It semt to work - but did not work for me !

I have a Nook 1.4.0 that was tweaked to sideload apps. Then with 1.4.2, I mad eseveral attemps to root with indirect method, Albert, Brian. I got some kind of different suystem now but than never worked (neither USB debugging, nor Martket, nor APK installs)

So I tried this acclaim-update.zip and the process semt to go very smooth (installing new software etc). Unfortunately, when it starts again, I get the same broken system as before.
I dont know what do to...

---------- Post added at 01:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:46 AM ----------

PS: ARG - the procedure did not work, yet it seems the N button does no longer work!

So I tried the 8 times reboot with N+Power, and that one relaunched some kind of reinstall that indeed seems to have reset everything to 1.4.0!

Thanks :)

Oh, I need serious help again...

My Tablet is now in no-mode (keeps stocked on B&N "read forever screen) and this resttore no longer works.

- Yesterday, I restored 1.4.0 using this thread method. Worked
- Then I used Albert Wertz s Backup of a rooted 1.4.0 from here
It seems has already OTA bloked
- Then I was to install CM7, and used the CWM flasher apk. That is where somewhere I did a mistake, after backing up and erasing all data, I somehow got in trouble, and restored the old 1.4.0 B&N
- Now I am willing to go back to stage 0, but when I try using this restore it does not work anymore, I guess because my build.prop has been changed in the process
It says "assert.failed: getprop ("ro.product.device" = blaze or somehthing alike.
- The curse is, I cant use other restores I bhave (for some MD5 mismatch after redoing cards etc
- I also cant use ssimple root procedures, as my basic system is coorrupted.

I am lost!
Really would like some help, I'd like find someone I could even pay to coach me back to track!

If I used team - b final version of cynogen 7 internally for my 16 gb nook tablet, can I still use Acclaim_upadate.zip to get back to original software. If so can I use it using the recovery mode( install zip from sd card) instead of formatting the sd card And putting the zip file in the root of sd card.

I tried with 2gb scan disk card( fat 32) and it's taking me to recovery mode. When I tried to install zip from sd card I am getting this below error. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Use this with a 4gb sdcard min. , that has been said before and i think is in OP aswell.
This should work over any rom you have installed but first is better if you flash stock recovery by using recovery flasher app by @Indirect (easiest way), dd, terminal emulator app or fastboot (cyanoboot feature).

after some investigation - factory.zip in /factory is identical to acclaim_update.zip which is different from nook_tablet_1.4.2.zip in the presence of a 423 byte header at the beginning.

So for 8GB units if you do

dd if=nooktablet_1_4_2_update.zip of=acclaim_update.zip bs=423 skip=1

you can get the same effect as long as your MLO & u-boot are OK, to fix that look for succulents cwm and zips in github

Newbie question. Just got a Nook Tablet which came with 1.4.3. Can I just follow the instructions in the first post to "downgrade" to 1.4.0? I just want to add the ability to sideload apps and I'm happy.

Any risk I should be aware of? Of the downgrade that is, not the risk of installing random apps.

This will only downgrade. You will have to root separately. Follow this link
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1488035
Does both for you.

Sent from my ST21i using xda app-developers app

I have tried like a dozen times to download the acclaim_update.zip file in the first post. It keeps stopping at 259 out of 260MB.

What gives?

EDIT: I got the file downloaded finally.

I powered off my Nook Tablet (16GB), copied the file to my blank 4GB SD card, and inserted it into the Nook.

Then I powered on.

And it boots to CWM. I have CWM installed my EMMC. So how to I return this to stock?

So now stock is running but my screen doesn't respond to touch input

EDIT:

So I guess sometime in the past I updated the firmware for the touchscreen.

So I guess I have to start from scratch and create a bootable CWM SD Card, reload CM10, then downgrade the touchfirmware to whatever stock was.

The problem is I cannot seem to find clear and concise instructions on how to create a bootable CWM SD card. I must have downloaded and tried a dozen or different files from various sources, read about 10 walkthroughs. I just don't know how to fix this.

If I can't go back to stock, fine, I did this to myself, but I do need the tablet to function in some manner. As of this moment, it boots to stock and I can do nothing.

So any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT:

Okay so I found a way to make a bootable SD CWM Card from here:
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/11/how-to-guide-bootable-cm7cm9cm10-sdcard-for-nook-tablet/

I needed the SW to flag my card as active. Apparently you can't do that in device manager like you can with HD's.

So now I have CM10 and Gapps back up and running. I made a backup of my CM10 install, I will attempt to reload it.
UPDATE: It refused to load my backup. No big deal.

EDIT:

So I figured, if I have to reload CM anyway might as well try out the TabletUI version from here:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2430068

It's running nicely. I am going to swap out launchers though.

So the last final question is this:

If I want to return to stock (or run stock from SD if possible), then I am going to have to reload the original B&N firmware for the touchscreen. Does anyone have this? Or is one of those once it's done, it's done things?

EDIT:

Drunk.

So I've got straight CM10 up and running because the tabletUI ROM wasnt working (i.e. no tablet UI) and after updating play store ate itself. So now with straight CM10 nightly from cyangomed.com is working great.

