For me, Clockwork has been a more reliable Nandroid backup tool, but I'm not exactly sure why.
With Clockwork, I can easily backup and restore without issue.
With Ra, I haven't had much success with restoring from my backups. What are the essential parts to backup using Ra (since it gives me choices), assuming I want to completely resurrect an install? Check everything?
When I've tried to restore in Ra, I've done one successful restore, and two unsuccessul ones (fortunately, I had some recent Clockwork backups to fall back to). But I don't know why Ra failed. I didn't touch any of the files after backing up (no name changes, location changes, or anything). My SD card has ample space (>4GB) free. There was a message about an error log, but I don't know how to access it, or what the error messages might mean.
This is, I'd like to use Ra, since it seems more adept as flashing other items and the SD partition and extension controls seem more accessible.
