DoomLord
can you compile kernel with this in init.rc?
Code:
service klog /system/bin/dd if=/proc/kmsg of=/sdcard/kernel.log bs=1
   oneshot
it can be very helpful for debugging kernel problems such as freezes (but write BIG message that this is debug kernel, because such service in everyday usage can kill internal nand :) )

nah that not a good idea...

@Doomlord

Thanks for your awesome kernel i follow your work since I have my x10 then neo then this wonderfull xperia S and I always found that your kernel was the best one

I tried all you kernel since v01 (01a-02 and now 03) and so far absolutely no issue at all. Really stable on my sense ROM even at 1890 MHz with smartassv2

I have a request (i know I shouldn't) so it is more a suggestion :
Could you add a special kernel optimised on baterry life ??! :D

Since this phone is already powerfull fast and smooth I think a kernel with battery life enhancer feature would be really helpfull

I know we could use lower frequency to save battery but I mean a kernel with lower voltage at each frequence with battery life tweaks deepsleep optimiser and more...

It is just a suggestion I don't want to spam (btw sorry for bad english)

About your kernel:

Could you implement lagfree governor please
(brasilian wax, scary, etc too if you can ;) )

I know it is lot of work so take your time mate we have already a really good kernel and that's awesome in only 3 updates

Thanks again and keep updating your excellent work!

Regards

R-ik

Sent from my LT26i using XDA

well smartass series governors are ment for exactly that...

regarding other governors, most of them are optimized for single core devices... since this device has dual cores and that too in asynchronous mode (aSMP) most of those governors wont function correctly... the governors i have added are from tested/proven sources of pyramid kernel by LeeDroid-, Faux123 & showp1984

recovery cant find delvic cache folder:
http://pastebin.com/gBb3tS5d
Code:
rm: can't remove '/cache/dalvik-cache': No such file or directory
rm: can't remove '/sd-ext/dalvik-cache': No such file or directory
Dalvik Cache wiped.

and spam this error:
Code:
active fb swap failed: Invalid argument

and also i have trouble with battery - its quickly discharged with v3 core, not only me, also 2 peoples from 4pda forum, i just lost 3% for only 5 minutes browzing in my phone settings (not in games).

answered ur query here:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=25301858#post25301858

In last day or two with V3 have had a couple more reboots (had same issue with V2) but very rare so does not bother me. Also last night had the same issue as someone a couple pages back with WIFI crashing when left on in deep sleep over night and i had to reboot to fix it. So far V1a has been the most stable for me on 73 central Europe Stock.

interesting so WIFI is causing crashes?

Doom,

I was thinking about bug hunting the issues some of us were having with V2/V3, would it be possible for you to provide all the patches seperately, and then those of us with issues load them at boot via init.d one by one until it starts rebooting?

I know nothing about the kernel architecture so I'm not sure if it's possible, but just a thought.

yes i will be posting incremental kernels for testing to see which patch exactly caused that issue...

for the 6th time at least, today i've found the phone off :/
On v0.3, ondemand, noop.

Idk if there is a better configuration (yesterday happened with smartassv2 too)

sorry mate...

same issue with freezes on all versions ;)

you seem to be the only user who has this issue... may be ur device doesnt like OC :D

thats ok some devices cant handle even slight overclock...

dont worry i will release a more "failsafe" version ;)

Is there a. Zip for the v01 and the v01a?

For flashing in recovery.

Verstuurd van mijn LT26i met Tapatalk

to install v01a via recovery use this ZIP
http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=25249521&postcount=108

I've had the same problems with every version :)
Not so often, just i think 6 deep sleep from the v0.1

so u find device sometimes off even on v01/v01a kernel?

@ALL
can u please try if u face similar issues even when using Interactive governor?

sorry guys about this crashing/unstable kernel... honestly even i am really disappointed with this... usually for my kernels (x10, ARC, PLAY) i always add one patch then release the kernel for public testing... if we find that stability/performance is not affected then i keep that patch and move on to next... but this time i jumped the gun :p

dont worry all this will be fixed i only need ur co-operation in helping out with bug-hunting and testing...

first batch of test kernels will be released in few hours...

regards,

DooMLoRD

Had interactive running for last hour V3. Have had apps force closing all over the place (Xda ,Twitter) using wifi, after they each forced close a few times tried N64oid and had full crash only had the LED flashing purple/blue and had to hard reset.

@doom What settings do you want testing next ?

Crashed again, twice in quick succession. 1st after playing angry birds for 10 minutes or so 2nd after a few seconds after it had booted back up. Had been using the phone prior to playing angry birds for a good 30min. so it's obviously caused by the process intensive game...

Anyway, attached the last_kmsg again, this one has errors and panic things.

Max freq 1.8
min 192
gov smartassv2
i/o noop

i know, i'm overclocker with exp ;) but this happens also with stock freqs. and one more interesting thing - today with no freezes, on stock governor and io scheduler and with OC (freezes was with interactive/noop). will test one more day, to be sure. did you saw my last_kmsg few pages ago?
p.s. freezes i mean - forever sleep mode :D

apps FCing is weird.... i am using interactive from the day i have started work on kernel and the only FC i have, rarely, is when i try to read a p.m. in XDA app...