So where can I find the APK files installed on my Note 10.1 or Galaxy S3? I need the Whisper app. For some reason it's now showing as not compatible even though I had it installed on my NT tablet before.

Other than that all is peachy.

EDIT:

Just thought I'd post an update here. I was able to flash back to 2 touch from 10 touch in CM10. After that, I reloaded stock. But the download process kept crashing which meant i could download my books, but not apps. So I reflashed stock again. Everything worked. Updated to 1.4.3 and all is working great.

Now I will root and get my Play store apps reloaded. I never should have removed my rooted stock OS. CM10 was fun, but I kept missing all of the B&N functions. I had originally rooted using Albert's method. But his method installed some funky ass keyboard that I couldn't stand and I was unable to load other keyboards. So now I need to find a way to root AND keep the stock keyboard which I really like. Then I will be back to where I was. Rooted stock. I loved using my NT then. These last few months, I haven't enjoyed it all that much. Booting into a fully functional stock OS was like coming home. The reader is the best I ever used and there are some apps that I paid for that I truly missed. Throw in access to the Play store and I am a happy person. That's all I ever wanted. What ever made me decide to inflict this CM10 pain on myself I cannot recall.

Now I am not dogging on CM10 in anyway. I have CM7 running on my old Nook Color which I gave to my daughter. The Cyanogenmod guys are doing a stellar job. I like their ROM's and wish them all well. But for me and my needs, stock + root = happy me.

Thanks to all who have assisted me. :)

none of the links works. Only one works. And it gives too much ads.

Well, there is only one critical file to be gotten and the link does work, but as you say it is obfuscated behind many annoying ads. Sigh. One wishes people would find better file hosts.

Here is the required file: http://www.mediafire.com/file/07fbs2usj7pk0pp/bn_142_factory_recovery.zip

And if you want to go to 1.4.3, here is the update zip: http://www.mediafire.com/file/q81vy3qrncsbk7q/nooktablet_1_4_3_update.zip
(note: you cannot use the 1.4.3 update zip to repair a trashed NT; only the 1.4.2 zip contains the needed repart.img file)

Apologies for the resurrection of this thread. My Nook managed to grab an OTA update (I wasn't aware it could do that). All the links to the acclaim_update.zip file are not working and I cannot find my copy anywhere. Can someone send me a good URL or attach the file and send it to me? I'm trying to use this old Nook for my seven-year old to read Kindle books.

This is for the Nook Tablet 16Gig version only. Do not use with 8Gig version

    Introduction
Making a magic SDCard which will take you back to stock 1.4.0 is easy!

This method will allow you to restore 1.4.0 firmware onto your Nook Tablet. Personally, I think holding the buttons and halting the device boot 8 times in a row is a bit time consuming. So, here is how you make a "Magic SDCard".

    Instructions
Just follow these 4 easy steps to restore your device to 1.4.0.
    1. Download this file: http://devftp.xda-developers.com/files/AdamOutler/NookTablet/acclaim_update.zip (Do not change the file name. Make sure it is named "acclaim_update.zip" without quotes).
    2. Copy the file on a Micro SDCard.
    3. Insert the Micro SDCard into your Nook Tablet
    4. Turn on your Nook and observe a factory restoration.

    Conclusion
This will initiate Recovery Mode and flash the entire zip. acclaim_update.zip will restore your device to stock firmware and wipe all user data. I will be working on other methods and I believe it is possible to force the device to boot it's entire firmware from Micro SDCard.

    Troubleshooting
    "N" Button is inoperative
    solution:
    1. Press and hold the Power and "N" Button until the device reboots.
    2. Continue to hold the Power and "N" button until the device reboots 8 times. This will wipe data and restore the "N" button functionality

    SDCard method does not work
    solutions:
    1. Ensure you have a Nook Tablet, not a Nook Color (funny as it sounds, this is a big problem)
    2. redownload the acclaim_update.zip
    3. Use the Nook settings menu to format the sdcard
    4. Use a different SDCard

    Video walkthrough
This video will walk you through switching firmware versions, rooting, backing up, and several other techniques
    6
I added a "Troubleshooting" section to the first post.

    Troubleshooting
The sideloaded app "Homecatcher" has been reported to cause problems with the "N" button upon restoration of this device. Remove homecatcher from your device before using this recovery. If you have problems after restoring to 1.4.0, please unregister your device. Unregistering will clear out the user data which is attempting to remap your Nook button.

acclaim_update.zip NOOK 1.4.0 edit to my post of Nov. 5, 2018

The following should take you directly to the Wayback Machine archive of the NOOK 1.4.0 acclaim_update.zip file. (I am so glad that I bookmarked it!)

I tested the following 6 times on a Windows 7 PC before posting this. I will also test it again after this post is applied.

1.) Click on this link or copy it to another tab in your web browser: https://web.archive.org/web/20120120164254/https://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1402190

2.) Under Instructions Number 1: Click on the embedded link and it will download immediately.

    Here's Hoping!
    2
Part of the boot process checks the SD Card for this exact file (and checks the contents I assume). If it exists, it gets executed. Someone else has already confirmed this works, though we can't yet get it to work for any other firmware (ICS, etc).
    2
Just to be clear, this doesn't require root right?

    No. Root is not required.
