Re 1 - are you perhaps using a custom sound and have not given Glimpse the permission to access files on your phone?

Re 2 - You probably have checked to obey system DnD in Quiet Times.

Thanks for your reply!

1. I hadn't realised I had to manually set that in Settings>App permissions>Storage. Thanks.

2. Obey DnD is ticked, as was "Enable quiet times" in Glimpse. I now understand that it was the latter that was preventing visual notifications during DnD. However, with only DnD enabled, Glimpse shows visual notifications, as I desire, but also vibrates the phone during DnD. Shouldn't vibration be muted along with sound?

I probably should add a trigger to request storage permission at this point, thanks for the heads up.

Re DnD, yes, you're probably right there. I'll take a look.

His issue was that GN didn't have storage access permissions (needed when using custom notification sounds). The check for that got lost in the UI code, will be fixed with the next version.

What is not working for you?
I've posted about it already but since the update to Oreo, my Zenfone 3 stopped working with GN. I've tested other "ambient display" softwares. Same thing.
I'm on Lineage OS now. I'll ask friends on stock to test it for me again.
If it doesn't work, log files will be useful to you?

Sorry I'm quite busy at the moment so short term memory is limited. If you can, yes, a system logcat dump would be good.

Be sure to enable GN's own logging function in Extras, and then:
Code:
logcat -c
<Use GN's testing function>
logcat -v time -d >log.txt

Then send log.txt to me: nullgrad.apps@gmail.com. The first call to logcat clears the log so it will be much shorter.

The delay screen on feature doesn't seem to work with my WhatsApp. Screen turns on almost immediately and cuts off the notification sound. Doesn't happen with other notification s.

@xrad

A question.

When the phone is on "mute" and not on Do Not Disturb, notifications won't show up.
GN is set to go along with Do Not Disturb configuration.

Is there a way for GN to differentiate both modes, so that notifications will still work when on mute?

Thanks!

I don't know off the top of my head, I will need to check it when I have some time.

Reporting.
The screen-on timer, when repeating the notification, seldom obeys to the selected seconds.
I have selected 3 seconds (from screen on to off). Most of the times, the screens stays on for more than that (around 10s).
The same happens with less or more time selected.

Thanks!

Note that physically turning off the screen is not possible in Android (by design) so I need some kind of work around which involves showing a black screen until the screen actually turns off.

If the screen really stays fully visible for more than the selected time, please do create a log reproducing this and email it to me.

Oh...I thought that, using a quicker screen-on timer would save me some battery. Since it's not an AMOLED display, showing a black screen still engages backlight, which is the battery drainer.
The damn phone doesn't have a LED to make the user aware of missed messages, calls or even if the battery is depleted or charging...boy I do know how to pick them! :rolleyes:

Well it probably will save you some battery, because usually the GN triggered screen off will be quicker than the system default. And I agree, it does work better with Amoled.
In case you're interested in some tech details, read this. Don't bother to comment though, Google staff has made it quite clear they don't want a proper "screen off" API because of DoS apps.

Big fan of this app and have a feature request, let me know if this is the wrong place for those.

Was wondering if we could get white/blacklist functionality for recurring notifications. I have all apps selected in the general settings to force my S9 to turn on the screen for them, but I only really care for texts to have recurring notifications.

    ~~~~~~ Introduction ~~~~~~
    Using Android Lollipop/Marshmallow's lock screen notifications?
    Tired of having to press the power button to see them?
    Want your phone to turn on new notifications, but only when you grab to look at it?
    Want your phone to turn on right when you take it out of your pocket?
    Then this app is for you!
    Introducing the all new efficiency app Glimpse Notifications:
    presentation.png
    This all new app fills an annoying hole in Android Lollipop's lock screen notification system. It's nice, it's shiny, but you always need to push that damn power button. This app does it for you, and also respects quiet times and whether or not your device is in your pocket.
    It also does this:
    • recurring notifications (screen on and/or sound)
    • emulate LED notifications that the system lockscreen no longer shows
    • Double-tap to lock function for lockscreen
    • custom lockscreen display time
    • lockscreen lock-on-cover function
    At the same time the app is completely for free and without ads!
    Just a general remark: I'm writing this app in my spare time and I'm not making any money with it. Before writing it, I tried numerous alternatives (both free an paid ones) but for one reason or the other, none of them really cut it for me. That includes the ones which were already mentioned here. So I rolled my own app, some people like it, some don't. That's really all there is to it. Use whatever you like, it's always great to have a choice. But let's keep the bad vibes out of this thread.
    Looks interesting, thanks for sharing. I'm an ACDisplay user on an S4 but it doesn't seem to stay active the notification allowed so I'll try this.
    Yes, been using that one (and others) as well, but I always wondered why everybody wants to reinvent the lockscreen. I'm using a pattern lock and found none of the existing solutions to work well.
    thanks for this, it works well
    only problem I found is that pocket detection doesn't work on my Samsung Galaxy S6
    Strange. So, have you observed the screen turning on even if the proximity sensor is covered?
    I plan on adding an extension to the pocket mode to cover the following use case: if the phone is pocketet or face down and you hear a notification, you typically take the phone and see what happened. Then I want it to turn on, but not necessarily everytime I take it out of my pocket. So something like "if coming out of pocket AND last notification less than N seconds ago -> turn on screen".
    Perhaps we can sort your issues with the sensor out on the way.
    Came here from XDA article. I'm developer of Notific, almost similar but more extended (the re inventing type).
    Good luck coping up with the multitude of bugs and non standard sensors of multitude of devices (specially samsung) I know how frustrating it gets sometimes.
    You can mail me if you need any pointers :)
    New version is out.
    It should fix flickering when the screen is already on (that was an embarrassing regression from 1.0 to 1.1). I'm now also using another method to turn on the screen, so that is now also flicker free. Downside is I now need WAKE_LOCK permission.
