Downgrade to MM 1.1.28

Sildeload needs to happen on stock recovery, root is not intended. Perhaps you need to start with a fresh Lollipop installation, updated to version 134, then sideload 1.1.31

After upgrading to MM 1.1.31 , the e-ink screen become worse than lollipop RU 1.1.134

It became very slow , washout and poor contrast

Can I downgrade to MM 1.1.28 or 1.1.30 ?

Marshmallow is still under development, so bugs may found. You can simply flash stock Lollipop firmware, do remember to flash userdata when prompted. MM should be relatively more responsive once it's stable, though it still can't defeat the fluidity that Kitkat offers.

OTA Updates

Hi! MM is coming soon and I was wondering if I can get it OTA if my Y206 is changed to Y201, rooted, bootloader unlock, TWRP, Xposed?

I'm running 1.1.30 (looks like I'd need to unroot for 1.1.31?) and it's a little bit more responsive. However there are certain bugs that will likely cause me to switch back to lollipop until the official release comes around:

(1) The main problem is that the EPD screen is too bright/washed out now. It also occassionally starts flickering like crazy when there's a lot of activity on the screen. It's still usable but it's not a good experience. Anyone know of a way to tweak contrast/brightness on the EPD screen?

(2) More often than not, the "swipe up" gesture to unlock the EPD screen just doesn't work. This drives me a bit nuts because I like to minimize my usage of physical buttons on smartphones to preserve their longevity.

I just checked for an update (was on EU firmware!) but it's giving me the option to d/l the RU firmware:

Unless it's intentional on their side (they now handle only one "region" version of their probably final firmware for this device), it may be another mistake like the one which lead to a 4pda user receiving the unstable 1.1.43 version OTA.

I'm running an EU YD201 too, I'll report on which OTA is offered when I'll get it.

Never mind, i seem to be running LRX21M.5.0.0-RU1.1.134 currently..... that explains a lot!

    The stable Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 - firmware 1.1.47 update is officially being released Over-The-Air (OTA) starting from 29 March 2017 in the afternoon, here is the announce on the YotaPhone VK page.
    Moreover, the main improvements are listed in this official 4pda post by the company YotaDevices. Main changelog can be found in the attachments, but many other new features are explained in the YotaHelp app within MM.

    The update will initially arrive by OTA to those with latest RU 134 firmware, later it should be available also on the FTP YotaDevices' server. In the future it will be pushed also to EU firmwares. Keep in mind that for a succesful OTA installation, the phone must be stock, with no /system partition modifications and stock recovery. Root will be lost after the update. As this is a major update, as for every Android phone a clean start is recommended (factory reset). It is not necessary, by the way, things can work fluently even without it.

    Found a bug? The company YotaDevices explicitly asked to kindly send them your findings if you wish to help, let's see how.
    • Find out if the bug is reproducible and notice what are the phone's settings and configuration to make this bug happen;
    • A useful app for bug reports is this one;
    • Provide as much detail as you can, with your phone specifications, firmware, version, etc;
    • To generate bug reports, also the command adb bugreport bugreport.zip can be used while the device is attached to PC with ADB enabled;
    • If you can't handle native bug report funcion, just provide as much information as you can, maybe with some screenshots;
    • Send everything to support@yotadevices.com

    As it is taking a lot of time to update due to many requests handled by their servers, unkernet uploaded the MM update 147. I will attach .torrent files in this post, one is FULL FOTA and another one is OTA from RU 134 to MM. Here there is another mirror for FULL FOTA: GDrive. These files can be pushed manually into the phone (sideloaded) with adb using stock/TWRP recovery (even if sometimes there are errors with custom recoveries such as TWRP). This procedure brings to identical results as an OTA has been installed automatically. Just go into recovery (VOL UP + POWER), select apply update from ADB, connect the phone to PC and with a command prompt opened where adb.exe and the FOTA.zip are located, type: adb devices, which should return a value, then adb sideload FOTA.zip.

    How to adb sideload an update (no data loss)
    @hpnhannghia created a video-guide to update to latest MM build starting from latest RU Lollipop 134, using adb sideload. If you find it useful, you may thank him in this post.

    BETA-PROGRAM DETAILS ARE HIDED IN THE SPOILER BELOW, AS THEY ARE NO LONGER RELEVANT.

    UPDATE 20/12/16: BETA-TESTING APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED.

    As of now the LATEST OFFICIAL MM BETA is 1.1.31. Download links and instructions are in the OP. The 1.1.43 is leaked and YotaDevices said that it is UNSTABLE.

