Not sure if anyone is keeping up with this thread but I am attempting to change out the 3G icons on the gingerbread leak for the Droid X and can't for the life of me find the icons to change in the drawable-hdpi folder all of the other icons that I could want to change from the status bar seem to be there but nothing about the 3G icons any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows how to switch out the motorola sms notification bar icon for the AOSP icon I would really appreciate that as well I am assuming that could be done through ninjamorph too but I am not sure where to look for that icon

these icons are now found in SystemUI.apk

for message icons look in systemui.apk, framework-res.apk, moto-res.apk, or blur.apk in the /res/drawable-hdpi folder most likely found as stat_notify_sms.png

I found the icons to switch out but as soon as I did it the whole status bar force closed and I had to restore a backup so not really sure what I did wrong but it does not seem to work. Would it be possible to for someone to make a simple .zip for people to use that would change the 3G icons to 4G and the 1x to 3G i think that would be pretty cool and I am sure a lot of people would use it

Can I use this on any other device? I don't have this particular phone but I want the LTE icon on my phone too.

Thanks,

Matt

Yes but it may be in a different location and it may be named different, it has to be the same exact name as the file its replacing. If ninjamorph doesn't work on your device you can swap the files in the theme or Rom you want to run before you flash it

I'm trying this on the Samsung Fascinate and I keep getting stuck on the "Working, please wait" screen in Ninjamorph, am I doing something wrong?
EDIT:Got it to work with USB debugging turned on, reset my background and logged me out of a bunch of stuff tho...

Ok so maybe im retarded but I cant get this to work. Debugging is enabled and I have gone to the correct folder. None of the 3g icons are listed. however obviously they are on the phone because it says 3g when it is connected. Can someone please tell me what im doing wrong?

What kind of phone are you trying this on? If the 3g icons are not visible in the folder you need to edit them in, your probably in the wrong folder or depending on your phone, different location.

I've been trying this on the gingerbread leak for the droid X but there's one problem... When I try step 5 and go into /res/drawable-hdpi the file: stat_sys_data_connected_3g.png. is not there... none of the 4 different icons is there.. I've done a sweep of the entire folder 5 times. Is it possible they could be relocated to another folder or possibly hidden from view on this 2.3 leak for the DX?

It is possible!! And that's actually the case. On GB, these files are located in the \system\app\SystemUI.apk.

Just as an aside, it should be noted that certain status bar icons are split between both the SystemUI.apk and the framework-res.apk. For instance, if you wanted to change the GPS indicator, there are two icons that actually need to be replaced. The "searching for GPS" indicator and the "connected GPS" indicator.

When you initially activate GPS (assuming you turn it off) and load an app that requires GPS (i.e. Google Maps), it will actually flash back and forth between both icons. Once a solid connection is established, it will stick with that one. The two icons are split between SystemUI and Framework-res...

It takes a little experimenting, but you can eventually find all of the icons you needs to replace.

Also, I definitely recommend learning how to ADB and push and pull the .apk files and extract them with 7Zip. In the long run, it's so much easier to modify the icons this way, then with using something like Ninjamorph.

I decided to compile my own how-to. It's not a one click solution but it's still easy if you can follow simple directions. It's also safe, effective and looks great when 3G service is connected. It also allows the change of only the icon so if you are running a custom rom or other icons, the icon pack won't be changed.

The guide looks long but it's just well broken down to make it very easy.

Your not going to get 4G LTE :p, so please, trolls can troll else where. This is simply something new to look at, lets begin!

*** This will only change the 3G Icon to 4G LTE, nothing else ***
USB Debugging must be checked. Settings>Applications>Development>check the USB Debugging box.

Please make a Nandroid or backup. Using a custom ROM or theme may cause your wallpaper to revert back to stock when phone restarts. Please make sure you place the icons on the root of your SD Card to begin, you can always move them around later.

