Pretty self-explanatory really. I need to restore the stock recovery via fastboot but the only dreaimg files I can find aren't compatible with my HTC dream. I need the original ROGERS dreaimg file so I can at least do something with adb. I can access ADB while the phone is in a boot loop but it can't find flash_image so I can't replace the recovery with that.

Fastboot throws not allow errors as well. my only hope is HBOOT.

I renamed it to dreaimg.nbh and tried to flash it through hboot. it said it was the wrong model and wouldn't continue.

Can you write down everything it says on HBOOT screen here?
Also there were two hardware variants to this phone, one has slightly different keys, can you take a pic?

I don't really have anything to take photos with, my only other functional phone is an old blackberry 9000 and the ribbon cable for the camera has been damaged.

If it helps, this is a black phone, branded rogers. when I got it from my company (I work for a game testing company and it's so old they had no use for it anymore so they let me have it) it had android 1.5 on it. The trackball is black, the buttons don't have any coloured icons on it (like the dial icon and such).

On the sticker underneath the battery:

Thanks! I'll get right to it.

Say, what's the difference between the oddball model and the other one?

I just tried the rogers 1.89.631 zip file but the phone says model id incorrect and won't update. Is there a specific series of steps I should follow?

Ok, so I tried RUU mode and if I try to flash either NBH files you uploaded on androidfilehost, I only get a signature verification fail error.

I tried flashing orange.nbh that way too but while it passes signature verification, it fails with a wrong model id error.

The first should work as an RUU, my guess is that i had only zipped it and not signed it
You can try to sign it yourself (or i can if you are having troubles - just google it's easy) and if that doesn't work you need HTC to sign it, then it's just a matter of finding the original one still zipped

As for the two models, yours is a slightly updated version, hard to find here in the states, not only is the design slightly cooler imo but also there were a few changes to the board, hence the different versions of rooting
I dug up mine to show you the physical differences
