IMO it would still be nice to have a graphic indicator that MiX is in that mode, perhaps not as intrusive as a bright orange border but maybe an icon in the location bar indicating advanced mode is invoked.
I would wish it to be really subtle (if at all), as I run in "danger mode" all the time (to be honest, I've lost track of what is meant by "that mode"). But it being subtle would be counter to the purpose. To me, its a file manager, its inherently dangerous. It would be like painting a gun bright purple with florescent yellow stripes; the user should know they are holding a weapon that could cause very serious damage. Just my opinion.

Fair enough and I won't engage the part of that which is at the irreconcilable hub of the debate but.. An icon up there in that empty space between the location and the menu and in the same color as the skin/theme, would be minimally intrusive, and unlike my suggestion for the bright orange boundary this icon would have been preceded by an atypical set of actions to put the app in developer or admin mode.

Or... how about something like this: Homer Simpson's "Everything Is Okay" alarm which blares high volume siren and a voice repeatedly shouting "everything is okay" as long as MiXplorer is in non super duper danger mode. :silly:

[EDIT] Disclaimer: although I still don't want this capability in the app, almost everything I've suggested since pitching my case for the core part of the debate has been in the (attempted) interest of the other point of view and those unhappy with the current method. I'd rather strengthen my case for the core, but won't. I just dont want folks to think I'm arguing for something I actually want here. ;)

This in itself is not really that helpful. Try adding a log, or at the least add the version of mixplorer you are using and the OSs version of your phone.

I'm continually coming up against inexplicable failures, for example while renaming files. Neither the toast nor the log helps in the slightest.

Here's an example:

I've deliberately included a bunch of successful attempts, in order to illustrate how random this problem is. I'm in a directory [on one of my network drives] and I'm batch-renaming files. Sometimes it fails immediately, renaming 0 files; other times, some are renamed, then it fails; other times, if I choose only certain files [and the logic to this is a mystery], they'll proceed successfully.

The files are identical in every possible way, i.e., they're on the same computer, in the same subdirectory, their permissions are the same, they're being renamed the same [like "%N_some_stuff_070420"].

The thing that JUMPS out at me in the log, for the failures, is the DOS-style path delimiters, i.e., backslashes, when there's nothing but Linux in this house.

Is this a known bug? Is there a fix? Working with thousands of files and continually bumping up against this is a pain!

With 6.46, finally, one tap on delete button sent the objects to trash with no prompt. There was no risk.

Now with 6.47, the prompt came back. What a time waste. Just add an option in settings to let user choose what happens when one tap on delete:
- send to trash
- permanent (risky)
- prompt

Another option or information should precise the time an object stay in .recycle before permanent deletion. Is there one ?

You might be interested in the recent discussion about this in the last 5-10 thread pages. Some people feel there should be no option for a no-prompt-permanent-delete, and other people feel that there should be the option. For now it seems that the developer is avoiding the no confirmation permanent delete.

Since debating to simply change people's minds in toto is unlikely be productive people have been suggesting ideas to make the current method more tolerable to those who don't like it.

Also IIRC, we still have no example of another file manager on touch screen devices with the same capabilities as MiXplorer having a no-prompt-permanent-delete. For comparison, do you know of any?

A few other FMs I've tried have a solution to the 'no-confirmation delete' issue that, while not being what I [and other power users] want, I could live with it in MiX. What they've done is let you delete without an über-annoying 'are you sure?!' prompt--but you must be using its recycle bin for this to work, and have its prompting turned off.

I can work around that if it's implemented in MiX; I'll simply automate a daily sweep of its recycle bin directories. So I'd get my silent deletions and, once my sweep occurs, the files would be permanently gone, without having to manually mess with a recycle bin.

This whole thing has struck me as incredible...really unbelievable. It's a feature, an option, not the end of the world.

The first thing I learned 35 years ago on UNIX was that delete means delete. So if you're about to issue an 'rm -rf' command on a directory, be well and truly sure you're in the right place and you really want those files gone--because there's no going back. I'd never heard of, or wanted, a silly 'recycle bin' until having to administer a few windows boxes at work. It struck me as an insult to the user's intelligence. Clearly, not everyone shares that feeling.

If this is such a big deal, maybe Hootan can put out two versions: one for extreme power users who neither want nor need any handholding, and one for everyone else. At first running [only] of the power-user version, display a disclaimer, like the attached screenshot, which the user must acknowledge. Problem solved.