Thanks to Funnyface19 for the custom colors :)

    Steps:

#1. Download the four files I have listed. It's the only four you need to change your icon. They have been named the correct file name already, place them anywhere that you can easily access them on your SD Card.

#2. Download & install Stericson's NinjaMorph from the market.

#3. Start NinjaMorph ( It will run a quick check, tap yes ) and tap on New Project.

#4. Navigate to /system/framework/framework-res.apk (Files will be extracted and a backup is created automatically)

#5. Go into /res/drawable-hdpi and find your stock 3G icon which will be named stat_sys_data_connected_3g.png.

#6. Tap on the file and it will ask you to find the image you want to replace it with in a new screen ( your SD Card root ).

#7 Find the file with the 4G LTE connected logo named stat_sys_data_connected_3g.png , tap it.

** Please make sure your icons actually apear. It will show the icon when you go to select it. If it's not valid, a big X or nothing, please do not continue and let me know. Just a small precaution to take.**

#8. You will get a warning asking if you're really sure you want to replace it, tap yes. A little window will quickly flash " item should have been replaced, what do you want to change now? "

#9. Repeat the process, tap res/drawable-hdpi, find your stock 3G in icon named stat_sys_data_in_3g.png, tap it.

#10. Find the file with the 4G LTE inlogo named stat_sys_data_in_3g.png , tap it.

#11. You will get a warning asking if you're really sure you want to replace it, tap yes. A little window will quickly flash " item should have been replaced, what do you want to change now? "

#12. Repeat the process, tap res/drawable-hdpi, find your stock 3G inandout icon named stat_sys_data_inandout_3g.png, tap it.

#13. Find the file with the 4G LTE inandout logo named stat_sys_data_inandout_3g.png , tap it.

#14. You will get a warning asking if you're really sure you want to replace it, tap yes. A little window will quickly flash " item should have been replaced, what do you want to change now? "

#15. Repeat the process, tap res/drawable-hdpi, find your stock 3G out icon named stat_sys_data_out_3g.png, tap it.

#16. Find the file with the 4G LTE out logo named stat_sys_data_out_3g.png , tap it.

#17. Tap on the blue arrow on the bottom right corner.

    #18. Tap on Finish Project.

#19. Tap on framework-resapk (NinjaMorph will now package/create the apk).

#20. You will get a warning asking if you're sure you want to overwrite the apk, tap yes.

#21. You will now get a warning asking if you want to zipalign, tap no.

#22. Tap ok on the next warning.

#23. It will ask you if you want to delete the project, you can choose what you want. ( I choose no )

Your phone will now reboot itself with the new icons in place. Enjoy!

I did this on Liberty 1.5 with the frost theme and I have no clock now, actually I think its there but the color changed. Any one know how to fix it?
    CAP2011020317101.jpg

It shouldn't have changed anything unless Liberty 1.5 is so custom, they messed with the res.apk files compltely. Try a cache whipe and a restart and see what happens.

On your SD Card, there's a file named AndroidThemes. Tap it, go to back up and the top file, framework-res.apk. That's your back up. Tap it and it should flash back the system folder to what it was before you changed the icon.

im running liberty 1.5 with a custom theme.

I tried to change the icon, everything went well and the phone rebooted. However, when the phone powered back on, the 3G is still there. Is it the fact that my theme is all custom'd out?

Depends where you saved it. It needs to be on the root of the sd card. Liberty 1.5 seems to be highly tweaked.

It seems that folks are having issues with the new Liberty 1.5. I don't know why.

Funnyface, do you have any issues changing the 4G symbol? Assuming you are running 1.5 :)

LoL! That must have been the last wallpaper you had or your phone's stock wallpaper. Apparently on some phones with custom ROMS and themes, the wallpaper gets reverted back to stock and why we will never know. I am not a Ninjamorph speacialist

It's ok, so you like dandelions, not a biggie :p

I'm not sure about other roms or stock rom but on liberty there is a default wallpaper in the res folder where we are changing the 3g icon so when it installs it reverts back to that default wallpaper.
