First of all, you must have root for this to work and I am not responsible for your actions!! If you were tech savvy enough to root your droid x, then you will be able to do this mod. This mod is for those droid x users who are having eye problems staring at that light statusbar. Download this unedited framework-res.apk first and put it somewhere safe in case you need to recopy it. http://www.teenfaces.com/droid/framework-res.apk Download original services.jar file here ... http://www.teenfaces.com/droidbackup/services.jar

Download the droid10a.zip from link below and unzip the contents to the root of your sdcard. Now very carefully copy or type the code seen below. Your droid will take a little longer to reboot. Do not interrupt it!

Warning if you do not know what you are doing DO NOT try this. You will be stuck in a boot loop.
If you do know how to do this Enjoy :) It is normal for the phone to go black after you copy the statusbar. Continue to copy or enter the rest of the code and reboot your phone.

WARNING THIS NEW VERSION (10a) is from the .604 update and is a clean black port and includes, white clock, notifications and BlurHome.apk! Download the Version (10a)zip and extract the contents to the root of your sdcard. It has not been tested on the older operating system!!!!!! if you have already updated your phone with verizons OTA update either by OTA or manually, then this version is for you. If not use at your own risk!!!!!!!
Newest mod is version(10a) and can be downloaded here >>>> http://www.teenfaces.com/droid/version10a/Droid10a.zip

code:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system

cp /sdcard/BlurHome.apk /system/app
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot

Now pick which modified statusbar you want to copy. The one above this line is version 4 and the attached images at the bottom of this page are version (1). Simply download and copy it to your sdcard. Follow the instructions carefully below. One typo could boot loop your phone! Please use caution. I am not responsible for your actions. You are responsible for all attempts to modify your phone.

http://www.teenfaces.com/framework-res.apk

use your adb shell or terminal emulator:

Code:

su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot

Warning if you do not know what you are doing DO NOT try this. You will be stuck in a boot loop.
If you do know how to do this Enjoy :) It is normal for the phone to do a soft reboot after you copy the statusbar. Continue to copy or enter the rest of the code and reboot your phone.

Below is updated Version (3) !!!

What if you would like to remove this after it has been installed?

simply make a copy of your original framework-res.apk first

su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /system/framework/framework-res.apk /sdcard
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system

put the original in a safe place ( I have the original also ).

now repeat the original cp instructions from post1 above.

You know, This is by FAR the OTHER best contribution after ROOT! Jesus  were you right of that white task bar! Coming from an Evo, nothing and I mean nothing bothered me more than that! LoL.. Thanks, I am gonna make a copy of mine, but, you should post the Original in the OP ;) Like you said later on in the thread, you'll have some asking, How do i do go back again? Thanks Again.

This looks and feels so much better!

Thanks for this. Would it be possible to have the red highlights green with the hexagon battery bar? Thank you

Without a safe recovery or sbf, I do not want to mess with the services.jar file to make the clock white. For now this is the safest mod for the statusbar in my opinion. I'm glad you like it

I agree it probably would be a good idea to post the original in the first post

It will reboot after you replace the framework-res.apk file automatically on most phones depending on how many mods you have done. Mine does not reboot so I have to type reboot. It should be rebooted after the framework is messed with so do not be alarmed about that. It is very important that you do not make any typos! You will put your phone in a boot loop if you mess this up. So please be very careful when doing this mod....
