I gt the U.S. version of Froyo to my German Galaxy 5-i5500 (previously 2.1) and flashed me kept exactly to the instructions from page 1. I have no problems, compass is o.k. and the battery will last longer than before.
Beware This bricked my phone !
Its seriously not a joke !
It was 28 dec 2010, I was checking out awesome phones on net. When I went though samsung galaxy family I got lust for getting galaxy 3 and galaxy s interface on my galaxy 5. So I checked out tutorials for installing galaxy 3 and s on net, and found it to be too similar with galaxy 5 installation. I then got the firmware for g3 and gs. I went into downloading mode of galaxy 5, started the process of flashing galaxy 3, it failed ! But mobile was still in downloading mode, so I again tried my luck and started installing galaxy s, **** ! Failed again ! Mobile still in downloading mode. Now I thought that I should remove battery as I always do if I get into downloading mode accidently, so with this thought I unplugged the battery.
» This was my biggest mistake !
Aftet plugging it, phone didn't start, it got bricked.
That mistake could have been undone, if at that time I had reflashed galaxy 5 firmware, the problem was that during my attempt to install g3 the galaxy 5 pda file was erased. So when phone restarted it didn't have the procedure for how to boot the phone.
I was for sure that my phone is full dead(bricked) when my all attempts to start the phone failed.
I was really unable to sleep that night.
Next day on 29/12/10 I visited samsung mobile service center, they declared that they cannot install the firmware and its motherboard( everything in mobile else external cover) has to be replaced and it would take about a weeks time to make it work !
They told me that motherboard costs more than 80% of total cost of phone, but I was very lucky that my phone was in warranty so I didn't have to pay for it, else I was in deep **** !
Finally they returned my phone on 11/01/2011. Full working !
The warned me not to update the software on my own and wait for the company to release official one.
Anyone who had done similar act and had successfully installed galaxy 3 or galaxy s on galaxy 5 please post a detailed guide for performing so.
Anyone who is planning to do so is free to do this untill you don't have warranty.
Do it at your own risk !
Note if you have warranty, atleast try to find a way to install galaxy 3 or galaxy s on galaxy 5, even if you have a little bit of idea what are you about do !
I guess the only risk with those who have warranty is that they will get separated from their mobile for a week !
And even this won't happen if you guys will not repeat the same mistake(specified above) done by me in the attempt to do the welfare of the samsung galaxy 5 owners all across the world !
If I could risk for all u guys, atleast u guys think for it !
So please guys attempt it !
Any new ideas please tell me !
Thanks !

Hi, I was helping testing Motafoca's firmware, and this version is amazing, its really fixes the battery problem! now the clock goes between 245mhz to 600mhz ( the original froyo version was fixed on 600mhz) and there is no performance issues! it just runs fine as the original froyo firmware does!
i recommend this firmware!
the setcpu is not needed anymore ( just if you like the profiles. like forcing to use low clock when battery is low )
Note: if you want to save even more power, you can user setcpu to lower even more the cpu to 122,88 mhz, but be warned, in our tests this couses to make wifi stop working sometimes! quite annoying
if you dont use wifi, i guess you can get a lot more juice of your batery!
I think you may need to do a hard reset first using *2767*3855# after using Kies, then use *#272*your imei# strait after the hard reset to change the product code, to check your IMEI type *#06#
After I enter #272*your imei# it don't show any list, just a textbox "Sale code" say "ARO" but I cant enter anything into it?