This is a very important topic, and I think the developer is aware about that. I learned, that the developer always made the wisest decision, especially referring to important topics like this one. I appreciate anyway your feature request even if I am among those users that prefer to be careful when deleting files, and I have also some suggestions about handling deleting warnings, but better avoiding to create additional debates...
Finally I suggest you to ignore such comments or posts I find totally unfair... this happens often in this thread, sadly I would say

FAQ Update

Mod Edit: OT portion removed

-------
Getting back to business. Over the past several weeks there's finally been some worthwhile movement in the FAQ. In short: new material, reorganization, function-specific nuggets created or found and referenced from the OPs, while the OPs remain focus more on things new users would experience first such as the general UI and managing bookmarks. Still a work-in-progress. More details here:

Breaking out the Bluetooth question

Bluetooth Bookmark question:
Here is a question about Bluetooth bookmarks which came up while I was recently reviewing the FAQ. A few years ago I had configured a Bluetooth bookmark which allowed the management of files across the Bluetooth connection in the full MiX interface but have since forgotten how to configure it (how resolve the username and password). Does anyone know how to create a Bluetooth bookmark to access material on another device in the Mix file list (as opposed to selecting a file and sending via Bluetooth)? Thanks.

Unfortunately, no. I would have to live with this app behavior about file deletion no matter what I think about it. But I said it and other users did.

Move on. Other than that, I’m happy with MiX.

Rename of regex for add number does't work
also try to remove in rename "a" all "a" is gone
ex) regex name %N to remove "%A." then
removed full name of each of "%, A, ."

if file name is >> %A.appleapple.doc
remove to >> ppleppledoc

@HootanParsa would you consider adding pinch-to-zoom to text editor as HTML Viewer?

Maybe the idea mentioned a while ago to add a rich text editor and let the text editor be, should be considered, because requests like yours keep adding up. The most recent one was to add working links. And neither will be the last for sure. I'm surprised adding embedded images has not been requested yet, seriously -- some are using the view mode ( already an extra in a text only editor ) as an e-reader of sorts.

A "text editor" really should be a text editor, no formatting, media / visual features, hypertext, etc. Or maybe add all these features and future ones to the heavier "code editor" already present ? Or at least stop calling it text editor ! ^_^ ( Don't kill me. )

First of all I want to say thanks for the great app, I use it all the time and it's the best File Explorer on Android by far. I have a suggestion for the SMB plugin though:

Windows 10 has a Administrative Network Share for each partition set by default that it needs for Remote Windows Sessions. These shares are denoted as C$, D$ etc. depending on how many partitions you have. They are inaccessible by normal means as it should be and normally also hidden, however MiX with the SMB plugin shows them along with regular Samba shares if accessing a Windows 10 PC.

Could MiX maybe get an option to hide these shares to reduce clutter?

Looks like the project is dead.
I was about to buy it (support the project) untill I read when the last update was released.
I've already replied to this exact post but doing so again, just for context.

All the extra comments and discussion relating to this and other posts of yours in here can be ended easily. You either like the app, so you use it. OR you don't like the app, so you probably shouldn't use it. It's simple.

You've said that you thought the project was dead. Me and others have informed you that that's not the case but you don't seem happy enough with that.
If there was a major issue with the app it would be solved. Most things that may happen probably have a viable workaround. The dev is a regular person to and definitely doesn't have to spend all of their time on here just so people know it's not a dead project.

Whether you were going to buy it is irrelevant. Even if you did buy it, it still doesn't entitle you to quicker updates.

It seems you've already made up your mind about this app though and we're probably not gonna convince you otherwise and vice versa.
    9
@dd0bb create an app, publish it and share it for free for millions of users, now go back and rewrite 1000s of lines of code so your app functions across the board on all android devices across all platforms and OS's and every android build. Now on top of that add in 1000s upon 1000s of new lines of code and libs and resources and assets to implement new features and requests, while fixing bugs. Now do this every month when Google drops an update so your app continuously works across the board, all while keeping a tiny imprint on the ecosystem and not breaking functionality on older devices. Now try to work around all new security features that block root access or take away vulnerabilities so you can't access certain paths anymore. Now even after all that, make sure you are abiding by Google's rules and regulations,(archaic) and making sure all your credits and licenses are in order, push out a few alphas to test. Move on to private betas, and then possibly public power user betas, and hopefully soon after a working public release. If you skip any of this and start breaking devices or Google pulls your app or it is flagged as being malware or harmful, over 10 years of work could be lost forever. If Hootan wanted out, MiX easily could be sold to top bidder ala ES file explorer was to CM. And everyone knows what happened there. Anyways support development because you feel you should, for what you are using at that moment, now for what you may or may not get in the future.
    7
I understand but I m not a fanboy. Look what Ultramanoid said. He compare a dead trash app with MiXplorer and talk about beta releases :D Thats ok but to ask why the last update is 7 months ago, thats not ok.
I tried a lot of files manager in the past and I legitimately can say MiX is best and the most complete. If you wanna call me fanboy, do it...but well you are here too right? Why? 🤔 Perhaps because you find MiX the best too? ..otherwise you wouldn't mess around about your placebo needs.
Total commander is the trash app you talking about? Maybe for you, some others find it good. Calling such app trash...says a lot.
I m a noob but this update was released before Android 14 was released and few new devices from Xiaomi, Samsung, etc was released.
Let's stick to you are a noob and that's ok but you need to open your eyes to read and understand what most people here trying to tell you. You clearly have a connection to your mind about new android devices releases with app updates. That's totally wrong......
The app isn't working fine in your devices? WHAT PROBLEM DO YOU HAVE? YOU HAVEN'T TOLD US YET...
That sounds bad for me. I really thought it is a dead project.
Well...and you got the answer that is not and this is how Hootan works all these years.
X-plore exist for 2 decades and I use it on Symbian. What that means? Nothing! Today they collect data and show ads even if you pay. Btw last update was 3 weeks ago.
You came to my words. These updates means nothing.....if there is no need.
Than you said "fix MOST of the bugs".
    Come on... :D
Still you didn't told us what bugs you encounter.. Or you told us? None! The app is working pretty fine in your devices you just overanalyze your placebo need about updates.
And this is your prime here! Thats the dumbest I ever read here on XDA, by far!

