Hello Mate 20 Pro fans, this is a thread which should help all unlocked users!
Lets dive right into it..

1. Firmware Collection
NOTE: all of the firmwares provided are full ones, no partial ota updates. I recommend viewing this thread in your Browser for one-click-direct links.
last updated: 22.02.19

2. Installing Updates/Restoring to stock
NOTE: I do not take any responsibility what you flash to your device.
I recommend to not downgrade to a previous EMUI version - it might trigger a brick.
This has been tested on my Mate 20 - i upgraded sucessfully to B171 -> B183 -> B188.

  1. Install the app i wrote from here (EMUI Flasher 1.2)
  2. Make sure you are rooted
  3. Select the update_full_base.zip you downloaded (the second firmware file can be ignored)
  4. Tap flash button - device should restart to recovery and install the update

3.1 Rooting (Simple way)
NOTE: you need a unlocked bootloader, those can be bought online for ~30 bucks

  1. Download the recovery ramdisk image i patched in magisk manager here
  2. Flash the image to recovery ramdisk through fastboot
    (Command: fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk.img)
  3. Reboot and keep the Vol+ button pressed to start to recovery mode (Don't worry, it will boot to system anyway)
  4. install latest magisk manager canary build - download here
  5. Enjoy magisk

hey,

you can update although you are rooted? after the update is finished is the rooted boot.img still there or do i have to flash it again? And nothing gets deleted? (in best case?)

you have to reflash the patched_boot.img to recovery_ramdisk (via fastboot) after an update to regain root access.
Your userdata should stay intact - atleast it did for me when upgrading from B171 -> B183 -> B188.

Regards

I tried updating my phone to 188 but now it seems to be stuck in a boot loop and I can't seem to get out :(
I was previously on 182. I have an LYA-029 C636 (if that makes a difference)

I tried flashing another image but it still won't boot. I then tried selecting "Download latest version and recovery" in eRecovery but got an error getting package info from server.
I don't know what to do :(

EDIT: All good got it working again. Found my original 182 image that I got from auras76 thread and flashed it again and also flashed the patched_boot.img. Fixed.

EDIT2: Actually.. it's not completely fixed. Chrome doesn't seem to open anymore for some reason.. and safetynet fails both basic integrity and cts profile :(

EDIT3: So I ended up having major issues and soft bricked my phone after a factory restore failed. I had to buy a credit from FH and used their method to restore the phone to 187. Was an absolute pain. I'm not sure if I did something wrong when I used your app initially but I'm reluctant to try it again. I'm currently re-rooted and just going to chill on FH's 187 firmware for now.

Do I need to follow your sequence (B171 -> B183 -> B188) or I can just install the last update (188)? I am on a 182 version now...

Also, there is no difference for location? My one is C636.
