Tired of updating a number every time he gives us an update? Really? New updates are not daily. The man repeatedly told everyone to not mash f5 on the temp website for CM9. The date is just another mechanism to weed confusion for new users (as you can clearly see every ROM thread has a date). Less questions to be asked. Just like there are threads that contain fixes gathered from the pages within this thread, so people don't have to wade through all the spam to find the helpful bits.

It's just a convenient thing to have that dials down unnecessary "when new build" questions that inevitably become tiring over time.

As for purposely removing it, I'd like to hear that from him. I'd like to know it's ok with him I keep refreshing his website every 5 minutes all day every day because I'm a "diehard flasher".

I removed it because I forget to update it. It takes two seconds to find a new build and almost always give advanced warning. Sometimes I just update and wait. It takes like 3 minutes for someone to yell first. I'm a very busy person as of late so...

I don't even see why you have to explain your self..many of us appreciate your work and understand that this is your hobby not your 9 to 5. It's simple, whoever doesn't like the progress or any lack of updates, or things being borked...FLASH SOMETHING ELSE!

Thank you Joker and the rest of the gang for making my photon cooler. Ignore the haters and the demanding dorks.

I'm not sure what you mean by services, when I installed the 4.3 rom I couldn't get the google services, on the last few builds you need to re-flash gapps after every rom change and I always do it, but this time it did not work, I was using gapps v 10, so I upgraded to v 11 and everything worked fine.

Thanks, joker. That's all I wanted to know.

As a side note, I find it hilarious how every time someone asks a question, more often than not they are met with "if you don't like it you can flash something else" and "<dev name here> is doing this as a hobby he's not working for you". What is the relevance in responding to me with those statements if I asked nothing that warranted any of those answers. I didn't ask for ETAs, I didn't ***** about some common bug and i didn't rage because I don't get my hourly ROM update. I just asked a nondescript question that only the person in charge of the thread could answer.

I hold joker's work very dear and it's part of the reasons why I own the phone I own. As is the case with every other dev and contributor that makes our lives so much easier for basically no reward. Don't go around assuming that because I'm not here 24/7 praising the lord I'm not aware of the work these people put in to these ROMs.

But please, guys, try to read before going into full raging fanboy mode. I can now see why some devs just up and leave without a word because they can't take it anymore.

I've been meaning to post this for some time. I know in the past people have mentioned the lack of a torch/flashlight widget like CM7 has. I had the torch app from CM7 backed up with Titanium, and it restored and runs perfectly on CM9. If anyone needs the apk I can post it.

That wasn't said directly towards you. It was more in general. Looking back through these many pages, you see that a lot, people *****ing for updates, or complaining about camera not working, why there's no 4G.

So it wasn't a fanboy rage, or directed at you. Keep your panties on.

+1.. quite a laborious welcoming to the photon community (but well worth it)!

---------- Post added at 09:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 AM ----------

I'm 4 days young to the Photon community, and that's also 4 business days running this cm9 beta as a daily driver, and it's certainly qualified to do so! Great work everybody.

I've held back from 0.4.3, as the camera was known to be borked.

I'm on 0.4.2.1 now, and have only a few issues worth mentioning:

- MMS (in or out) does not work for me. I've tried the manual APN fixes, however "Open APNs" does nothing. I did try an app from market to shortcut to the APN list in Android, but there is no delete/edit.. only add or reset. I've flashed the previously posted MMSFix.zip, to no avail (complete with proper cache wipes). Not a big deal, but would be nice to have working.

- Camera sometimes has an upwards of 10 second refresh delay (between what's on screen and what's actually in front of the camera). Sometimes the camera stops responding immediately after a picture is taken and only works again after a power cycle, but sometimes it works fine. I'll provide a logcat if this is still an issue moving forward (after next release).

- Sprint Ghost/Phantom Voicemail - there used to be a cm setting to ignore/hide Sprint voicemail notifications. I'm one of many who use Google Voice for voicemail, and have that remedial ghost VM notification atop the screen, and it's pretty annoying and easy to focus on when everything else is running so smoothly!

Wrong thread, but we're all on the same page here so:
- CWM 3 (joker-recoveryv3.zip) ignores the .hidenandroidprogress file. This file can be created manually, or via ROM manager, and resides in the clockworkmod directory. If present, CWM does not display file names or a progress bar while performing a backup, and the result is usually a much faster backup routine. I've tried this file in both /sdcard/clockworkmod and /emmc/clockworkmod.

If you did not figure out MMS yet, I had to flash 0.3.1 to edit the APNs as 0.3.3 and higher did not allow me to edit them in open APN. Once they are changed (look at post 192 for instructions), just flash the desired rom on top and the APN changes should stick.

Or you could flash Th3Bill's modified 0.3.1 and you wont even have to edit the APNs. You can download his version from the CM9 fixes thread.

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Okay due to the recent changes in cm9 install process I am writing a short guide from my phone. A longer version is planned and will be posted on my site.

If you wipe system you must flash the rom twice. Anyone that has followed long enough remembers the double flashing days till I fixed it. Well its back.

So to update from any cm9 rom with wipe

    Factory reset
    Flash rom
    Flash gapps
    Simple.

To update from any cm9 without wiping.

    Flash rom
    Flash gapps
    Simpler.

To update from cm7, miui, gingerbread, etc

    Wipe system
    Factory reset
    Flash rom
Flash rom again(notice it takes longer)
    Flash gapps
    Profit

    What about dalvik cache?
Well it sits on data and is checked every boot. If it detects a change it will erase the old cache and rebuild. So if you do a factory reset you erase dalvik cache. If you upgrade versions without a wipe it magically erases dalvik for you.

    What about data or cache?
Factory reset wipes data, cache, and apks installed on any sdcards.

Why should I only wipe system if coming from a non-cm9 based rom?
Cm9 has install scripts that copy certain noncm parts from system, installs then puts it back. If nothing is there it can't copy. Thus flashing twice.

    When do I flash gapps?
    Every single time.

    My battery sucks?
Cm9 handles a lot more open apps then gingerbread. Multitasking is spectacular with ics. However running 70+ apps at once turns your phone into my ex and literally sucks the life out of your battery. This explains why there is such a drastic difference between battery life's with different users. Also keep in mind that we are using a froyo kernel, drivers from 3 different devices and none are ics tegra ap20 based, and this is still beta.

So why do people get an attitude with me?
Because you don't search or read. I purposely don't hold peoples hand. You must read at least some. There is always a risk with flashing anything custom. The more I baby people the dumber the questions get, however once stable I'll dumb it down to anyones level and tweak it to death. Currently I'm only going for a fully functional cm9. Then comes the fun

Look this isn't a stable rom. Its not completed. Currently I'm trying to get sw encoding going for the camcorder. Right now that is causing the camera to run sluggish. Oc and you'll be fine in landscape. Camera does work. You people do realize we have no ics kernel or drivers? The fact that it works at all is pretty good considering how many devices out there don't have ics at all much less have camera.

When I get time I'll make some revert flashables for people that don't like new test builds. I don't want 500000000 posts of flash this revert to get cm9 working. If you need what that revert has fine just don't direct everyone to only do it your way.

This is a beta development project. I will be experimenting and breaking perfectly good stuff to find better setups. By the time I'm done cm9 will be close to perfect.
