[ROM][ICS 4.0.4][27-Jun] Spacious, smooth and light ICS

Search This thread
The ICS rom is quite lag . 2.3 is the best ,super smooth.
I tend to agree with you.
Not that the UI lags for me - I am using APEX laucher, which seems far better than Sony's one.
But thinks start to get weird when you open heavy apps like Waze. To a point I could not listen to music and navigate at the same time! After some minutes the phone would simply restart or freeze - and this happened not only in this ROM, but also on I-Scream.
The solution I found was to OC the CPU to 1.4GHz. Still had some minor glitches on the music playing, but no restarts and freezes anymore.
I tried 1.8GHz also, but the phone simple burned after one hour drive!

Sad conclusion - I think that ICS is too much for our Neo!

Personally, I will continue to use it for some days to check its behavior. If the OC really solves it I think I can live with it. If not, I will go back to GB.

I've heard there are many bugfixes in 4.0.4. Hopefully we'll get our hands on that soon. ;)

7. Any disadvantages of ODEX'ed ROM?
The only disadvantage is that you cannot install custom themes on the ROM.
But, mind you, UOT kitchen can be used to change a lot of the UI.

.
Great Work, Just wanted to know how to use UOT kitchen for Neo...
I'm confused which ROM to select in the File Upload section.
Attaching screenshot.
Plz help.... :D :D :D

Use "Upload system files" option, and upload "framework-res.apk" from /system/framework and "SystemUI.apk" from /system/app folders

In continuation of the highly appreciated Spacious, smooth and light Gingerbread ROM, I present you the ICS version!!

1. What is so special about this ROM?
The main feature is 400 MB is free on /data for your apps!

attachment.php

This is the highest free on any custom ICS ROM for the Neo V.

2. How is this made possible?
a) This ROM has been ODEXed. Hence all dalvik files for system apk's are in the /system partition itself!
b) Dalvik-cache has been moved to the /cache partition.

3. Why ODEX the ROM?
a) ODEX ROM's load up faster the first time
b) ODEX'ed system apks do not create .dex files in dalvik-cache, hence size of dalvik-cache decreases. This is required so that there is enough room on the /cache partition for the dalvik-cache also.

4. What are the features of this ROM?
  • Based on official stock ICS firmware for Neo V
  • Rooted and busybox (latest su binary and Superuser.apk)
  • 12 Notification toggles with QuickPanel app for editing them - credit hansip87
  • Many bloatware apps removed
  • File manager (ES File explorer) added
  • Google maps navigation unlocked for the whole world - credits brutall, ownhere.
  • Battery life is very good (thanks to the Night-elf kernel)
  • UOT kitchen compatible

Addons:
new.gif
Performance tweaks - recommended
For more, see second post below

6. How to install this ROM.
  1. Copy Downloaded files to SD card.
  2. If you are on GB, flash official ICS firmware first! (for new baseband)
  3. Flash Night-elf's kernel for ICS (latest version RC2) [ Instructions ]
  4. Enter recovery by pressing the back key when you see the blue light.
  5. If you were not on stock/stock-based ROM, wipe Data is safer [ AFTER NANDROID BACKUP ]
  6. Format system. ( mounts and storage -> format /system )
  7. Install ICS_Spacious_Smooth_Light.zip.
  8. Reboot to you new Spacious, Smooth and Lightwieght ROM :)

7. Any disadvantages of ODEX'ed ROM?
The only disadvantage is that you cannot install custom themes on the ROM.
But, mind you, UOT kitchen can be used to change a lot of the UI.

8. But why not use Link2SD or Dalvik2SD?
It has its own problems, most important being io speeds from the card and problems when card is removed.

9. Why is "Premium" in the title?
Because there is no re-branding.. The about screen is exactly like stock ROM - no strange names there ;)

10. Credits?
hansip87 - for the status bar toggles
Sony - for ICS update ( and making wonderful firmware :) )
and all Devs etc on XDA for making custom ROMs possible!

11. No donate button?
This is my daily driver ROM, made for me.
Also, all credits to the kernel dev and all those who made custom ROM's possible!
If you still want to donate, please PM me for the link.

Please make on screen buttons for this rom..........

    Update!!

Update: Spacious, Smooth and Light v3
Based on Unofficial ICS 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431)

    Changelog:
    ---------------------------------------------
    -> Aroma installer options
    • Automatically detects sd-ext partition and offers Amarullz, Link2SD also
    • Default dalvik2cache if no sd-ext partition
    • On-screen keys mod (optional)
    • Sony specific widgets (optional)
    • Change default keyboard skin (optional)
    • Neo patch (optional) for Neo owners
    -> 30-steps volume + smooth scrolling spinner mod(credits BBangSik)

-> Statusbar widget, ICS themed keyboard, Auto-rotate home (credits hansip87)

    -> My performance tweaks

-> Themer friendly (Only selected system apps ODEXed, framework not ODEXed, hence easy to install mods and themes)

v3 Link will be back after fixing the installer issues some people are facing!

    Important Notes:
    -----------------------------------------------
-> Data wipe is recommended, otherwise boot-loops may occur.

-> For sd-ext to work you will need night-elf kernel

-> TAKE A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST!!

-> Dalvik2Cache is not recommended now unless you plan to install only 80-100 apps. If you want more, please use Amarullz or Link2SD.

-> If you want it even lighter, run the attached script (windows or linux pc) and wipe cache, reboot ;)

-> Please hit thanks on hansip87 and BBangSik threads also.
