Glad to see we have root the night before I get my S4! I am a bit of a noob, so I have a couple quick questions before I come straight home from the AT&T store tomorrow and root my phone.

1. Can someone please be so helpful as to post a link to the proper Samsung USB drivers that we are to have for this process?

***Please forgive me for being such a noob, but hopefully I can be the voice of the other noobs and ask the few questions they may have and need answers too like me. And thank you in advance, I love the XDA community! :victory:

If you download the latest version of Kies, you should have it.

Can someone who knows what they're doing upload or email me (dan.j.rosenberg@gmail.com) the aboot and TZ partitions from their device? They should be mmcblk0p6 and mmcblk0p8 respectively. Please mention exactly which device you have (model and carrier).

Does your phone have to be rebooted into Developer mode or just on when you run the "run.bat"?

Thanks for the root exploit and just to let you know that the S4 firmware (at least the one on my phone i.e. I9505XXUAMDE) is available on Samfirware.

Did you extract all the files for the root out of the zip file first? Sounds like you may be just double clicking the. bat while the rest is zipped still.

I have extracted all of the motochopper zip file to a folder and run the zip.

I would redownload the archive and try again. That syntax doesn't look right. Some of the words are cut off in the beginning of those lines.

that was my copying and pasting :silly:

I have downloaded the files about 3 times and still getting the same.

Main thing is it is showing ADB out of date..?

I just downloaded and installed Kies. Make sure it's configured not to load up when you connect the phone to your pc.

It looks like you're having an issue with adb getting Protocol failures during "adb push" so none of the subsequent steps are working. I'd start by making sure you have the correct drivers installed (you can get them from samsungmobile.com under the Support tab -> Downloads for our phone). If that doesn't fix it, search your computer for other copies of "adb.exe" and the two DLL files included in the zip. Clean them up if you have them (probably c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 - most guides have you dump them in there).

Kies will install them, just uninstall the software and leave the drivers when it prompts you for a decision.
You can leave the software but it will always the syncing the phone every time you plug it in.
You can live without the software but absolutely need the drivers... unless you configure it not to sync when you plug it into a pc

Sorry about that, just needed to update the version of ADB I was including. It should work fine now. Try downloading a fresh copy from the same link and trying again.

I've updated the instructions to mention that you will need to approve the ADB connection from your PC on the device.

OP forgot to update to NEW ADB in original DL link... If you delete that one and DL a new copy from the provided link, it should work

A recent root exploit I published for Motorola devices, Motochopper, should do the trick for rooting the Qualcomm-based variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4, including the AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile branded models.

    Download the exploit here:
    http://vulnfactory.org/public/motochopper.zip

    Instructions:

    1. Extract the entire contents of the zip file.
    2. If you are using Windows, ensure you have installed the latest Samsung USB drivers available for your phone.
    3. Ensure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your device.
    4. Connect your device to your PC via USB.
    5. If you are using Windows, navigate to the extracted directory and execute "run.bat". If you are using Linux or OS X, navigate to the extracted directory in a terminal and execute "./run.sh".
    6. Approve the ADB connection from your PC on your device.

    Warning:
At this point, since there are no custom recoveries or stock images available, it may not be possible to repair your device should you accidentally break it. Please be aware of this before performing any modifications to your phone.

As always, future OTA updates may remove the ability to regain root access, so proceed with caution when updating. Enjoy!

I tried to send a PM to @djrbliss but he has it disabled.

CASUAL handles Windows, Linux, and Mac in a single Java JAR. you can open it up and go into the /SCRIPTS/ folder then open the SCR to see your code rewritten in CASUAL format.

The benefeit of CASUAL scripting is that it performs troubleshooting for the user

    Download http://d-h.st/64i

    33o475s.png

Anyway, i always rewrite in CASUAL format because its more useful to have a single file that works on all platforms rather than a zip file that has differences for each.

Although I love that this was found...part of me feels it should be in the other dev section...as this method isnt exactpy "original" its a methid for a different phone that just so happens to work...just my .02

Anyways as I already stated edtremly greatful...nice to have root again

Its more original than anything else that will be in this forum. djrbliss is the originating other of the exploit, and the person that located the vulnerability used.
