Cache.xml

I was looking at my cached cache.xml files today, trying to manually add in some way points that I'd calculated so they would be easier to use in the field, and noticed that the cache description seems to be stored twice. Once in the element <GCz_short_description> and then immeadiatley again in the element <GCz_description>. They both look to contain exactly the same data.. one certainly doesn't appear any shorter than the other

Are both elements actually required since its making the cache files much bigger than they need to be.

Not so weird in fact

I suppose that the displaying and saving are done by two different modules. The displaying by some kind of "embedded pocket internet explorer" and the saving by some kind of parser or regular expression analyzer. As the syntax is not exactly the same for each image the parser doesn't recognize all the images as valid images to save, yet as the syntax is still correct the "embedded PIE" can display them

As downloading images can use a lot of bandwidth and data plans are often limited, could you please add a checkbox in the "Download all caches" screen under the "skip already downloaded caches" checkbox :

[x] skip already downloaded images

that would allow to don't download again images if already saved even if you download the cache again. Yet the "reload cache" menu for a single cache could still allow to download the image again if necessary

I have a Htc Touch Diamond and everytime I press the go button the internet connection(which is off) doesn't start up automatically. And I checked even if I turn it on manually i still get the "Connection failed" error message.
What could I do?

I dont know what i have to do.
Im from Germany.
I use Vodafone Internet Flat.
To use this i have to login over a Proxy server.
This is 139.7.29.1 and the Port is 80.
When i dont go over this proxy i have to pay xtra.
Can i use the programm gcz???
When i use the proxy settings in the programm
it cant be login in the internet.

Please, please help

I'm on T-Mobile in the UK and used to get a similar behaviour, I had to turn off the t-mobile proxy settings to get it to work for me. Check your connection setting and see if its using a proxy..

1) Settings --> Connections --> Connections --> Advanced
2) Click "Select Networks".
3) The top drop down list is for "Programs that connect
to the internet" and it said "T-Mobile Internet".
4) Click "EDIT".
5) Goto the "Proxy Settings" tab. Untick second tick box that says
"This network uses a proxy serverto connect to the internet".

Are you sure you should be entering the proxy settings in GCz , if your service provider expects you to route all the internet traffic through its proxy then it would be set up in the connection settings of the phone itsef, not in each application.

Check if your settings in winmobile have the proxy set to 139.7.29.1

If they do then remove the proxy settings in GCz and try again.

Having said that, I had to disable the t-mobile transparent proxy to get it to work for me, so it may be that its just not possible for you

Dear Thad,

Finally I Download SEARCH_HEADER_320.png from postcount 736, that's Tom's special offer for Palm Treo Pro.
I Modified the setting of 320x320.txt acorrding to Tom's advice.
And I use those two files, SEARCH_HEADER_320.png and 320x320.txt, to replace the orignal files.
The final screenshot is as attached.

For the "0" before dot issue.
Where do you see it? GPS Monitor?

I can not reproduce it "with manage_gps_autom.txt" log file.

1) Add "Note" menu. (Description/Waypoint/etc...)
2) Add "REG_GPS_MAXIMUM_AGE" for "Manage GPS Automatically".(value 1 = 1min)
3) Add "REG_CACHE_ELAPSED_DAYS_MAX" for Stored Cache/Trackable.(value 1 = 1 day)
4) Download cache images failed issue fixed.
5) Add "Elapsed Days" of Cache/Trackable.

Also, Treo Pro? please check FYI on download page. ==> 320x320_CUSTOM.zip

Wow version 8 already..

Did you "fix" the cache.xml files for the duplicated description ? I just downloaded one (GC1H86N) and the <GCz_short_description> element was now empty , but I Reloaded a cache that I had previously downloaded (GCKYFA) and that still has duplicated description data in both <GCz_short_description> and <GCz_description> ?

Yes I see it in the GPS-Monitor - as a result is you get the false distance to a cache for instance.

Another bug, maybe it's the same problem: you can reproduce it with the following cache: GC1R5X6
The coordinates: N 51° 54.067 E 014° 08.484, when you load the cache and go to GPS-monitor -> Set cache location, then you will see that the coordinates suddenly not correct because when you click Set Target location you can see the false coordinates: N 51° 54.672 E 014° 08.484 the "0" is disappear!!! Try it.

WOW! I really like this tool!

A very nice new feature is "write a note", I think. Great!

Tom, I still have a problem with downloading pictures in a cache-description. Could you test it with waypoint "GC1A87N"? The photos are downloaded to be shown in the cache-description, but they are not stored in the images-folder.
