1 As Always there is no Flaming, name calling or the such.
2 No question is too noobish, But please look for your answer first.

Now for the info needed to help. In your post make sure to included the version of the rom you are using, modem, kernel, ext...

Also please give it some time for your question to be answered.

I am subscribed to this thread. All questions will be answered as quickly as possible. If it is not possible for me to answer, someone else from Team Komin will. :)

What is Andromeda?
Andromeda is Giorgio Armani's private build. When Georgio Armani asked Samsung for a phone, the result was the GT-i9010 Armani. Then, when AT&T and Rogers asked Samsung to build a phone, the same hardware was given to them and called SGH-i897 and SGH-i896 respectively. The difference is that AT&T and Rogers added alot of bloatware to their packages. Andromeda is, in essence, a pure Captivate without advertisements, bloatware, and services which cost you money. Andromeda is maintained by Team Komin. It is designed to be the build you settle down with after you're done hopping around. It has all the creature comforts and luxuries you'd expect from a name like Armani.

Who is Team Komin?
Team Komin is a group of open-source developers and professionals who share an interest in our beloved Captivates. We bring the lovely mesh of Andromeda's unmatched speed and beauty to your phone.
People of Team Komin: http://code.google.com/p/teamkomin/people/list

What is Version 1, Version 2, and Andromeda3
Version 1 releases are unskinned. Version 2 releases are skinned. Andromeda3 was released after Version 1 and 2 to eliminate confusion.

Where can I find Andromeda?
We have our official builds here: http://files.teamkomin.com/
We have a mirror here: http://code.google.com/p/teamkomin/downloads/list
The current full release version is always here, bookmark it: http://files.teamkomin.com/Andromeda/AndromedaCurrent.zip

How do I install Andromeda?
Andromeda is a Clockwork mod package. Here are some directions for getting started. http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Here is a video which covers 2.2 installation.

I think i've found a bug! Where can I report it?
Right here. There are several other options:
Our 1.3 release discussion: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=12421385
Bug tracker: http://code.google.com/p/teamkomin/issues/list

You guys are open source, right? Where can I see the development?
Our kernels are developed here: https://github.com/TeamKomin
We package our distributions here: http://code.google.com/p/teamkomin/

I heard you have nightly builds, where are they?
Nightly builds, when active, are built at 0200CST and synchronized to the servers directly afterwards:
This was the last nightly built, it is generated, uploaded and symlinked at our servers at 2AM every night: http://files.teamkomin.com/Andromeda/AndromedaNightly.zip
Nightly Builds: http://files.teamkomin.com/Andromeda/nightlies/

What's a nightly build?
During the development process we like to test the rom. We make a build which is generated and transferred at non-peak hours... At night. We call them nightly builds. They are our automated system of alpha, beta and release candidate testing. They should be considered unstable and only for Developers, beta testers, and the brave. You will likely want to use Andromeda3. In the event that an issue is discovered, reported, and fixed, you may want to try a Nightly Build to see if it solved your problem.

So can I use this rom on my European I9010, as my device is very laggy in its default state.

Thanks

Thanks for prompt reply...Anything I should be aware of regarding modem and kernels - being a US build?

I was told Captivate kernels are different.

Here's the first dumb question

I flashed 1.2 and I really like the rom, but I would like the orange theme.

I read this at the start of the Amdromeda 1.2 thread.
From now on V2 ( themed version ) will be posted as 'update.zip' like a standard theme ...

Where do I find the update zip or otherwise get the orange theme?

We are working on completing the theme into CWM flashable zip. It shall be coming soon. ;)

Question about V2.1

Hey there folks. I'm a long time lurker. I just rooted my captivate and loaded Andromeda 2.1.

My question is in regards to the modems and the icons at the top of the screen. I am getting a lower case "h" above the data transfer icons, but it will occasisionally flash "3g" instead (and very briefly, perhaps less than a second each time). Does the "h" indicate EDGE service? Am I not getting 3G service? I have always had excellent 3g coverage coming from a Tilt 2 and my BB9700. Do i need to change my modem files? Currently KP1 is loaded. What do you folks think?
Thanks, Don

I want to keep this ROM, it has been good to me, but my work is making us use the app Good for Enterprise to access work emails and such. The problem is that that phone needs to be un-rooted. I tried to unroot with no success. I even locked out my PIN for the Good app. Anyway I searched here and did not see if it is possible. Any help would be great as I do not want to go back to stock, and as per usual I dont know what I am doing.

You would need to remove /system/bin/su and /system/app/superuser.apk

    Sent from my HTC PH39100

I'm not clear on all the wording/etc., so I apologize in advance if this is a noob question. I've been running Andromeda3 for a few weeks now and I really like it. However, I have noticed that I no longer have any data access. Wifi works, but I can't get any data through my carrier. I no longer see the 3G or H in the top (title bar?).

I see various discussions about modems, but not sure what I should do. This was my first flash and data was working fine (stock ROM) before. I am on Rogers.

Go back and check out post 440 on this thread.
Go to settings > wireless and network > mobile networks (scroll down) > access point names > click menue then New APN > then fill in the info from post 440
My network mode is GSM/WCDMA (auto mode).
I'm on rogers too. I get the E for edge, but not the H.

    1. Anyone considering trying one of the newer GB ROMS? If so, which one and why?

Tempted a little. Not really considering it, at least not yet. Andromeda is completely stable for me. Someone said give it a couple of weeks; I say give it a couple of months.

    2. How hard will it be to flash back to Andromeda3? (if the grass is not greener on the other side)
I have read much of the thread about Continuum, as well as most of them about Mosaic and Mikey's GR-9, 10, 11...Many of the problems see to be the result of inexperience/impatience. That is why I am gathering information before deciding to flash.

To install one of the JVB roms requires flashing 2.3.3 bootloaders. To return to Andromeda requires flashing 2.1 or 2.2 bootloaders. It is now known that it is fairly safe to do this if you understand the process and don't do something stupid. (Flashing bootloaders is never really safe, but we've been doing it right along with Oden 3 One Click.) It is essential to flash both bootloaders together going each way. To return to Andromeda from 2.3.3, flash back to JF6 with Oden 3 One Click, then install Andromeda 3, then restore your nandroid backup. That's not so hard.

Hard bricking is possible going back and forth if you flash only one bootloader and wind up with mismatched bootloaders. This would result in a true hard brick. The 3 button fix package flashes only sbl.bin but not boot.bin. Three people reported bricking their phones in the Continuum thread from flashing back to stock with the three button fix. As I understand it, some roms, for example Cognition, also include a boot loader in the flash and can result in a hard brick.

    Don

yes. h is technically faster than 3g thanks to higher upload speeds and less ping response time
