At&t has the original atrix lapdock for $50 ! Can the connectors be modded to allow the bionic to work on this or will it not work with the webtop os on the lapdock?

I just ordered one. If there's no way to mod it I'm sure you can unload it on craigslist or ebay.

*edit*
Found this thread over in the Razr forums, someone got the Atrix lapdock working with their Razr so I'm hoping it does work with our Bionics.

Ya I read on that Photon thread that one guy has successfully modded the ports for the bionic and it works. Sweet deal !

I got one too. Although i'm not sure about the spacing, the main difference seems to be that the ports will be upside down for the bionic. Pop open a couple of screws (start on post 6 of the photon thread) and hopefully all we need to do is flip them around. A little trimming of the plastic around the connectors may be needed

I would like to see pix too. I ordered one yesterday. Can't wait. I assume the terminals could be just turned around and maybe some cutting to make the phone fit in the cradle.

Does the cradle need to be modded? If so, is it just at the openings for the ports? I'd be willing to do that, but not much more.

Walk in ATT store Monday morning just to check, they have one in stock, price ring up $299 I told them it's $50 online, they pull up website, override price I walk away with lapdock. To make it work with BIONIC you have to flip terminals around, when you turning terminals you will have to trim opening (self explained) .Also you have to trim cradle on the right side for the phone to sit straight. Total time 10 min Max.

got mine modded. here are some quick pics. too lazy to do good ones ;)

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.16.29.png

webdock.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.16.47.jpg

back, flipped out.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.17.02.png

extended battery/case piece removed

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.17.36.png

on the side there's a little black adhesive sticker covering a screw. remove that and the screw on both sides.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.18.17.png

like so.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.18.34.jpg

popped open.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.18.50.png

there is a metal piece holding the connectors in place. remove it.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.19.14.png

note the rubber piece in between connectors.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.19.37.png

the connectors come right out. I used a knife and trimmed the outside plastic so I could flip it.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.20.12.jpg

I found the extended battery cover doesn't play well. I had to sand down the part where it actually docks.

Screenshot-2011-12-08_19.20.53.jpg

and here we go!

I sanded the right side of the dock down, as the connectors didn't seat deeply enough.

that's all!

I modded mine as well. Used a dremel tool on the plastic to make more room for the ports. Works like a charm ! I left the top plastic cover off, the phone seems to sit fine with out it

I brought an attrix laptop for $50.
I switch around the usb and hdmi port.
It works perfect, but i had to be unrooted. For some reason it did not work when i was rooted.

Ok I am loving this idea but where are you getting the 50 dollar docks? When I look on AT&Ts site I don't see any for 50 dollars.

it was on sale at AT&T - unfortunately the sale is over now.

FYI I'm rooted and have a custom rom - heck, I have webtop2sd and xfce running.

Great pictures! Can you take one of the finished outside of the dock?

mine looks messy but it works. basically I just needed to make more of the usb connector exposed.
I used a knife.. will dremel it and make it nice when I get home!