Each app i tried and closed about 6 times in a row all the same, also i forgot to say i had a e-mail when started N64oid so could be something to do with the WIFI.

Been using performance since and it works really well no force closing or lag, its actually performing better then stock. all my tests are being done fair with no over-clock at all just stock values, using no-frills

    • i will be providing modules for my kernel which HAVE TO BE FLASHED VIA RECOVERY for wifi/bt (and other things) to work correctly
    • stock modules will also be provided which again will have to be flashed via recovery if u want to return to stock kernel

    • remember i have already told this to u guys... if i see some users reporting that wifi is giving error because u did not follow my instructions ur post WILL BE IGNORED....

some user may still suffer from "ERROR" while starting WIFI, even after flashing the correct modules via recovery, that is because of the initial pre-rooted system.img files, which dont have any space left on the system partition... to solve this issue reflash the stock system.sin thru fastboot or thru flashtool... my kernel will auto-root it so u dont need to worry about rooting and now u will have space to flash the wifi modules...
(thanks to kazuni for pointing it out here)

    [ credits for features ]

most of these patches are ported from HTC Sensation (Pyramid) kernel sources of faux123, showp1984 & LeeDroid-

THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR AWESOME WORK!

    OR

use the Advanced Stock Kernel posted here

    FOR OVERCLOCKING
    1. start SetCPU/NoFrills CPU Control app on ur phone (or any other app which supports overclocking) (u may get a popup asking for SuperUser permissions, click ok/yes/allow)
    2. now slowly increase the MAX slider to the right (one notch at a time) to increase the maximum frequency limit
    3. DO NOT JUMP TO THE LAST POSSIBLE FREQUENCY
    4. SLOWLY increase the frequency one notch at a time and do stability/testing for few hours

    [ tips / recommendations ]

    1. for better battery life try undervolting... start off in steps of -25mV and see which is stable for u... for my phone -100mV was stable...

    2. before u report any battery drain issues please read this:

all test kernels are now posted! start testing with the base kernel #9001

you can flash this over any previous version of my kernel via recovery... wifi module will automatically be flashed :)

please test out and let me know your feedback! kernel related bugs/issues should be posted in this thread, recovery related bugs/issues should be posted in recovery thread and general discussion goes in general discussion thread...

Ok so a weeks testing unless stated otherwise below is what i'd consider heavy use.

1080p youtube videos in browser and youtube app for at least an hr, stability test app for an hr, emu games, phone calls etc with 384/1.5ghz(I won't OC any higher then this sorry)/ondemand/deadline and dalvik cache wiped after flashing.

9002 - Used for 2 days, no issues found with the above tests, 41deg max and Stable.
9003 - Stability test report shows ~6mins @ 36 degrees it rebooted. Unstable.
9004 - Used for over 3 hrs with ondemand/BFQ IO set, no issues found with the above tests, 40 deg stable.
9005 - Used for over 3 hrs, no issues found with the above tests, 40 deg stable.
9006 - Used for over 3 hrs, no issues found with the above tests, 40 deg stable.
9007 - Used for over 3 hrs, no issues found with the above tests, 41 deg stable.
9008 - Spin off for 9003, stability test report shows ~1min @38deg it rebooted. Unstable.
9009 - Used for 2 days, no issues found with the above tests. 41 deg stable.

I was able to break the phone with 9003 and 9008 easily with out even overclocking and I always ran stability test first.

    No bootloops experienced.

Doomlord can you make a kernel with all the above commits with out these two (9003) offenders for testing? I'm back to using 9002 happily so i don't believe the gpu overclock is having an effect on stability, definitely not for me.

Free Stability Test app in market if any1 wants to try:

Stability test log after 9008 crash attached.

thanks for the detailed & consolidated report!

its clear that some devices are having issue with the 1890 Mhz OC kernel... so from next release i will be removing it...

After a while of testing with 9002 vs v1a vs 9009, 9009 offer the best stability without producing unnecessary heat and worse battery life. To me, GPU oc is really not a good option compares to performance vs battery life in return. Perhaps you can release a kernel with all the above optimization without oc of cpu and gpu? For testing purposes

yes as i posted a few pages back i am considering maintaining two versions of the kernel:

    1) Normal - all latest features + max CPU OC 1728 Mhz + NO GPU OC

    2) Performance - all latest features + max CPU OC 1728 Mhz + max GPU OC 300Mhz
    OR
Performance - all latest features + max CPU OC 1890 Mhz + max GPU OC 300Mhz

    @ALL

if anyone has video playback shutter/lag issues please report in details ur current setup (ROM version/kernel version/CPU gov./IO Sched/CPU min,max freq)

P.S.: as an extra juicy bit i am planning to include AROMA File Manager directly into the kernel (ramdisk)!! so u can have access to file manager operations RIGHT INSIDE RECOVERY!!!!
