What I was waiting for, but how comes it's 10 MB less in size than all the other KANGs?

I deleted the themes (not the theme chooser), my kernel is 1mb smaller due to xz compression & I recompressed it. No Google apps or any other additions.

I replaced the kernel, the wifi driver, dhcpcd & edited apps2sd to use faster mount options. Deleted 2 themes. Copied proprietary files from nightly 257. No other changes. Patches complete up until this morning, no unmerged patches.

It was just a rush job, it works very well, but I'll make it a little bit better in a few days.

I've a brand new ZTE Blade (P729V) with was provided with android 2.2. Now I've root with CWM 5.0.2.0, Kang 7.2.0 24feb build of sej and wbaw kernel 120223a all for Gen2 working. Before I did anyting with TPT, Mr Pigfish says I've a Gen2 phone.

So far, so good. But i've from beginning (also before I got root) smallband version p729bb01. I've read that's from Gen1 phones, but I didn't change anything on smallband.

I update succesfully from Windows (cause image/image.bin is method is not running) Gen2 160mb system v10 custom firmware but smallband stays on p729bb01

What's happening here?

I read everywhere (like here) that baseband p729bb01 is linked tot Gen1's. And that p729b01 is the new radio which is from gen2.

Only bug i found is that my camera is up side down. But maybe that's wbaw's kernel related.

Edit: found a guy with P729B01 and Gen1 by default, so everything is maybe possible. But still the question is, how to update if this is a real update?

That's indeed strange, I just checked, because I have one GEN1-toGEN2-converted Blade, and another one still GEN1 with the stock 2.1 software on it here, and both show baseband P729BB01.

wbaw, what should the actual GEN2 baseband version be? I have used your Gen1-to-Gen2-TPT-v10-custom.zip file to convert my first Blade, and since it seems to be working with your kernel and the latest CM7.2-RC0 based KANGs, I guess the conversion was successful, except the shown baseband version.

If P729BB01 is indeed the wrong baseband version for GEN2, how could I fix that problem now, since it is already GEN2-converted?

Well, I don't know if this is related to the fact that my gf's phone is a chinese Blade with 256MB ram only but...

I've tried wbaw's latest build (cm-7.2.0-blade-KANG-wbaw-120225.zip) and then I couldn't connect to wifi. I've tried forgetting my network and re-register but still couldn't connect. Wifi setting shows 'connecting' than quickly returns to 'disconnected' and I never see the wifi signal bars on the statusbar.

Then I reverted to Feb18th build from burstlam (wifi ok) and tried wbaw's (boot-wbaw-cm7-gen2-blade120223a.zip) kernel: same wifi problem.

Lastly, I've tried targetbsp's latest 'vanilla' (no special kernel) build and wifi was fine again. BUT, I have the same problems that I have on burstlam with or without wbaw's boot-wbaw-cm7-gen2-blade-120222.zip kernel: battery drains very quickly with any very moderate use --> it can easily go down 30% per hour and the numbers reported by Battery Widget Monitor on Temperature and battery level in standby mode don't make any sense.

When I've mentioned that I wanted "solid numbers'' earlier, I meant to collect more solid proof explaining/showing those problems. I still don't have them since I want to make sure that I go through a couple full battery cycle charges before drawing any real conclusion here. But that being said, I'm attaching a couple screenshots showing my issues anyway. It is impossible that with the phone in standby, the temperature goes crazy like that (the phone isn't hot either) and it is also almost impossible that the battery can stay at 100% for 8 hours following a full charge...

Any clue on what could be the issue here?

I could suspect that the battery monitor application is not reading things properly, but it works very well with my Defy on cm7 and this wouldn't deny the fact that the battery can drain 30% per hours on light usage and that it stays unchanged for hours in stanby...

Battery is 1250mAh (less than the 1540mAh of my Defy) but still, 30% an hour is just insane; I get about 15%-18% max while playing Grand Theft Auto 3 on my phone... And she has almost nothing installed on her phone; maybe just 6-8 apps...

Thanks.

New official cm7 nightly build out: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=blade

[] AL []: The battery temperature readings don't work when the phone is asleep, it's a zte bug, affects all blades on all roms. The official fix is to ignore it.

OK thanks: good to know!
That might partially explain the major battery drains I observe; if the phone is in standby for a long time and then used, the reported battery level would then catch up for what it has lost in standby...but still seems extreme nevertheless...

I will keep digging; it's just hard for me to get a hold on the gf's phone. for extended periods..

And btw, I did try battery stats wipe and i have yet to go through logcats and use cpuspy to see if the phone properly goes into deepsleep (which would seems like it does...) or if there are any wakelock problems.

Her phone is on 2G only-no data with DroidWall blocking any unwanted wifi data throughput and display is fixed (no-auto) at 20%.

Who's the new build from?
Any words on why I couldn't get wifi running with your Feb25th build and/or previous kernel?

Thanks again.

Later edit:

And btw, re. what you said is a cm7 bug: I do not get any bootanimation restart on burstslam's or targetbsp's builds but do get it on every boot (not just the fisrt one after kang installation) when using your builds or kernels..

The new build is from CyanogenMod, back in the old days (before last November) they used to do an automatic build nearly every night for download & call it a nightly build. Then they had server issues. Now they've collected donations & got a new server. That is the first Blade CM7 nightly build since.

No idea about your wifi. Logs might help. Have you tried GSF? Does your wifi work on that? Does my 22nd of Feb CM7 kernel work after full wipe & reinstall of rom? http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=22818182&postcount=61

New kernel, cm7 gen2 only again. This needs testing, lots of updates since yesterday. New wifi driver included too.

    Download: http://depositfiles.com/files/4rgcrjy2a
    MD5: 33db29965ea4854f8d8cce0dc60b3817

Source code available on my github here: https://github.com/John-Kenney/zte-turies-35/

It's been updated with the latest zte source code released yesterday. Plus a bunch of bluetooth patches (seems to be little effect), more overclocking, updated wifi driver & a few other minor updates... full list is here: https://github.com/John-Kenney/zte-turies-35/commits/master

It particularly needs testing if you have a new blade & any hardware doesn't usually work properly in cm7 (camera, touchscreen, sensors).

Thanks for the info, where can we get this kernel?

Send from my awsome ZTE Blade!

You can get Burstlam's kernel from his github here: https://github.com/burstlam/zte-turies-35

Or I forked his kernel & added some more patches, like updating the ondemand cpu governor, a few small performance improvements, a lot of networking patches that don't really do much & some other not very interesting stuff, mine is here: https://github.com/John-Kenney/zte-turies-35

Tom Giordano maintains the CM7 blade kernel, his version is here: https://github.com/TomGiordano/kernel_zte_blade

Burstlam & Tom G's kernel were developed separately using the same zte source code & then adding different patches, although they share a lot of patches. Burstlam has added a few more performance related & memory saving patches because his roms are developed mainly for Chinese users who have 256mb ram blades. Tom G seems more cautious about adding patches unless they're really necessary for something. I just add everything I can on top of Burstlam's kernel to see what works.

[] AL []: You're probably better of with burstlam's kernel than sej's, burstlam is using undervolting too & he's added a lot of fairly useful patches that wont get accepted in Tom's cm7 kernel (which sej's is based on).
