[ROOT] Galaxy Mega 6.3 - GT-I9205 and GT-I9200
__________________________________________________

This is a rootable Galaxy Mega 6.3 kernel compiled from the official Samsung sources with
su and busybox binaries added to the initramfs.
The boot.img.tar file can be flashed with Odin as PDA.
Keep Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time selected.
To complete the setup Superuser.apk from SuperSU 1.34 must be installed separately.

While this kernel is compiled from the GT-I9205 sources it is confirmed to work on the GT-I9200 device too (see posts below).

Use at your own risk, I'm not responsible for bricking your device.

As nobody has published a custom rooted ROM for the Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9205) so far,
I compiled a rootable kernel from the official Samsung sources and added the su and
busybox binaries to the initramfs.

This is for the Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9205) only.

1 i flashed this kernel
2 installed SuperSU 1.3.4
3 flashed the official kernel from Samsung
4 still have root access!

some people flashed this kernel on the i9200 model and it worked, you can flash the original kernel after that and you will still have root

I have the i9200 and confirm that this worked. I am now rooted. I have to admit it was scary taking the plunge. I just bought the device yesterday and was contemplating returning it. Did not want to brick my phone and have no recourse but it worked. I am now installing application on my device that require root and they are working.

Good to hear that it also works on the GT-I9200.
Do you use my kernel or did you go back to the stock kernel after rooting?

Does this phone even work in the us on T-Mobile

ss beanz T989

According to Phone Arena, the phone supports the following bands:

GSM:850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz

UMTS:900, 2100 MHz

Note, the 1900 band is not under the UTMS, so I'm not sure if you will be able to get HSPA+ if you are in a t-mobile area that has been refarmed.

This is from Samsung's website under specs for the galaxy mega 6.3:

HSPA+ 21/5.76 850/900/1900/2100
EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900

I have the i9200 version of the phone and am using it on T-Mobile in NYC. I can confirm that I have gotten HSPA+ speeds as high as 12mbps download and 3.5mbps upload (although it's inconsistent - I think it has to do with the towers and the refarming of band 1900 - I also think we need someone to port an HSPA+ supported modem from a T-Mobile device over to this phone so we can have consistent speeds with signal stability).

Here is an example of the inconsistency: within a 15 mile drive my signal will fluctuate between HSPA+, Edge, G and, in certain spots, no cell or data signal at all. I'll get that full gamut of fluctuation all right within the 5 boroughs of NYC.

Just flash with PC Odin in download mode(VolDown+Home+Power).

Root working fine.

But, below 2 red lines showing on boot screen(while showing samsung boot logo).

wp_status_check sector:0 ; wp_status_buffer:0x0000000aaaaa
wp_status_check sector:0 ; wp_status_buffer:0x0000000aaaaa

This is shown on all devices using this kernel. I have not noticed any adverse effect so far.

Can someone please post a stock kernel TAR for the 6.3 MAE firwware? I would like to try and flash back just the stock kernel and see if i can get screen mirroring to work again.
Samsung has this annoying habit to block screen mirroring from working when running a custom Kernel or a custom recovery.
