Yeah, if you notice the people with battery issues. The phone never sleeps. Henc phone gets hot. Thats why I am asking people to use programs to see what is keeping it awake.

I agree with you about all the CPU apps, etc. Who says they are accurate to being with? Im sure this is 3rd party software and a combination of kernel changes. Im positive at this point.

Not to be a contrarian :) but I'm convinced it's all kernel related at this point, not kernel + 3rd party apps (well, 3rd party apps could make it worse I suppose, but I believe the primary issue is with the kernel). Summary of my experiences:

1 - I am experiencing a much higher degree/faster battery drain than any GB ROM I've ever used. I've tried to duplicate my GB setup as much as possible on this ROM in terms of de-bloat, etc. I know it's still not apples-to-apples

2 - I experienced this battery drain immediately after flashing the ROM (and I did reset/wipe/flash kernel per OP instructions), and continue to experience it. The first couple days I was basically running this ROM stock (i.e. few if any 3rd party apps installed, and those that were installed weren't running in the background)

3 - My phone *is* sleeping appropriately

4 - My phone has *never* gotten exceptionally hot (though I don't really play games or anything that would normally tax the CPU/GPU)

5 - I only installed 3rd party CPU monitor apps after I had been experiencing the rapid battery drain for a couple days, and they all basically say the same thing. I didn't know that the accuracy of these apps was in question, all I can say is that the data presented by these apps seems to explain the performance I was already seeing

AND... I can replicate the battery performance of *both* those with good battery performance *and* those with bad battery performance:

6 - If I use my phone "lightly", I still can get very good battery performance, similar to what I was seeing on GB ROMs, which seems to match up with some of the screenshots of good battery life in this thread (most of those screenshots show very light usage)

7 - If I use my phone medium-to-heavy, I get insanely rapid battery drain. I'm talking 2-3x faster drain than on GB ROMs, which seems to match up with some of the screen shots of bad battery life in this thread

Summary (and I could be totally wrong): the battery is fine for me when the screen is off, it's what I've come to expect. When the screen is on though (even for something as simple as texting, emailing, surfing, etc.), this kernel kills battery faster than any I've seen. I do think it's possible that some users also have 3rd party apps installed which are keeping the phone from sleeping, which of course makes matters even worse.

I think this ROM is awesome Scott and I will continue to use it - thanks for putting this together for the community. I personally don't think these issues have anything to do with the ROM.

I have ran a freshly flashed Tim with nothing installed. Left it alone for 30min and checking every ten minutes and temps were at 120. But it's not this roms fault. It's ICS(new build)+ ota but not 100%. I feel this needs it's own separate thread to troubleshoot. Stop cluttering up this thread. :)

Hit me up too if you want to talk about aroma.

edit: Yeah talk to me tonight because I ordered a PS Vita tonight which will be here tomorrow night (Amazon prime FTW) so I will be distracted by that once I get it lol.

I think these are great observations and I will add them to my notes but...

Edited: I read what you said wrong and agree about 3rd party apps making it worse.

Your observations also confirmed a suspicion that I had... I am also convinced we have two completely separate issues. A heat issue and battery issue. And I also thought right away they may not be related. Your ntoes seem to indicate my theory.

Keep 'em coming...

At this point I am pretty sure there is nothing I can do to fix this except sit and wait for new leak... But so far I am extermeley happy wiht this build.

Also, I am hesistant to say this btu I think its a minority having these problems. Think about it like this....

1500 downloads in 3 days. Of that the frist 1,000 were in about 36 hours or so. maybe 20 people with the issue. Mathematically that puts us at about 1.3% of people reporting any type of issue like this.

I know those are not hard statistics because it does not account for those that... 1. Download the RMO more than once because they deleted it, etc... and 2. Does not account for the fact that not everyone can / will post.

I am getting phenomenal battery life when the phone is in my pocket. But it does drop quickly when I am actively using it, so there is an issue there that is due to the kernel.

However, I think people's sleeping issues are random. My battery dies within 4-5 hours of "sleeping" on Joel's rom because it never sleeps. Other people don't have that issue.

So well I may have found the problem. Under display settings I had sleep set to never off haha. I'm not as much of a n00b as that post made me look like haha.

Yeah flash over buddy, and to make your life easier, heres the both zips, Joelz file and original file from your rom, its just one lib being replaced, libaudcal.so, that's it.

Thanks for posting that. I had read someone mention it in another thread then hunted it down in the BAMF .9. Thank you to Joel for the fix :)

So if I want to flash from clean rom 1.5.5 to this rom is it just the wipe all the usuall and then flash Rom and then flash the Kernel/boot image. I read the OP just wanted to make sure.

Yes. Be warned. I know care more about battery than anything and some people report run away battery so be warned now. Other than that this ROM is as near perfect as possible. In every way shape or form. Battery issues do not affect everyone. BUt i know that your need for battery is important (if I remember correctly?).

Wow Scott good memory. I have read all the Posts in this thread and relize what your saying. I really want to give this rom a try. So to go back if I need to it looks as easy as reflash remove the pbXXX file and reflash the kernel and boot again is that all?
Thanks for all your hard work.

    Alternate Kernels

I have created a flashable 3.13.607.5 Kernel and a flashable 3.14.605.5 Kernel for the ROM.

Some people feel that the 3.13.607.5 kernel gave better battery and cooling than the latest kernel.

Feel free to download and test for yourself!

These are in old school method as to make one simple step for everyone. This also resets mainver to 1.00.000.0 :D

    Instructions
    1. Download to root of SD Card
    2. Reboot to Recovery
    3. Flash Zip
    4. Phone will reboot to hboot
    5. Press power one time so it will scan the SD Card
    6. Install boot.img when prompted
    7. Reboot when prompted

    Download the 3.13.605.7 kernel HERE

    Download the 3.14.605.5 kernel HERE

Np. Not trying to bite your head off or anything, but wipe is always almost recommended.

You get to go off on someone and get a thanks for that.

I post a killer ROM and then a mirror by request and I get **** :(

700+ downloads in 7 hours and I have 12 thanks. Im not complaining... But really?