I am the dude which is not often here and don't care about "here you can get the app for free" like 95% of all Android users. It doesn't matter if it is 1 or 100 bucks for the app, because I can spend it to another dev.
The dumbest thing I ever read is your twisted logic about app updates.

Look you have 2 options: pay some bucks to get the app in Play Store along with addons or get it manually for free here and don't pay anything.

None forcing you to pay for something. Spend your money to any dev you want without making a drama scence. If you like the app use it free or paid, if not uninstall and bb.

I don't understand why you make it big deal? Jesus....
Like I said. I thought the project is dead. I check the linked Twitter profil, for some beta, when he was last time online and so on.
You need to understand this is a standalone dev and not a company to make promotion posts in socials etc. His time is limited and spreaded to his real job / real life and to this app.
I don't find any bugs, just some on Google TV but still it's not a big problem.
Good, excellent, fantastic, amazing!....then I guess you need to calm down your needs for meaningless updates.
You need to think like a "normal user".
Oh.. I actually always try to think like a normal user, because I am a normal user...
Stable release of the app, Android 14 released, few new devices like Xiaomi 14, Samsung S24 and so on and months later still no updates. Even if I find some bugs I would think "useless, dead project".
Your twisted logic is completely wrong, makes no sense. You need to separate these realeses you have in your mind with app updates. This is not how the things works, only in your mind...
What Samsung 24 or Xiaomi 14 have to do with app updates.... 🙆🤷🤦
    8
You need to think like a "normal user".

Well, you don't. The vast, vast, vast majority of "normal users", and we're talking billions of people, haven't a clue of what version of Android they're running, much less what a file manager even is. iPhone / Samsung is as far as they get telling things apart.

Use MiX, don't use MiX -- let's end the useless running around in circles here, please. Do as you wish, and have a good day.

    Hello and good morning, @ledagiw

If you're too lazy to search prior to posting you demonstrate your unwillingness to follow the XDA Forum Rules, to which you agreed to adhere when you registered a year ago. After a year, please consider to review them and note paragraph one:
    1. Search before posting.

Use one of our search functions before posting or creating a new thread. Whether you have a question or just something new to share, it's very likely that someone has already asked that question or shared that news.
It's irrelevant why you don't want to follow the rules but if you don't it will eventually lead to consequences to your account. I'm convinced this is something you want to avoid.

The project is far from dead. HootanParsa regularly takes extended breaks from XDA, months at a time sometimes, but is brilliant with catching up with feature requests/bugs/etc. when they return. For the extent at which most users will use MiXplorer, everything still works great. Obviously there may be some niche issues and the odd request here and there but everything works more than fine, for the most part

Your post is no. #43,838. That's a strong indicator for the passion and long standing development and support from the developer - despite some breaks in between. You'll have difficulties to find another app having a longer history than MiXplorer. And of course, I cannot speak for the developer, but I'm quite sure, there will be updates in the future. So there are good reasons to support the developer now and in the future.

Please put your shovel away as it is not helping you. You used incognito mode as an excuse and you got reasonably called out. Throughout you were willfully ignorant of or unwilling to follow rules which all of us agreed to follow, as if some exception should be made for you. There's no reason, particularly your own laziness and lack of contribution, which should be anyone else's motivation to do your work for you. You had a chance to participate and learn about a significant development topic but refused to do your part. Any failing in this regard is yours.

As to the topic about which you inquired, if the available documentation does not answer your questions or if it is not clear (it is a indeed a bit sprawling) then feel free to inquire about it or provide feedback in the FAQ https://xdaforums.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/. You already have the links for Google and XDA search and you did not even have to do any of the legwork to get those. ;)

You said "use an alternative" in your post.

Is there any possibility to open a different viewing app out of MiXExplorer instead of ImageViewer which would allow swiping through the whole folder?

If I click "open with" and choose Google Photos for example only the one picture opened opens in Google Photos and I cannot swipe through the whole folder like I can in ImageViewer.

Google severely restricts access to files, MIX's image viewer can handle viewing files better because it has permissions to handle all files. Use a gallery application that you can give permissions to handle all files to, for instance this one, open-source, with no trackers or malvertising :
