Can you post the usb drivers you used?
I enabled usb debugging (just in the settings by checking it on)
and ran the bat file but the the dos window just stays at "deamon started" .
Im running windows 7

Hiya, all I did was enabling the USB debugging in the smart pad prior connecting it to the USB port, then ran the bat file and everything went fine. I didn't make any change to Windows' default USB drivers, I used Win 7 too.
If it still doesn't work by enabling the debugging mode prior the connection, try to remove from windows' device manager the Memo pad driver when connected so once you disconnect and re-connect, it force windows to re-install the tablet's driver.
Hope my suggestion can help you, let us know how it goes! :)

PS. your memo pad is running on Android v.4.1.1, isn't it?

Thanks! for some reason it finally went through after a reboot.
yeah I'm on 4.1.1, going to upgrade though

I got it straight from Asus, I checked for updated before I rooted and there were none available. Then rooted and it told me I had updates available.

So I did the Voodoo ota root keeper install, installed the update, but couldn't recover root. So I just re-ran the root script and boom was rooted on 4.2.1

Voodoo worked fine for me after the OTA update to 4.2.1

Do you still have blue tooth? With root and 4.2?

Mine won't turn on :(

Just tested this, and you are right, Bluetooth doesn't respond. No biggie for me as I use BT only on my GNex phone (podcasts mostly), not on my tablet.

EDIT: here is the logcat output, maybe someone can make sense of what is going on...

I guess I feel better not being alone, but u use my tablet to play audio books in the car and not having BT sucks. Guess I need to see if Asus has a report problem system.

Which SU app are you using? Maybe it was why I couldn't recover root with voodoo?

Hello

I`ve got this tablet as a gift on my birthday.
I`m very happy, i think that was a good choice.

This is my first tablet, and first android gadget, so i have a lot of questions!!

What aplications you recomend?
Can we install aplications out of store? Free aplications, or paid aplications out of market, ho to?

Tkx

Hi all, I received as well the OTA update to 4.2 but being unable to make a nandroid backup first (after rooting I tried with Rom Manager and Rom Toolbox but no luck at all) I always wait few days as I'm worried of software bugs and the subsequent wait to receive a fix...although it looks like Asus is doing well with this model. :D

Looking around the web about the 4.2 update, in another forum I found this page: www_asus_co_jp/News/JBN7dlN6PIw8nbxK/ (can't post URL yet, change the _) where it mention a couple of issues fixed but I don't think those are applicable, haven't find any match of those production numbers with mine.

For those of you that already updated to v.4.2:
  • did you find any issue with the battery duration, HDMI port, BT or microphone?
  • can you confirm the launcher is different from v.4.1?
  • can you also confirm that screen layout will be reset to default so custom folders and widgets needs to be re-created?
  • Any other difference you noticed with the update?
It would be interesting to run a benchmark too to see whether there has been any performance improvement although I doubt.

Cheers! :)

OTA fails

OTA doesn't work for me. It downloaded the file, tried to install it (no root btw) and i got the Android on its back with the red exclamation mark.
Went back to factory settings, OTA....nothing.

Downloaded ROM file from ASUS, stuck it on the SDcard and put it in the tablet..nothing. I cannot frkn update :|

I think there is a problem with 4.2 update in rooted memo tab...
here in italy who has rooted the tablet has bluetooth problem after update (ota) to 4.2.
one of them has reinstalled 4.1.1 stock (download the firmware unpacked on SD card and make a manual "update") then the upgrade to 4.2 in manual mode (I don't know if it is impossible ota update or not...) and then rooted with motorchopped method: bluetooth now is fine ;)

perhaps it depends by OTA rootkeeper apk? there is the probability that otarootkeeper app installed in 4.1.1 release after root, takes some specs that make bluetooth "not working" in 4.2 release?

Upgrade to 4.2 while rooted

after putting update on both internal and external, and attempting about 30 times, it finally succeeded. now on 4.2.1

Hi asf58967 & All that managed to upgrade to 4.2 while rooted

Quick question:

1. Did you UNROOT(with SuperSU) or just proceeded with OTA while rooted?
2. Can you describe your steps on loading firmware with external SD

Thks a bundle

I UN rooted with supersu.
Unzipped the first level of zip... (The update is zipped twice
Put the update on internal SD and on an external SD
Did a factory reset from volume down power menu
Had it fail about 20 times... And miraculously it eventually worked.

