I gt the U.S. version of Froyo to my German Galaxy 5-i5500 (previously 2.1) and flashed me kept exactly to the instructions from page 1. I have no problems, compass is o.k. and the battery will last longer than before.

Beware This bricked my phone !
Its seriously not a joke !

It was 28 dec 2010, I was checking out awesome phones on net. When I went though samsung galaxy family I got lust for getting galaxy 3 and galaxy s interface on my galaxy 5. So I checked out tutorials for installing galaxy 3 and s on net, and found it to be too similar with galaxy 5 installation. I then got the firmware for g3 and gs. I went into downloading mode of galaxy 5, started the process of flashing galaxy 3, it failed ! But mobile was still in downloading mode, so I again tried my luck and started installing galaxy s, **** ! Failed again ! Mobile still in downloading mode. Now I thought that I should remove battery as I always do if I get into downloading mode accidently, so with this thought I unplugged the battery.
» This was my biggest mistake !
Aftet plugging it, phone didn't start, it got bricked.

That mistake could have been undone, if at that time I had reflashed galaxy 5 firmware, the problem was that during my attempt to install g3 the galaxy 5 pda file was erased. So when phone restarted it didn't have the procedure for how to boot the phone.

I was for sure that my phone is full dead(bricked) when my all attempts to start the phone failed.

I was really unable to sleep that night.

Next day on 29/12/10 I visited samsung mobile service center, they declared that they cannot install the firmware and its motherboard( everything in mobile else external cover) has to be replaced and it would take about a weeks time to make it work !
They told me that motherboard costs more than 80% of total cost of phone, but I was very lucky that my phone was in warranty so I didn't have to pay for it, else I was in deep **** !
Finally they returned my phone on 11/01/2011. Full working !

The warned me not to update the software on my own and wait for the company to release official one.

Anyone who had done similar act and had successfully installed galaxy 3 or galaxy s on galaxy 5 please post a detailed guide for performing so.

Anyone who is planning to do so is free to do this untill you don't have warranty.
Do it at your own risk !

Note if you have warranty, atleast try to find a way to install galaxy 3 or galaxy s on galaxy 5, even if you have a little bit of idea what are you about do !
I guess the only risk with those who have warranty is that they will get separated from their mobile for a week !
And even this won't happen if you guys will not repeat the same mistake(specified above) done by me in the attempt to do the welfare of the samsung galaxy 5 owners all across the world !
If I could risk for all u guys, atleast u guys think for it !
So please guys attempt it !

Any new ideas please tell me !

Thanks !

No offence, but you're an *******. Just because installing steps are the same it's DOESN'T MEAN IT'S OK!!!! Galaxy s And 3 have completely differnt settings and parameters. You can't install firmware from other phones on yours just because it is android. Why do you think we are all waiting for a normal froyo firmware for europe? If it would be possible i would have installed gingerbread a loooooooong time ago

Why would you ever try to flash the galaxy s or galaxy 3 firmware on your galaxy 5, it's different hardware.

Needs more gingerbread

Hi everyone,

I'm working on the GT-I5500 for about 10 days, played alot, flashed alot and i finaly got to learn how it works
Well i have created a modified froyo version based on samsung's I5500LAR0JP2
Basically i tweaked the initiation scripts and got the powersave gorvernor set to ondemand
It was performance, so the cpu clock was always at max
The battery now lasts about 3 times more according to testers and the device aparently is more stable. All the apps are the same
Setcpu can be removed since the powersave mode is now default

To install it, use the odin procedure as the same as the I5500LAR0JP2
Remember to do a factory wipe after installing
Below the file, DO NOT RENAME THE FILE TO .TAR OR ANYTHING ELSE, odin will do the checksum of the file so you know it has been downloaded correcty

At the Lowyat forum there is all the testing and modifications
forum.lowyat.net/topic/1687862

You can also join the irc channel at freenode.net (webchat.freenode.net channel #gti5500)

All kind of help is welcome

Thanks,

Hi, I was helping testing Motafoca's firmware, and this version is amazing, its really fixes the battery problem! now the clock goes between 245mhz to 600mhz ( the original froyo version was fixed on 600mhz) and there is no performance issues! it just runs fine as the original froyo firmware does!

i recommend this firmware!

the setcpu is not needed anymore ( just if you like the profiles. like forcing to use low clock when battery is low )

Note: if you want to save even more power, you can user setcpu to lower even more the cpu to 122,88 mhz, but be warned, in our tests this couses to make wifi stop working sometimes! quite annoying

if you dont use wifi, i guess you can get a lot more juice of your batery!

I think you may need to do a hard reset first using *2767*3855# after using Kies, then use *#272*your imei# strait after the hard reset to change the product code, to check your IMEI type *#06#

After I enter #272*your imei# it don't show any list, just a textbox "Sale code" say "ARO" but I cant enter anything into it?

@Tekie - i did had the Froyo. Was doing just fine. It needed battery recalibration (charge it fully ~3 times, let it discharge fully or let it reach the red bar ~3 times), compass ok, battery consumption after recalibration was better than Eclair, moving apps to sd was super. Reverted back to Eclair waiting for Vodafone or Samsung to release official zone-related Froyo (just to see the difference between them). Hope this helps you or others.

@alvis_do - it seems you have a single zone release. there are outhere firmwares with multi-zone/language/area support that let's you choose. hope this is you problem. mine had multiple choices of operators, that is why i think it shows you only one option. (I have the original Eclair that came with my phone reflashed - the version is covered a few pages back in my guide "How to revert back to original firmware - Vodafone RO").

@spasspecker - at this time there is only one vs. of Froyo that you can flash and that is for Latin America. I understand from other users on this forum that is going to be released a vs. for Europe also in the upcoming future from Samsung. If you are locked with an operator then you must wait for that operator to test it, modify it for use in that network and that is gonna take some time (2 weeks, 3, who knows?). Guess those are your options FOR NOW.

@gabriel.87 - Try Volume Down+Center Button+Power Button (previous to this take your battery out for 5-10 secs, push the power button a couple of times<i did that> and then reattach it and try the combo). Hope it works. If not, will try to find other ways, search the forum or google yourself the problem.

Firmware from different regions will have a different list of product codes, the CPW code is only for UK hansets purchased from carphone warehouse in the UK, you also need to do a factory reset using *#2767*3855# for the correct product codes to show up for the particular firmware you are using.
