Issue downgrading to ICS

A bit OT, but as this ROM is not updated anymore we can spoil the thread anyway we want :)

When downgrading to CM9, my advice would be to do this from TWRP and flash Mackay ICS directly on top of kitkat, with a factory reset both before and after installing Mackay ICS. I have done it 10 times or so in the last few weeks and with two factory reset it works fine, whereas with a single factory reset before installing Mackay ICS, it may result in a bootloop.

Hi Kasper. after having upgraded regularly with you, I wanted to have a try on ICS.
I've got an issue downgrading from this Omni Mackay Release (20140226) to your Mackay ICS (MackayROM_CM9_galaxysmtd_2014_1.7).
After Factory Reset from TWRP, install failed with following status " assert failed" It then shows the first assert test you get on your updater.script, on Galaxy-S type (getprop("ro.product.device'...)).
Any idea ? I didn't find such symptom anywhere in this thread nor in ICS thread. Naturally, I've got a Galaxy-S (GT-I9000)

If I parse recovery log, I find such prop :" ro.product.device=GT-I9000"

Then log of error is following, anyway
Installing '/sdcard/AFlashes/CM9/MackayROM_CM9_galaxysmtd_2014_1.7 (1).zip'...
Checking for MD5 file...
I:Cannot find file /sdcard/AFlashes/CM9/MackayROM_CM9_galaxysmtd_2014_1.7 (1).zip.md5

when we will receive new updates to this rom? :(

Although this rom is quite good, it's been dead for a very long time.

Here's the developer announcement about ceasing development

http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=50920690&postcount=1043

I would suggest Omni
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2488037
It's almost identical, and you get nightlies with OpenDelta.
Plus, coming from Mackay Omni, you don't have to full wipe, just wipe system+dalvik+cache, install, and then re-install gapps. It worked for me

@kasper_h ..how bout changing base? I see no one has tried slim base.u might want to know that slimkat 5.8 (4.4.3) is d snappiest kk ROM I've tried lately when paired w/ McKay kernel 690.it has some bugs,ROM side.
I believe u can make it an awesome ROM..with fine-tuning and some added features.
It also looks like mnazim has abandoned the thread.

I am speechless
What you are saying in fact, is that for more than a year you have been investing your precious time, voluntarily, on something you didn't even like?!?
I am spechless

Oh man, I am speechless about your simple thinking. Omni was a new project and I liked its philosophy. I have been working on Omni with great pleasure. But over time, I started to see things happening over at Omni that were against there philosophy (at least from my perspective). Then I decided to put all my efforts on my CM-based ROM, also using the things developed for my omni-based ROM to further improve my CM-based ROM.

But thanks for worrying about my mental health :highfive::angel:

As mentioned above, I currently work on a CM-based ROM. But if everyone prefers a Slim-based build, I could consider moving over to Slim. But that's a discussion for the other thread, not for here.

I actually stopped working on omni quite some time ago, because I don't really like it. I don't even have the source code anymore on my build pc. So there will be no updates of this ROM.

Just to be clear, it is not about the ROM as such. Omni may be a very nice ROM in daily use. But I didn't like how things were going (and are still going) with Omni in the background with the Omni team.

I have been sharing my CM7/CM9/CM10/CM10.1/CM10.2/CM11-based builds for several devices. MackayROM was first based on CyanogenMod sources, but I decided to move over to Omni as base for my ROM.

About Omni: Omni is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.4 (KitKat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.

If you run into errors, I may not be able to solve it!

If you know a solution to a problem, either upload it yourself to Gerrit Code Review or contact me through pm.

The ROM is based on Omni sources with the following changes:
    -Mackay Kernel:
-Set of cherries picked from gerrit (differing by the day)
-Some additional patches I did myself to the source code

Feature request are OK, but remember:
    1. I try to stay close to stock
    2. I will not include additional apps, unless they can be build from source
    3. The time I spend on features depends on how much I like them myself

Although it is possible to enable ART, this is not advisable:
-Takes long to convert from Dalvik to ART on first boot
    -Needs more RAM
    -Can cause soft reboots
But off course, YMMV -> light users may have better luck

    Changelog of 27-Feb-2014
-Omni codebase of 26-Feb (e.g. new bootanimation :))
    -QS Ribbon is gone

-Custom kernels can be used only if specific for OmniROM => currently none