PS - OTA NEVER worked. I dl'd the appropriate file from asus website. Asus tech support is a JOKE

What is cromi going to help me find out if i need NVFlash for ICS bootloader or NVFlash for JB bootloader? or to know if it's locked or unlocked? or getting Fastboot?

Some of these tutorials look easy but there not really detailed for unexperienced people that want to root... Examples: what will it do, how to know if you need this or this for that version or that version... You'll need this that will do this etc etc...

Thanks Hermit but I'm still stuck, I don't know if cromi is needed to root my tablet. The question is do i really need cromi to know that my tablet needs NVflash for ICS or JB bootloader, if my tablets unlocked or locked, and how to get fastboot.

If i do Cromi and it bricks my tablet i'm gonna be gutted because i use it alot so that's why i'm being extra carefull. I hope you don't mind that :D

Thanks again Hermit i'll keep that tutorial on the side for the mo.

You don't need NVFlash that's just a backup. You do not need Cromi.

Here's a step by step on how you will obtain root, Unlock your bootloader, AND get back to the latest update:

    1) Download the V10.6.1.25 for the US from ASUS

Once you downloaded it here's the instructions to downgrade:
    ~unzip it once
    ~rename unzipped zip to EP201_1024_SDUPDATE.zip
    ~ turn off tablet
    ~ place sdcard in slot
    ~ power + vol down
    ~ select RCK

Let it do its job and it should restart. Once you are back in Android check the version in Settings>About Phone
You should see it in Build number that it's 10.6.1.25 or something close to that.

Next turn on USB Debugging in the Developer Options.

If you do not see developer options in your settings go back to Settings>About Phone. Here tap the Build Number about 8 times and it'll grant you the DEV Options.

Once in there turn on USB Debug.

Install your ASUS ADB Drivers here: Drivers

Next, if you do not have the Android SDK installed (Assuming you know what this is) Install from this link: Link

That will install ADB and Fastboot (ADB is a Command Prompt Window while Fastboot is a program that ADB will use to run commands)

    Grab Mottochopper: MottoChopper 1.3

Extract it and put it on your Desktop.
Open the mottochopper Folder and double Click the run.bat or run file and follow the instructions.

At this point it should have installed correctly and you will not have ROOT :D

    Updating to the latest firmware!
In the playstore download Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper
Grant it Superuser permissions then backup root and TEMP Unroot it (This will save your root while you update)

    Go into Settings>About Phone
Tap Software Update and update yourself back up to the latest firmware.

Go back to Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and restore root and done :D

Optional: Unlocking your bootloader and Installing a Custom Recovery!

    Now for Unlocking your Bootloader!

Download this RAR file and Unzip the APK file: UnLocker
Drag the APK into your SD card then install it from the Tablet.

Follow the on-screen instructions and you will unlock your bootloader.

Once you have Unlocked your bootloader you may now install a Custom Recovery.
    Download TWRP .blob here:
    TWRP

    Plug in your device then~
Open Minimal ADB and Fastboot then type in:
    Code:
    ADB devices

You should see your device listed. If not you went wrong installing drivers somewhere...

If you got this far great
    type in next:
    Code:
    ADB reboot bootloader

Wait for your tablet to reboot and you should be back in the screen where you see RCK etc etc
    from there type in this:

    Code:
    fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery <Put a space here>
    ^DO NOT PRESS ENTER YET^

instead locate that TWRP file you downloaded and drag it into the command window
    Now press Enter.

When it's all done type this:
    Code:
    fastboot-i 0x0B05 reboot

Now you'll have a Custom Recovery to work with!

To get into TWRP simply turn off the device then hold down volume rocker down + Power button at the same time until it boots.

    Hi there!

My memopad is almost dead. It barely works. Every single thing I try to run takes a lot of time.
I wonder whether I could install a custom rom or something like that in order to update the old system.
    Please help me!!