    The beta-testing program for Android Marshmallow has begun! The announcement was made officialy by the user YotaDevices on 4pda.ru.
    First of all I would like to thank the user @Amplificator who pointed it out here
    I will translate and put the announcement below in the spoiler:

    Dear friends!
    On the eve of one of the most magical and wonderful festivities, our team wants to offer YotaPhone 2 users to participate in the beta testing of a new firmware for the transition to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system.
    You will be able to experience Android 6.0 in action with several new features, and in return we ask you to share with us your comments and suggestions. As part of the beta test on YotaPhone 2 will be sent to upgrade to Android M. But before you decide to participate, please read the instructions below.
    1. The updates that you receive as part of the beta version, may contain errors or defects that significantly affect the operation of the device.
    2. You can always choose from and return to stable public version of the firmware running Android 5.0 Lollipop. However, if your smartphone has already installed a beta version of Android M, then during the rollback, all user data will be deleted permanently.
    Participation in the beta available to users who bought YotaPhone 2 on the territory of Russia (in the online shop or at official points). Smartphones currently RU1.1.134 firmware version must be installed.
    The beta-version of the firmware on China Yotaphone2 (Model YD206) could be installed incorrectly or with errors. In this case, we are not responsible for the performance of the whole system, so we do not recommend to the users of this model to participate in the test program.
    In order to examine your applications to partecipate to the program we need the following information:
    1. IMEI ( "Settings" -> "About phone" -> "General" -> IMEI);
    2. A screenshot of the settings in the "About phone", namely the points "firmware communication module," "kernel version" "Build Number";
    3. Contact information (name, email address, phone number).
    Please send the info above with a personal message to the representative of YD 4PDA: YotaDevices
    __________end of announcement __________
    SENDING FEEDBACK TO YOTA-DEVICES: If you have found a bug that just happened or you can even reproduce it, you can send bug reports here: TechCS@yotadevices.com with the function "send bug report" which can be found the Developers option in the Settings. You have to click that function no more than 15minutes as a bug has occurred, and in the email specify as better as possible what you've done to reproduce it, and write your IMEI. [Before sending reports, a clean installation of the latest beta is advised, that is, flashing the latest FOTA and then doing data/dalvik/cache wipes.]
    For general support and feature request any YotaPhone user can write to: support@yotadevices.com

    UPDATE 23/12/16: FOTA OF LATEST BETA VERSION 1.1.28, TO BE INSTALLED STARTING FROM 5.0 RU .134: need to be sideloaded (adb sideload filename.zip) using stock recovery. Download here.
    Credits to 4pda user kosvas
    UPDATE 25/12/16: TWRP BACKUP OF BETA 6.0.1 firmware 1.1.28: Download link. Unzip it and put the folder into your personal TWRP backup folder, which name is alfanumeric (for example: 025e8b1302684091f). You can find it in your phone: TWRP/BACKUPS/*******. You already have this folder if you created a backup with TWRP in the past. If not, just enter TWRP and create a small backup (of just one partition for example), thus TWRP will create the folder you need. Inside this alfanumeric folder you will put the downloaded file.
    Source and credits this 4pda post.
    UPDATE 29/12/16: TWRP BACKUP OF BETA 6.0.1 firmware 1.1.30: Download link see instruction above. Source and credits this 4pda post.
    Moreover, here there's the OTA 1.1.30 with must be applied from 1.1.28 with stock recovery using adb sideload (you must be unrooted). For your convenience there's also a full FOTA Marshmallow 1.1.28 here which must be used from latest 4.x RU Android version. Source and credits this 4pda post.
    UPDATE 10/01/17: FULL ZIP OF BETA 1.1.31: It has to be installed on stock ROM without modifications, using the stock recovery and adb sideload command. link here: FOTA MM. Source: 4pda post The incremental update (from 1.1.30 to 1.1.31) has not been uploaded by anyone, at the moment.

    You can use any method you want between these two: adb sideloading the official FOTA with stock recovery OR restoring a clean TWRP backup created by beta-testers.

    UPDATE 03/03/17: OTA ZIP of LEAKED 1.1.43: This OTA package has been received by mistake by one of 4pda user, Kazus48; YotaDevices replied saying that this version won't be available to beta-testers due to its instability. Nevertheless, it has been extracted and uploaded by welser. I repeat that installing this OTA is not advised by YotaDevices, do it at your own risk, as it is an internal build. You can find it here: sideload it with stock recovery above 134 Lollipop.

    When the beta-program will end the official marshmallow release will be available initially by OTA to any YotaPhone2 with latest RU and EU firmware (no matter which radio or which model (YD201 or YD206).
    • Take a look at this post to have a brief review of the MM update and to see also some screenshots.

    Mini Review Type Thing 3

    Okay so I decided to install the leaked MM internal beta build.

    1) The first startup was VERY laggy. It could have been my device but it was very laggy for a few minutes. It disappeared and hasn't returned since but it was showed up on first boot.

