware!
    By my experience rom runs overall great, but I'm just a single person and I don't try out all the stuff you might do.
    If you find something that is not caused by you trying to modify something, provide feedback to make this rom better! I don't say no to a possible soultion either!     :)

    - Pretty much v6 style.
    - Rebase on XXEMB5 firmware!
    - XXEMB5 modem and kernel.
    - Rom size reducement.
    - 1% battery mod and black statusbar.
    - Removed some more crap. Thanks to Theshawty!
    - Removed another lib that proved to be useless.
    - Fixed rom default wallpaper.
    - Reduced Settings.apk size.
    - Some changes due to poll feedback.
    - Added missing Android 4.2 clock widget, that was included in previous versions!

    - Attempt to reduce lockscreen "grey tint overlay" apperaring on some darker lockscreen wallpapers when water ripple is enabled.
    - Statusbar dropdown "button" is now grey instead of blue to fit the white/grey quicktoggles.

    * Includes v5.1 changes.
    * No wipe needed.​

    VikingWay v5.1 Update

    - Added modded phone with call recording and no incr. ringtone.
    - Removed 2 unneeded apps.

    * Flash over v5 base, no wipe needed!​

    VikingWay v5

    - Rebase on official XXELLC 4.1.2 firmware!
    - XXELLC kernel and XXELL4 nordic modem.
    - When screen just turn off home button does not exit current app anymore!
    - Flashlight on lockscreen returns! (Hold home button on lockscreen.)
    - Exit and kill current app by holding menu. If on home - launcher will not be killed, only search as usual!
    - Samsung bootanimation just to get the "complete feeling". (Custom bootanimation is so easy to install anyway.)
    - Hold volume button to skip track when screen is off. (Tested with stock music player.)

    * Solid and clean as usual, v5 is the best rom build I ever made.
    * Flash over v3-v4 should work, but to get optimal performance a full wipe is recommended as usual!
    * md5 info moved to download section.​

    VikingWay v4.1 Update

    - Centered the statusbar clock and made it a little bit brighter.
    - Made the statusbar icons brighter as well.
    - Added Extended Power Menu.

    * No wipe needed, flash on top of v4 base.​

    VikingWay v4 (XXELLA)

    - Rebase on official Samsung 4.1.2 XXELLA firmware!
    - Kernel and modem that came with XELLA firmware.
    - Grey quicktoggles again.
    - Black statusbar.
    - Removed the 2 new chat bubbles, old modded ones looks better.
    - Removed another lib that seems to be unused & useless.
    - Nexus custom bootanimation.
    - Some other minor changes I don't remember.

    * This rom does not include the new bootloader!
    * I didn't flash the new bootloader yet while testing & running this, just so you know ;)​

    Pretty much same as v8, tested an automated script I made optimizing the basic stuff, saving alot of time.
    This is only reason I updated to new base, since I was half way there already.

    Uploaded rom within a minute with my new Internet, instead of 3 hours hehe :D