    2) In settings under notifications there are a few new options. A toggle to turn on and off full screen notifications on the EPD. And options for Notifications time out.

    Screenshots here

    3) It's small but in settings under navigation panel the wording under each option makes more sense now.

    Screenshot here

    4) They fixed the fast charging bug. In lollipop when you used fast charging it would turn the battery icon green but in every MM beta that hasn't been there. With this beta they fixed it so now it changes green like in lollipop.

    Screenshot here

    5) This one is harder to explain and show but I'm certain they changed something with the EPD. I think they changed the way dithering aka how things are drawn. Certain images for yotacover have more noise and look a lot more grainy. But when mirroring and transferring certain apps it's a lot more easier to tell things apart. The colours are less washed out now.

    For example I noticed in previous MM betas transferring telegram to the EPD would make it unreadable since the light colours and fonts would be washed out and make the app barely usable for me. But now all the fonts are more darker and easier to tell apart, and you can see the default background more which you couldn't really in old betas (at least in my opinion.)

    6) This one is harder to show but at least for me this beta has gotten rid of a lot of the bugs on the EPD. I'm not sure about all the bugs like alarms and that but the ones I encounted on previous betas are practically gone now.

    In old betas sometimes mirroring the front display would be buggy and start refreshing on any small animation like swiping on home screen. That hasn't happened at all , at least for me.

    7) I can't be certain but I think they updated the yotahelp app with more tutorials.

    8) Not sure if anyone cares but they updated the "Android Security Patch Level" to the 1st of January 2017.

    9) There are now settings for the media yotapanel.
    There's only one toggle called "full screen cover" and it changes the album artwork. So you can either have it full screen or a square.

    Screenshots here

    10) another small tweak but I think they changed the page indicator for the EPD.

    Overall this beta feels more polished and closer to the final version. There are less bugs and it seems like they are focusing on tweaking and adding all the small things.

    I still wouldn't recommend updating simply because yota have said this beta is unstable. I personally haven't experienced anything weird yet but I simply wouldn't take the risk.
    6
    Mini Review Type Thing

    Okay just playing around with it for a little while I've noticed a few things. Please keep in mind this is still a beta and they are still working on the bugs obviously.

    • Overall EPD is still buggy but that was already noted. Animations in general seem weird and glitchy on the EPD.
    • Unchecking "Lock the always-on display" in security doesn't work. The passcode still remains for the EPD and I don't think you can disable unless you disable passcode outright.
    • Trying to unlock and input passcode on the EPD can be slow and might not fully finish.
    • Swiping animation can sometimes happen twice on the EPD and swiping to the "homescreen" just flashes, no animation whatsoever.
    • Opening the camera doesn't display the EPD shutter unless you take a photo or "swipe" across on the EPD.
    • Sometimes the opening animation doesn't work on the main display so the app will just flash onto the screen.
    • There is a new app called YotaSnap and pressing the power button shows a new option it. (Screenshot in attachments)
    • Opening YotaSnap shows options and tapping on one of them, for example map brings up another screen where it will show you all the screenshots for maps and allows you to take a new one. (Screenshots in attachments)
    • Clicking on the "Take screenshot" option opens up the specific app and brings up 2 overlays. 1 in the top left corner has an X icon along with the word exit and 1 in the bottom right has a white camera icon in circle. But you can click the home button and go into any app and the overlays stay. (Screenshots in attachments)
    • There is a new heading in the settings app under YotaPhone called Navigation Panel which has two options one for the "Transfer button" and one for Yotasnap. (Screenshots in attachments)
    • The transfer button seems to basically be Yotamirror but it only works for a specific app it doesn't mirror the whole display like before.
    • The shortcuts on the EPD for phone, messaging and email mirror the main display apps not EPD specific apps like on lollipop and the notification button doesn't do anything for me.
    • I'm not sure if this is new but Android Pay comes preinstalled and there is an option in settings called "Tap & pay"

    If you want to know anything else I can try to answer them for you but overall the update feels snappy with a few little bugs. So basically a beta. :laugh::silly::victory: I'd only recommend updating if you understand this is a BETA and there will be BUGS, not everything in this update is perfect.

    Oh and don't ask me about battery life I've had it installed for just over 1 hour.

    Yotaphone 2 YD201 or YD206 upgrade to Android 6.0.1 / Android M keeping ROOT

    What's new in this release:
    This version adds new and interesting features.
    It's an official rom and it adds new yotamirror and yotasnap buttons next to the android buttons.
    It also allows to run two normal apps in parallel, one on each screen. Useful for maps and chat for example.
    Android M provides a new battery optimization system that suspends unused apps to save battery.
